WAR or AoC ?

So I know everyone is going to have to pick one of these games after they come out because there guna dominate age of camalot, guild wars, eve,  worldofwarcraft, and coming from world of warcraft this game is nothing like it. i know this becuase i accually watched the video guide at the top of this forum so I know... but anyways WAR or AoC I need feedback

Wont decide until they both come out and have feedback from people who have actually played them. Besides I still have 6 months left on my EQII subscription.

From what i have read and watched, i will go with WAR.

I've always been a fan of the table top game so that probably plays a big part in my decision.

WAR is coming, are you prepared?

Try both and see which has the features I like the best.  I like AoC proposed features more but won't make a final decision till I can try out both finished products.

I think you would be better off posting this in the general foums because you would get a variety of different opinions. If you post here it will mostly be WAR fans telling you to get WAR.

But anyways, I'm going with WAR because I love PvP, nuff said. All depends what you like.

I'm going with WAR.  AoC really doesn't interest me.. we already have a raiding game, I prefer more structured PvP (aka not FFA or semi-FFA), and the whole "We're mature we have blood n' boobies!" bit seems like it will attract the least mature people who play these games.

The combat system does look interesting, but I don't really play these games for the fights.  I play UT for a fast-paced twitch experience, in MMOs I prefer combat to emphasize strategy more than reflexes.

Just my two cents.  Personally I think AoC will flop on the PC, but be huge on the 360.  Seems to cater more to console players than PC players.

I am torn at the moment. I would love to play both. I heard that they are overhauling that combat system in AoC. If that is true I wonder if it will be more tactical then slice and dice so to speak.

Hey I think I'll go to a Star Wars Forum and ask them whether they think I should buy the Collector's Edition of Star Trek: The Next Generation or the Collector's Edition of Star Wars?    Hmmmm, which do you think they'll recommend?

But in all seriousness, read up on them both and try them both.    And try other MMORPGs that are coming out too.   The wonderful thing about the current MMORPG market is that several different companies out there and we can pick the MMORPG that fits each of our playstyles and tastes.

Some people may despise WoW for finally opening MMORPGs to the mainstream but that means that there are more choices as companies try to make it in the post-WoW era.    Do your research and make up your own mind, don't let other people tell you what you should buy.

You'll find most people here have done their research and made their choice.

Warhammer, Of course. AoC looks to glitchy, it seems it is being released to early. Also I did not like the previous Funcom game, Anarchy Online. Along with that it does look like a great game, and if it does have a trial, I will have to try.

Does either AoC or WAR have any RPG aspect to it? They both look like they are going for the mass battle PVP style of game. To me Conan looks more like how I would imagine the Hyborian world looking than WAR looks like Warhammer. WAR just isn't dark or gritty enough. Are there any vids or pics for WAR that show it having the Warhammer feel and not just the table top game feel? Don't get me wrong I think they both will offer something new to the MMO gamer, feel that AoC is more immersing than WAR. Nothing to do with graphics mind you they both look good.

WAR will be way better than World of Warcraft. It seems to have much better graphics and I hope it will be nothing like WoW. World of Warcraft is just about 98% Quests, and everything is is what you want. Blizzard seems to be getting ahead of their old wrinkled sacks saying the WoW is the most popular MMO.

    WoW FTW!!! (Waiting on Warhammer)

Um, your post is very strange and I'm not sure how to answer it... First of all yes there will obviously be an RPG aspect to it. Then you ask if there are videos that show it having the Warhammer feel and not just the table top game feel. I don't get this question. The table top game is Warhammer... WAR is based of the lore which originated from the table top games. They are inter-connected. As for videos, to me all of them depict a Warhammer feel and look.

My friends heard about AoC first, so I did a little research and at that point I thought I would just stay at my current mmo.  About a month ago I heard more about WAR and I think I'm sold.

    • TR looked ok (my friend was in beta) and he said he would not play that game becuase there was not enough to do, so I am thinking I have to shy away from that one.
    • God and Heroes looks OK, plus I know one of the programmers but I have a personal ban on Sony MMO's right now so that one is out :(
    • The rest of games in develpoment has had no real effect on me, but then again maybe I'll have to do more research into those games.

So, to me, I'd have to say a PvP game made by Mythic, supported by the storyline of GW should be a great game.  The traits I look for in a good MMO are not exactly the way MMORPG.com does it's stats.  I instead use a rating system of 100.  I take the rating from MMORPG then:

    1. Multiply the fun by 40
    2. Multiply the service by 17
    3. Multiply the community by 16
    4. Multiple the preformance/lag by 10
    5. Multiply the roleplaying by 7
    6. Multiply the sound by 5
    7. Multiply the graphics by 5
    8. Add all these up, and now I have a game scale to 100

<The reason why there are some odd numbers there is becuase I dropped the Value rating, I never really understood it so I added some weight to more important features, to me>

This seems to fit me perfectly, and I think WAR will score the bestwith this weighting

thats simply why it cant get even near the wow population... good graphics = need better computers = less people play it..

people will go and buy a game if they can play it on there current computer, but the non-geeks will not buy a new computer just to play new games.. and why is it all about freeking graphics? the graphics whas even mutch better in the 90's than it is now.. i want the good old FMV games back.

WoW's graphics were out dated the day they decided on the graphics engine. It has a slightly better engine then the original EQ but their artists and animation guys really were top notch for how little they had to work with.

So far, from hearing interviews and seeing game footage one can estimate the graphical lad to be just moderate on an average computer for early 2008. This of course is with out the new lighting engine their putting in this weekend turned off and probably with the detail level turned down.

Again just like WoW, WAR's graphics engine will feel dated quickly compared to other games like AoC and next generation mmo's, but their art team is exeptional and can do a lot of detail / texture work with very little polygons. If you need an example pull up any of their many castle pics. You'll notice the castle is very very detailed and very beautiful but very ordinary if you strip away the texture.

The one place i can't estimate though is how it will slow down in large city sieges. Most of that though is actually server side and can be sped up over the life time of the game. Again look at WoW, EQ2  or even EVE as an example of how server lag can be rapidly improved.

First let me try both, then I'll choose.

I was really frustrated after reading a lot about Dark and Light and finally when I got to play it, it just sucked, so from that day on I chose only to devote for a game when I have already tried it for a couple of weeks, because there are games that suck, there are some games that are fun only for a couple of days/weeks and there are games that last for long, and those ones are the ones that I want to play.

To op what are you askign which will be the big hit ? or which will we play.

I try to play all mmos for a bit... however, WAR will triple AoC sub base off the bat and grow ar rates three times as high.

AS said by everyone with a bit of inside info TR is junk, G&H while ok is no way epic.  PoTBS (prirates of the burning sea) looks pretty good, its got my interest up. I personlly feel ill like WAr pvp more just for the fact that i want to pvp a lot.

    For now, seeing the features and screens and videos, will pick AoC;

It got more new things than war that seems is playing (like lotro or warcraft) with the license to take fans (there are lot of fans of warhammer around the world, no matching for conan fans). I dont want to stay playing the same again and again with different engine, marketing, think that the combat idea of conan is great, more interesting than the ever point and click, and, what I saw from war it remembers, a lot, to wow, so ... will wait, will test both. Hoping, at least, one of the two bring things to the right way that uo and old mmorpg started.

    WAR

    Why?

    1. The Warhammer world is more appealing to me than Conans.

    2. Mythic is in my opinion a far better outfit than Funcom (I beta and played Anarchy Online through the first month, it wasn't pretty)

    3. The game dynamics in WAR appeal to me more than AOCs.
