I been playing LOTRO now since January and haven't become bored yet. The quests are never ending and I don't even notice myself levelling because I'm so engrossed in completing quests and deeds LOL!!
But I can see how some people might find LOTRO boring- especially people that were weaned on WoW when they started playing MMO's. LOTRO is the complete opposite of WoW in many ways-mostly in the graphics department. The critters in LOTRO are real life animals and people and WoW 's are not. The world in LOTRO is like a pastel Monet painting and Azeroth is painted with bright, psychedelic colors.
The chars in LOTRO look like real life people. WoW's chars are over the top and look like WWF wrestlers and Hookers pretty much. LOTRO's armor and weaponry is understated cus of Lore rstrictions- WoW's armor and weaponry are noticeable and beautiful.
So I think people that want a neon world and wild looking monsters are gonna find LOTRO really boring cus they need more flashiness in a game. And some people need special effects- like what Mages usually offer- and LOTRO can't have Mages and thus there's no eye candy special effects in LOTRO cus the Devs can't put it in cus of the story.
Just try another game. And another...... till you find one that suits you:)

That is good advice. Thank you Lori
I used to play WOW so I can understand what you are saying. I think some of the feature were alot like WOW in some aspect that turned me off from LOTRO. Like I was saying before LOTRO is a good game and has a bright future in my opinion but I can also see why some people would be turned off from it. You make valid points though on your comparison between LOTRO and WOW. Thanks for the feedback and advice
LOTRO is only as boring as every other MMO out right now. More than likely, Id get bored with any of them after a few months. And, you cant say that LOTRO isnt original, because the LOTR lore is THE original fantasy lore. Pretty much every fantasy MMO has ripped something out of Middle Earth. Of course, you could say the game design in LOTRO isnt original, as they basically followed the WOW model of taking the what s already been done and giving it some polish.
yeah i totaly agree with you! I think Lotro is wery nice, i love tolkien's Middle Earth and i love Lotro's graphics, but i found the game boring. for me the funniest think was running around the Shire and other places and look on graphics, becouse there was nothink to do... only quests...
I played LOTRO in closed and open beta and ended up earning founder status for the game. I got my human burglar up to level 42 and then cancelled my account and am moving on to other MMO's. The reason I left was that it did get boring after a while. Yes it was new but not enough of it was intriguing to keep me in the game. I think LOTRO might have a good future to it but for now it is just afloat.
Oh...you "earned " your founder status. Not....that was done by paying for the lifetime sub before release. That renders the rest of your post invalid as a make believe fairy tale. Nice try liar.

LOL....smells like and alternate account. Congrats on your first post being a flame with a solid personal attack. Five months of tension just make you pop?
And as was stated a little bit earlier...All of these people that say LOTR is unoriginal cracks me up. JRR Tolkien evented the fantasy genre. Almost every aspect of your favorite fantasy game was born of his ideas. Elves, dwarves, orcs, hobbits, etc. did not exist before LOTR and D&D took it to the next level.
So if you are going to attack the game play for unoriginality all right, but attacking it because of unoriginal classes and character types, I don't think so.
I think you need to do some more reading. JRR tolking did not invent any of those things, except possible orcs. Elves have been around in various stories for centuries, same with dwarfs, same with short chubby little races (although he may have invented the name hobbit).
He most certainly did not invent the fantasy genre, just influenced quite a bit for our games and novels
While Turbine put out one hell of a polished product with LoTRO it doesn't feel much like how I would prefer an MMO set in Middle Earth. There was a game not too long ago for the xbox I think, maybe the ps2 as well, by EA. It involved playing one of 3 or 4 different characters that were knockoffs of some of the main characters from the book. You interacted with some of the book's stars, but you were set in a supporting cast type role. That's what LOTRO feels like to me. Granted it was great to see the shire and the like but there is little to LoTRO that makes my character feel heroic. This is also a problem with every other MMO out there.
So, I do not think that lotro is more boring in comparison, its just far more boring than a game set in middle earth should be. However, in comparison I think it is just as boring as the next game out there.

Once again. No Tolkien did not for all intents and purposes invent those characters, nor their traits. Those characters were around before, they have been around for centuries. Virtually every culture in the world has some lore regarding elves, dwarves, and little people. Tolkien wrote a really good story (most people think so, I found them a bit dry but thats besides the point).
You don't need to backpack through germany to hear the stories. But I bet you did read some stories from the brothers Grimm, and many, many, many other fairly tales all of which have elves, dwarves andlittle people.
Snow white and the 7 dwarves anyone, that story has been around for a long time, long before Disney and Tolkien. The elves by the brother Grimm is another.
The Germans were very big on elvish literature and their literature made it's way westwards to us and greatly influenced tolkien. He didn't have to go to Germany, don't even know if he did.
Saying that Tolkien invented these characters is just as bad as those people who say that WoW is the first game. He did not and it is not, but both may have catalyzed their areas.
The point was Tolkien took mythological creatures that he had known, had grown up with, had researched or read about, had told him either as fairy tales or fables or whatever and wrote a good story about them. He was probably a catalyst in the popularity of fantasy writing, but he certainly didn't start it. And I will concede he made up orcs, but he spun them as basically twisted elves, which he again most certainly did not make up. He did not invent any of those characters or their traits, but he did write a good story about them.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.
I found it very boring as well. It was basically wow in a different setting, with a bunch of foo foo gay elves. I was actually quite excited about it, and don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's a good game, but I've been there before, and done that before. There was nothing in the game that sets itself apart from wow, not to mention that as far as MMOs go it is just as shallow as wow.

Lol no not a alt account its called new user. But yes...5 months of reading BS did make me pop
Lifetime subscribers are founder status from beta. I remember that reduced monthly charges were also part of a plan..you had to pre order the game before release and enter that game registation number to be a "founder". We were allowed to hit level 15 and carry our open beta accounts into live. We got cloaks and rings as a perk for that along with the option for a lifetime sub/ reduced monthly fee.
Now they do offer lifetime accounts...they are not founder accounts nor do they get the cloaks and rings and its more expensive than the founder accounts.
Show me different.
PS...ITninja ...yes you are a liar. Prove it otherwise...where does it say you can earn it?
The game is being played within the confines of Tolkien Lore, so there isn't a lot of flexibility when it comes to recreating races or characters/classes, MOBs and Quest. Its a neat game, but still feels confining because there has to be continuity to the Tolkien Lore.

LotRO is a fine, polished game. It isnt for everyone, but for the people it IS designed for, it does an outstanding job.
I did get a good laugh from (or should I say, at) the poster who said the lore is boring. LOL, that cracked me up. And please dont even compare the Lord of the Rings to that cartoony WoW/Warhammer would-be 'world' which has about as much depth as a piece of paper.
As far as the races in LotRO, thats one of the reasons I like it. Spare me the frog-people and cat-people and whatever other races you want to try to act like are so 'creative'. The avatars look like people, not cartoon versions of people with arms so long their knuckles drag on the floor, and biceps bigger than their waists, LOL.
LotRO has a serious tone to it, and a realistic look. The landscape is beautiful, but its also realistic looking, it doesnt look like a kid on crack drew it with a bunch of crayolas and luminiscent paint.
I havent enjoyed a fantasy world this much since DAoC.
I too found it boring, only got to lvl 14. And it copied stuff from WoW. Didn't like the PvP either, Monsterplay, blah. And the quests, repetive. Ugh. Boring.
I played during the beta phase, and I reached level 34. I found it interesting, but very repetitive, and I found myself forcing myself to play. I enjoy the LotR a lot, and I thought it would get better after I reach a different level, or finished a quest. However, I was wrong! It got really boring, and I ended up stopping before the last beta phase was finished.
This game is probably the most similar to WoW that I've played, but it's a bit less interesting overall IMO.
Graphics are a personal thing and though LOTRO has picturesque backgrounds it seems a bit bland to me when playing the game. WoWs graphics aren't so nice, but it has a fun quality that I enjoy a lot.
Next we have the talent system vs the trait system. The trait system has some good qualities, but it's not really that different from WoWs talent system. The only difference is that it encourages players to go out and kill certain mobs repeatedly to get the traits. Some traits are given from doing quests which is OK. I prefer WoWs talent here as it's just something to give your class a little flavor.
Speaking of classes, LOTROs are pretty bland IMO. The reason for this is because it's limited by the lore. You can't be a Gandalf or a Strider because they were very rare types of characters. Whats left is mostly a lot of different flavors of melee classes. You will probably like this game if you like melee type classes. They are done decently well, but I've always found such classes bland in MMOs. WoW has not much in the way of restrictions in this regards. You can be a mage hurling fireballs about or play as warlock sucking the life out of people. It just has a lot more options and the melee classes are just as fun to play as.
As far as questing goes they are very similar.
Crafting I'd have to probably give LOTRO the edge. It's a bit more complex then WoWs crafting system. One thing I do miss about WoWs crafting is enchantments though. I know this is a kiddy type of thing, but I like to look at the weapons glow heh.
Anyway after playing EQ for 5 years and WoW for 2 years LOTRO just didn't hold my attention. It was too similiar and yet had less in way of classes. It's just not a very exciting game to play IMO.
If it was my first MMO experince would i probably stayed there for quite some time, but since it look and plays like most of the mmorpg's on the market is there nothing new for the vets
I think biggest gripe for me is that yet AGAIN another level based fantasy game. I love Lotr books and movies but cause gameplay is just normal lvl based like in others, getting bored with it.
Level based games make previous areas obsolute, gears get old fast, and same quest content mostly if you roll alt. Levels are nice way to show your progression but is it necessary to make so much hitpoint increases and skill that damage so much?? Cut those down by 80% and you can see that game seems less linear.
I know i will be playing Warhammer but hopefully i get to level by killing opponents more, but have to see is Mmo genre killing old time players by not inventing anything new.
LoTR would be the ultimate sandbox setting but they just went with the EQ model...... it would hurt their head too much to think of how to make a good sandbox game. Therefore the game is very boring because its sooooooooo linear. Its like reading a book and not living in Middle Earth. Skill based would have fit perfect in the setting but instead they invented these stupid classes so they could churn out another mediocre MMO.

I played beta, and i played the 10 day referral and let me say!
I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!
I currently play WoW, and although WoW can be very tedious, it has a lot of content such as raids and i like the armor tiers.
If WoW was never invented or as popular, I WOULD PLAY LOTRO!!!!
IMO, LOTRO is the second best MMORPG.

Yeah. It's boring for me. It is nothing special. It has no features, besides it's about lotr. All features already exist:
1. Many free updates. CoV/CoH
2. Primary Quest and Sidequests. Guild Wars
3. Titles. CoV/CoH
4. The rest. WoW/EQ (I write WoW/EQ because WoW stole 80 percent of the game from EQ)
5. Lotr-feeling.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111one
This game has one feature no other game has.....
Oh...you "earned " your founder status. Not....that was done by paying for the lifetime sub before release. That renders the rest of your post invalid as a make believe fairy tale. Nice try liar.
Let me guess. Read a few hater posts...make up a BS post based on what they said and release?
Try again
LOL....smells like and alternate account. Congrats on your first post being a flame with a solid personal attack. Five months of tension just make you pop?And as was stated a little bit earlier...All of these people that say LOTR is unoriginal cracks me up.

Elladan - ESO (AD)
Camring - SWTOR (Ebon Hawk)
Eol & Justinian - Rift (Faeblight)
Ceol and Duri - LotRO (Landroval)
Kili - WoW
Eol - Lineage 2
Camring - SWG
Justinian (Nimue), Camring - DAoC
ya lotro was kinda boring. never ending quests,.....
LOTRO was sooo boring. There was nothing new about it and I feel like i just wasted $50.

Played: Quite a few Mmos
Playing: Something
LoTR would be the ultimate sandbox setting but they just went with the EQ model...... it would hurt their head too much to think of how to make a good sandbox game. Therefore the game is very boring because its sooooooooo linear. Its like reading a book and not living in Middle Earth. Skill based would have fit perfect in the setting but instead they invented these stupid classes so they could churn out another mediocre MMO.

Even hobbit itself can be related to old english myths of hole-dwellers.
