What a great concept... Too bad it's vaporware
What deserves to be done, deserves to be "well" done...
theres a difference between throwing up a website and filling it with every great idea in the book and actually implementing those ideas into a commercially acceptable working product.
this has been around for some 7 odd years in one form or another promising the world and delivering absolutely nothing.. THATS how it can be vaporware.
here is your answer to your topic:
It could easyly be Vaporware. They just dont release the game
However i hope it will never come to that
Name a game that has all those features.
Name a game that has all those features.
There isn't one yet. That's the point.
It's not vaporware because it's still being developed
However, it absolutely bears many of the hallmarks that lead up to a project becoming vaporware.
Whether it ever releases is anyone's guess. They keep saying they're ready for beta but no beta is even planned yet. They haven't set or given a date. Since the last time Beta was announced, and cancelled.
Is it vaporware? Not yet.... but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it becomes vaporware once their sources of income dry up and they still don't have a playable game.
If it's ready for beta then start beta. Otherwise STFU about it. Really. They are their own worst enemies. Either you are ready for beta or you are not. Not this "well we could start beta today but..." crap.
Either go into beta or shut up about it and get it into BETA. Till then stop hyping a game that isn't even playable yet. The reason people get bent over this game is all of us would LOVE to see all these ideas made into reality. Really we would. But we're sick of being jerked around by this game. When it's in beta I'll believe it's close to a release. Otherwise it's 'just a game I'm keeping an eye on'. Nothing more. And it certainly isn't "going to be the greatest game evear!!!1111oneoneeleventyzillion1's." Not until it's in a state where people can actually play it and see if those features promised are actually in game, working properly and working as promised.
Till then it's just another MMO in development that has a bunch of potential.

I don't think you understand the complexity Darkfall entails.
This isn't just an MMORPG, it's an entire world. The game was designed piece by piece by the devs. By "piece by piece" I mean that every square inch has been drawn up by the developers. No other MMORPG has achieved detail anywhere close to this.
In World of Warcraft or any other target and fire MMO, it isn't very difficult to calculate and program physics for arrows and spells. Darkfall has taken the next step and has issued in real world physics requiring you to do the targeting yourself. Arrows and spells will no longer home in on the target. You wouldn't believe the difficulty in programming this alone. Not to mention the way buildings will collapse, the way ships will sink and various other objects being affected by players.
The game world is huge. Just huge. With a huge world comes a huge amount of monster ID's which will have excellent AI and will attempt to TAKE YOUR ITEMS FROM YOU. Each monster will have his own special abilities which also takes time to program.
Making cities in this game requires a specific set of code that syncs player's computers together so that people don't attempt to build buildings on top of buildings.
There are literally hundreds more aspects that are unique about this game that take immense time to program. Now take into account the fact that their team of developers is much, much less than Mythic's WAR, Blizzard's WoW, or FunCom's AoC.
7 years? Yeah, makes sense. But I'm just as faithful now as I was back in '03 when I first found out about the game and got excited about it. I'm glad that they aren't interested in making money, only with making a revolutionary MMO with excellent quality and interest to it's fanbase. I respect the people at Aventurine and wish them as much luck in the next coming months with their developer search so that they can finally get the game into beta and people will be amazed.
I'd just like to clarify that I didn't mean offense when I began stipulating the core concepts of the game. I don't know how actively you've been following DarkFall, and just wanted to be clear as to the amazing level of detail and content available in this game.

I'll believe it when I see it.
as quoted from Wikipedia:
"Vaporware is a software or hardware product which is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge, either with or without a protracted development cycle. The term implies unwarranted optimism, or sometimes even deception; that is, it may imply that the announcer knows that product development is in too early a stage to support responsible statements about its completion date, feature set, or even feasibility"
i still believe that this game almost comes close to that...especially after i read the lead dude say that they are already ready for beta, yet dodged the question as to when it will be or will it ever be...

Fair enough. Oh, and if you are interested in see'ing just how large and expansive this game really is going to be, warcry is your friend.

How could this be a vaporware? Here's a little clue. Any game that makes ridiculous, grandiose claims like the ones in that video and that's your first sign that's it's either vaporware or another Dark and Light in the making. You pratically expect the Devs to claim the game will cure world hunger.
And the hilarious thing is that just like Dark and Light, just like Vanguard, there are people swallowing the stupid hype with no proof, no evidence and nothing to back it up.
There's one born every minute.
Yea because thats the first time a product has ever possibly been exageratted. DnL was an underdeveloped game that was forced to release due to their investors. Since aventurine is mostly self-funded from other work they do they do not have the same problem.
Yea those vaporware trolls really need to show a little proof about it beign vaporware instead of just listening to the last guy and repeating.
What's also hilarious is yet another vaporware troll with the same old song. "Dark and light." "Vanguard" etc.
While I'll admit that the video did use cliche rhetoric (I could have written much better for them) it doesn't defeat the fact that the game is going to be released, there is plenty of proof to show that the game exists and that the game itself will speak for itself.
Just so you know, I'm going to make a thread dedicated to laughing at all the vaporware trolls when the official clan beta comes. It's going to be great.

hehe dont get mad at him yo he's one of those "WAR" fanbois although I do have some doubts about this title myself. but i do wish it would come out it is #1 on my list of course (for most hyped, etc)
If this game gets released (no vaporware claims here) it can be really good. That is if the devs. keep those promises. But i can see myself playing this game. Even though i'd get pissed that someone "fully looted" me.

Except the $27 million loan hanging over their heads. This game will come out and like many titles before it only 1/2 of its "features" will be in it at best. I want to hear your response on this one questionable... self funded? really?

Yay! More knee jerk reactionary prejudice! I love this type of logic.
Since there have been many MMO's before this game that are supposedly similar to this game, that means that this game is doomed to fail.
Cognitive Bias at it's finest.

I just saw this Thread pop up on the Recent Forum Activity and dropped by out of boredom. I had heard what things were like over here but the drama and delusions are even more than I could have imagined. As for rational excuse, entertainment value.
I freely admit that I am an avid follower of WAR. And it should be a telling thing when I find myself agreeing with posts made on these Forums by the more rabid followers of Age of Conan. These are people who have flamed the game I am following but agree with them when they can see this developer for what they are too.
From a visitor's POV, Atziluth's comments and points read as being far more rational and backed by facts than the ones arguing with him. I haven't seen any response regarding the issue of the sizable loan or the other little reality checks he brings up. He seems intent on arguing in the face of blind devotion, best of luck there but as I said, entertainment value.
You want to trust these people? You want to believe them? Go right ahead. I can't stop anyone from jumping off a cliff. I'll be betting that Atziluth will be making a thread of his own regarding this game.
How could you make another thread about this topic?
We've all posted why we believe its vaporware, or why we don't agree about a half a dozen times before.....
What we need are new topics to discuss I think.

Any one that has a brain would take out that loan when their close to opening up the game. Still have you played the game? No so please stop spouting ridiculous illogical statements.
For most of their development they were self-funded through their other jobs they did.
It does have recent obligations but its different between the other games because(as they have stated) the game is actually devleoped for beta while others were not.
Those games were obligated pretty much from the start while DF was recent. Even then their not technically obligated to release because they could very well pay it through doing other jobs.
