I am in the beta as well and I gotta agree with the OP. This game is nothign all that special. It has an NGE combat system, where not all your shots register, let alone hit, your target and it is in my opinion not quite ready for release. If they say this game will be coming out in and around fall thats a little optimistic (although that is based on other game mechanics I don't agree with as well).
If they fixed the shots not registering and improved the flow of combat then I'll sub this game post-haste, but if they plan to release this game with those combat flaws this game will flop like vanguard and be F2P just as quickly.
NCSoft isnt a bootleg MMO company. The only F2P they have is dungeon runners and its always been F2P. Basically, this game will never go F2P. I would be extremely surprised if it did. Shit, I would be less surprised if they just killed it if it was doing that badly.
Incorrect, GuildWars is NCSoft as well and TR seems to look as if it's using the same engine as well as system model for design - from what I've seen in videos, reminds me a lot of GW in those respects.
I could see it going the GW direction, and to be brutally honest I think doing so would probably be the best bet for game.
This game is not like guild wars at all. Guild Wars is highly instanced. You can never go solo in Guild Wars and run into other players while out questing, only in towns etc. And if you want to then you have to group up.
TR is also instanced but in a much different way. It has a number of instances per 'map' or continent or whatever, which can be switched between at will at a transporter. Also, there can be many many people in the same area hunting, questing, hanging out, grouping or soloing all in the same instance. A made up example would be a continent called "the forest" when you first load in you would choose between forest 1-5, but any number of other players can also choose the same one without having to be in a group etc. Only if you are going into an actual instanced quest location will you have to be grouped to play with other people.
This game is vastly different from Guild Wars and to make such a comparison is to wildly underestimate and misdiagnose the gameplay and design of this game. I have found that this game can be quite fun, even though I am not a big fan of shooter type games. It is certainly a welcome change from all of the fantasy games that pervade the mmo world. TR has a great deal of potential and will find its own niche of players who are more than willing to pay to play. This game will not be a flop.
Well people saying a game will be a flop before it goes retail is not new !!! I think you could find some post about the WoW hater while WoW was in beta saying the same thing..... ( i hope they edited their post by now lol ) !!!
And for me , a game isn't succesfull by is numbers of subscriber or by being F2p or P2P ...
I just need to enjoy it when i play !!!!!!
Right now i enjoy TR and using the /bug option is pretty fun!!! Never played without seeing a GM_admin while testing it so far and thats a good new for me !!!
If you want another WoW , well just go pick the game and play it !!!
And F2P is'nt a bad thing , it's probably the future of mmo !!! You child will look at you in disbelief when you will tell them story " Well when i was young we were paying 14,95$ / month " imagine downloading with your 2400 b. modem not long ago !!!
By the way , TR won't go F2P before a long time !!!
F2P is growing in popularity.... but thats a discussion that's going on in another thread atm.....
"growing in popularity"????? What are you talking about? name other western games that have switched from a subscription system to an item shop system?
The only area where F2P item shop system is growing is in the Asian market and that's a cultural thing that just doesn't work in the west and never will IMO.
Since its NCsoft it probably wont go F2P, but it will mimic Auto Assault... It is a pity.
HAHA you hit the nail on the head man. Auto Assault 2.0 is exactly what TR is from a popularity perspective. Anyone who's played the beta enough can see this is easily going to be the case. Some people are going to buy it just because it's new or because it's sci-fi, but you won't see much past the first free month.

Well I have been in beta for 6 months and I disagree with you - so obviously you are over generalizing there just a tad.
Will everyone like the game - hell no. Name one game that everyone likes though.

Lol, keep deluding yourself. The multiplier XP system ENCOURAGES grinding if anything.
Won't be a F2P game but it sure as heck will "vangaurd" on launch. It just wasn't fun and I don't mind grinder games. It just doesn't change up the scenery enough/armor//weapons/abilities or the mobs enough to keep me aiming for that next level. If you like it, more power to you. However I think most people are just trying to justify the time they spent playing it so far because nothing new is coming out. Remember that what you're doing is always the coolest thing out there and any other opinion is wrong.
I doubt TR will go F2P. More likely, it'll go the AA route if it doesn't meet NCSoft's subscription standards (i.e. make a profit). That is they'll announce they've written off the game in the first or second quarterly post-release and about a year later, they'd fully pull the plug on the game. If TR fails like AA did (and I can't say whether I believe that's reasonable), then I think an 18 month lifetime is a reasonable guess. But I doubt it'll go free since the servers and cost structure probably aren't set up for it like Dungeon Runners or even Guild Wars.
That's about the way I see it, also. And after playing the beta, just from a gameplay standpoint, I'd say it would be very reasonable to suspect TR could go the AA route.

TR has -maybe- nicest gfx i have seen.
its under NDA though so aren't we unable to give our opinions on the game w/o breaking it?
die.
