Sparkle & Fade (another Auto Assault bomb)

SynPandaSynPanda Member UncommonPosts: 9

sadly after playing the beta, its clearly evident its gonna be another NCSoft bomb like auto assault..

I mean the games OK, but not at all worth paying a monthy fee for..

it'll be a big then bomb game, by this time next year itll be on 1 server and you'll find the game on clearence at walmart or target for $9

the interface is to complex for a MMORPG & the game feels like a sloppy Quake Wars...

or for that matter, feels like a Star Wars Galaxy clone, but it doesnt have the cool icon characters of the SW world so it looses...

on the good side, hopefully this will be the straw to breaks NCSoft to do what sony did & offer a package of MMO's for 1 price...

this, auto/lineage/city ofs all for $25 bucks, THAT would be worth a package deal...

I'm going to bite here and split some straws with your opinion here.

    1) If you thing Tabula Rasa's interface is TOO complex for an MMO you obviously have no idea what simple actually is. You want complicated play EvE online or Anarchy Online. Try those games where the learning curve is days if not months before you feel comfortable with the interface. This game's interface is extremely simplified, not to the level of WoW but close, for an MMO.

    2) Auto Assault had the servers shut down last month. Guess you're behind the times.

Sure thing. This game worth no monthy fee, when it comes out with it looks like I'll be pass on this game.

Also early release makes it even worther.

I honestly though that the interface in Anarchy and EVE wasn't all that bad. Anarchy took me a little longer then eve to work it out, but eve's tutorial was good enough to adjust to the interface rather quickly. What i'm trying to get at is the learning curve for those two examples isn't as steep as you claim.

     Points to JT's Xfire listing..

This week: TR beta 2 hours

Lifetime: Vangaurd Saga of heros 168 hours.

      Nuff said?

Not to overly point fingers but if you like VG a game 80% of its players tried and dropped and if  TR if it follows in the same vain, it is very unlikely to be considered a "great game" by any but a very very very small minority.

If I have my facts straight its almost entirely instanced, and its not a real fps.  If these are true it will very likely become f2p pretty quickly.  There is no point in lame combat when its instanced.

  • _Shadowmage_Shadowmage Member Posts: 1,459

Its not a FPS - it has never claimed to be a FPS.

Personally - I have been in beta for 6 months and I would pay a monthly fee to play this game.

That said - I dont expect everyone to like every game - so some people will like the game, and some wont.

And since you seem to be Psychic - what are the lotto numbers for tonight?

ive played anarchy and it had the same life Auto & this had with me & the family, zilch!

we're huge CoH/V fans, true, a lil learning curve but still nice & simple-ish..

been doing this for years, since Sierra's (yes they owned it) The Realm was in beta...

seens tons come & go & tend to know what makes those that last, just that-last!

this will go big then fade fast, sci fi isnt all that big a pull... Like i said before, compare this to closely to Galaxies.. Good premise but doesnt have the draw...

Tabula Rasa is a good game. Yes.

I have been in CB and all the way to now, pre order beta which i got it free. BUT, <--- aware of the caps, Tabula Rasa is on for a too early release. Why?

    1. Client is way too buggy. Even on a Windows XP with 2GB DDR2 + 6800 GTS, I face crash that caused by Python scripting as well as looping and quite a number of technical glitches.

    2. Gameplay isn't polished. Config sometimes did not save as configured... etc..

    3. Game Engine will cause some lost in potential players. Just like Auto Assault. High requirements to play the game and even the lowest settings, you still need at least 1.5GB for smooth gameplay. 1GB will cause your HDD to spin up and down for virtual memory.

I have the feeling of Tabula Rasa is about to fall on the same death train with Auto Assault. And i hope NCSOFT isnt the one to be blamed for the early release.

All canceled. Waiting on Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning.

maybe i should have elaborated the 1st time so my appologies...

its a sparkle n fade game..

its NOT that its bad... I mean i did like the beta but to equate this out for a monthly fee, no-way...

it lacks the substance to linger...

place it on a F2P (free to play) or a set like i said Sony did on their Station Pack then you have something that MAY hold its own..

but the HYPE out there is OVERLY done on this game...

it truely lacks the greatness we've come to enjoy from WoW, CoH, GW, EQ2, and oh-so-few others...

    AND!!!!!

with more Free MMORPGs coming to light, and of enjoyable (not great, not graphicly magnificant, but just play fun) quality such as Archlord, Torque, Albatross, etc) its got a rough fight to try and attempt to hold ground....

  • NoanNoan Member Posts: 97

Sure thing. This game lacks a lot of things. It was hard for me to believe this game has monthy fee. Yeah, game looks nice, good engine even it lags on almost every PC but good idea with lack of content and other many things. Sadly but feels like good game idea died again.

I only just got my first taste of TR last nite for a couple of hours.  Well, this is certainly not going to be "The Next Big Thing" in MMO gaming.  As many have said, it's a nice start and the sci-fi is most welcome.  I disagree (what little I've seen so far) with the comparison to AA.  I'm one of those who LOVED Auto Assault, from closed beta thru to the end.

TR doesn't lag, crash or burn yet at all on my machine.  Runs smooth as silk.  So did AA.  Granted, my rig is fairly strong, but I've had no problems with any MMO out there (including LotRO) on highest graphical settings as far as performance goes.  DuoCore, NX8800GTX, 2 gigs ram, X-Fi.  No problems.

The interface takes a little getting used to (a half hour or so), and I don't like not being able to look around when the mission log is open, but that's not a major complaint (and I'm probably missing a "mode" or something).  The chat system reminded me that Garriot's first game didn't have a really good (i.e., convenient) chat system either.  Maybe it's just me, but I always felt that SWG and EVE had the easiest chat interfaces (I've played lots of MMOs but, I apologize, I never played WoW or EQ and can make no comparisons with those...well, EQ1 for about 45 minutes before I removed it from my machine).  TR's isn't quite as basic (ly useless) as UO's is, and I may need to play with it a bit to get it working right/comfortably.  It may also be because it does what AA's did (the one thing I HATED about AA) and that is fade-out.  I hate fade-out chat windows.  Yes, they take up valuable real-estate, but if they're not there, I'm always looking for them and it distracts me.  I like the idea that, like AO, you can add/subtract channels from the chat windows.

Another negative:  The website SUCKS!  And can somebody clue me in on where the official TR forums are?  I can find fansites, but where's the official forum?

All in all, I'm gonna play thru the beta and at least my free month of release-play before deciding whether or not to subscribe.  I REALLY miss not having any avatar-based sci-fi.  I love EVE, and will continue to play that one.  AO got very frustrating as I got higher because you needed, absolutely, to hit that fantasy-based area (Shadowlands) almost exclusively as you got higher level.  No wonder so many folks in that game get to lvl 60 (end of TotW) and roll a new toon.  With no other sci-fi within lightyears of now, TR will have to do, or I'll just keep going on EVE and wait to see if maybe Star Gate Worlds will amount to anything.  (STO will have the Evil Logo on it so it won't go on my machine, unfortunately.)

Point all you want.  I'm in 6 different betas atm, so I don't have that much time for each.  Also, the fact that I don't want to put too much time into TR until release.  I've already preorder my copy.  One other thing, I don't always have Xfire running because I have it set not to load up with Windows.  Oh and Xfire just recently supported tracking TR beta.  As for VG, I quit playing VG because I'm sick of the fantasy genre games.  The game ran fine on my system.  Take a look at my full history, you'll notice I've been jumping around to a lot of games lately because I'm pretty much bored with everything else out there.

I had some very high hopes for this game, and it's been pretty disheartening hearing the feedback from beta testers. I'll still reserve the bulk of my judgment until it releases, but October seems way too early at this point.

For those who have played the game, what can they fix or improve? Is October too early for release? How much time do you think it would take to improve the game?

All of your questions have been answered in detail in many of the posts in this forum. No need to rehash.

Well for this 2 week cycle they have taken the higher areas of the game offline so the people testing can focus on the starting areas and report bugs.

I assume in that 2 weeks they will be adding additional content to the higher level areas.

In 2 weeks when they release the next patch I expect we will swap over to testing the higher level areas whilst they spend two weeks fixing the bugs reported in the lower areas.

THen who knows? I guess they spend the next two weeks fixing the bugs in the higher level areas before they put it out to open beta for 2 weeks.

But thats all just speculation as they havent said yet.

IMO the starting areas are great. I see improvements added - features, graphics, updates to U.I with every patch. If they can make the higher level areas as polished as the starting area, add more missions the game should be fine.

There are currently plenty of missions to take you through to level 30. SO those areas are what we are testing now.

Its the higher level areas for play beyond 30 that are short on content - thus forcing people to grind by killing stuff to level. Also some of the logos for high level skills arent in game yet making it impossible to test those skills.

  • FrittisonFrittison Member UncommonPosts: 90

    _Shadowmage:

Yup, I agree with ya bro (Catalyst here). The lack of really giving us 30-50 content to help polish is really hurting them. That one week of having Ashen Desert open to test was really crappy on their part. The tier 4 trees need to be ironed out ASAP. I cannot believe they haven't started working on those yet (balance wise). All this focus on the starting areas 1-25 is just silly considering as of right now there hasn't been an iota of focus on 30-50 content in the game.

Oh, didn't know that, thanks for the info.

It still doesen't change the fact that people were going all gloom and doom before it was lifted.

IMO the starting areas are great...

Isn't there one SINGLE starting area that is instanced?

I would pay a monthly fee to play this game.

Yes, I think you would. But what would you do?

Make an alternate character and re-play the EXACT same content you just did?

  • RavanosRavanos Member Posts: 897

I agree with the original poster and I was VERY hyped about TR. It was a game i thought i would be very fun action oriented game. What i found was basically another typical MMO though instead of spamming skills you just hold down the mouse key. Heck you need less skill in this game than even in WoW (and thats saying alot) ... I don't even think i died once to be honest.

thing is this was supposed to be an "action oriented rpg", i guess by action they mean that you can tap A and D while firing just because you want to do something while combat is going on because your bored to death.

it doesnt even feel like a war, sure bane come down in dropships sometimes ... but its always in the same place. i was expecting bombs to go off near me and constantly dying if i was playing stupid. At the time i played i could run into a pack of bane and take most of them out with a shotgun blast or two.

I'm really disappointed it doesnt have more twitch based elements, the sticky targetting is crap i mean  how hard is it for some of you to hold a cursor on the enemy? do you suck that bad at games?

The OP is right this game will have good subscriptions at the beginning because of the newness of it. but after 6 months like someone said they will merge the servers and the game will die soon.
