The Best MMORPG You have Played And Why

RavkeenRavkeen Member UncommonPosts: 310

Everyone know there is not a best MMO because everyone have there on views of a MMO. But of the top ten that I have posted which one is the best to you and why. No real long essays just something simple and sweet. Like my best MMO is Dark Age of Camelot reason why is because of the RVR system. Also the community  is very helpful some of the times.

bleh sorry my all time fav wasnt on the list ...

    pre cu swg ...

made millions and learned ( i mean really learned not just insert item a with item b to get perfect item c) how to craft.

did not fire a single shot with a weapon in 1.5 years on that  one toon yet was accomplished and for a little while even a tad bit famous for cheap triple layer or stun partial suits of comp.

I could do ANYTHING i wanted ANYWHERE i wanted in the game no limits , no paths to follow did not do a single quest , kill a single quest mob ( i hired people to do all that vulgar killing)  , and shock and surprise when i combined 2 of teh exact same materials to make something it could ( and often would) come out different than the one before.

    that was a game ...

    man that was a game.

    dammit .

AC1, though it's not on the list, so will go with my second choice - UO, pre tram.

FFA with real risk reward (item looting). The whole game was one big rush after the next - loved it!

    Dark age of camelot:

Best non-open pvp, best lore, best classes, good pve, best spell effects.

K, this thread has lost all credibility, someone voted for LOTR.

Seriously though, UO and SWG had no limits on what you could do, which made them the best.

I picked EQII from the list because it's one of the most fun and deep games out there.

But, Pre CU SWG was with out a doubt the best ever! I had several accounts, one for my architect which I made a killing on, one for my wookiee rifleman, and one for a guy to just do anything with. Man I mis those days, even if my credit card bill is easier to handle now.

Mine was EnB. Simple, fun, great crafting system. It did lack content though for hardcore gamers. And no GNOMES!!!!

Planetside when it first came out and had a good, fresh playerbase.

I picked EQ2 because its my main MMO ATM. Played CoX for 18 month and basicly in that time i consider that i "beat" the game.

But IMO EQ1 was the best, i wasted 100s of hours (days/months) of my life on EQ1 from 1999 - 2005 but its not on your list .

    Mine ins't on the list.

SWG, before the awfulness, was my all time favorite MMO.  The sheer amount of various stuff you could do in that game was insane.  I haven't seen an MMO of similar scope since.  Nor have I encountered an MMO, or any video game for that matter, which captured my attention like SWG did.

    SWG's Huge Pros:

-Great Character Customization options both in creation and in the variety of in game clothing available.

    -Trememdous RP potential

-Static Player cities and player housing

    -Space (JTL)

    -Player Run Economy

    -Character Skill Tree system

    -Complex Crafting

-Decent Combat (CU and Pre-CU combat was decent,  NGE combat was simply an abortion)

-The sheer size of the game world.; vast expanses of land on various planets.  (Granted a lot of it lacked content, but the sheer scope of the game universe was impressive)

-Community / Social  (At its prime SWG had a pretty great community)

-Its Star Wars and its sci-fi

*On the poll I voted for EQ II simply because of the avialble choices it is the MMO which I dislike the least.

  • lordsn0wlordsn0w Member Posts: 99

DAoC , It was my first MMO and after 6 years i have not found one that compares. Reasons being the community pre ToA, RvR i still remember my first bg  damn what a rush i got from it, the classes were fun aswell the realms ( 2 of 3 anyways, couldnt stand the damn hib land = ) were cool.

"Its Star Wars and its sci-fi"

Actually, Lucas invented a wholly new genre: "Science Fantasy."  Swords and Sorcerers set in a space.

Never played SWG, but my favorite games were X-Wing (reminded me of my all-time favorite game, Wing Commander) and Tie Fighter.

Sure wish somone would update Wing Commander and make that an MMO.  :)

P.S. My favorite MMO is Guild Wars because of the awesome amount of PvE content they've added and the hero system.  Pre travel power nerf and ED, I would have said City of Heroes but - like the CU and NGE in SWG (so I've heard) - Cryptic nerfed City of Heroes to hell.  I'll never forgive them for it.

Sorry, just had to correct you. Lucas did NOT invent the Science Fantasy genre. It had been around for at least 25 years prior to Star Wars, probably longer.

My two favorite were not on your list (SWG pre-nge, and World War II Online). So I voted for LOTRO, and I've played a lot of the games on that list.

LOTRO gives me all the good feelings of EQ1 without all the crappy feelings of EQ1. I never feel as though I'm grinding away, and the story lines are the best I've read in an MMO.  It is only a few months old, but it has a solid foundation to build on. Also it looks and runs well on my heavily modified P4 2.8ghz PC.
