The Star Wars Galaxies official site has been updated with an article describing the collectable item system that will arrive in-game with Chapter 7.
Something sparkling in the lush grass of Endor catches your eye. As you retrieve it, you realize that what you just picked up is quite a valuable discovery! Collectors of all levels and professions can earn a variety of rewards in Chapter 7 when they find all the pieces of many different collections scattered across the galaxy.
Starting Your Collection
Collectors are seeking new treasures that can be found on all planets in the galaxy. These objects are recent, prized discoveries, so existing items and enemies you have slain before Chapter 7 will not count toward completing a collection.
A collection begins when you come across a distinctive item, either in the environment around you or as loot dropped by a defeated creature. There are also treasure-seeking NPCs in certain parts of the galaxy that might be looking for someone to track down the particular valuables they're looking for.

"A Beast Master might even learn a new trick to show their pet, such as teaching the beast to dance and entertain! " We could already do that as CH's!
I like the system of searching for the bits and pieces to make stuff, but still not enough to make me come back. (no I'm not a hater ex-player, got over that a long time ago). There's just still not enough left of the old system to bring me back.
Lol, I know what you mean. I still get the station email and I laugh every time they come out with something new, 9 out of 10 times its something from pre-nge. I do jump back in to see what’s going on but it is no longer a game for me.
'COLLECTABLE COLLECTABLES'? Are they serious? Is that what they officially went with? 'REDUNDANT REDUNDANCY'-much?
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
Oh no,
SOE has made another addition to SWG just to upset the MMORPG.com community, again. How dare they try to improve thier game instead of making an regular apology for upsetting so many former players. How dare they continue to fix a game that is the center of such dread and scorn.
Been having fun without ya' guys. It looks like this addition has a lot of promise even if its not a new idea or ground breaking for MMO's. Makes me glad I got all those profession badges when I did.

pokewars! feel free to drink the koolaid at any time...
OMG that's funny!
It took them 6 months to rip off EQ2's lame collections quest system and make 4 10 million HP "Great Foozle" mobs?
The Dev team couldn't find an idea with a roadmap. And they are about as good at "covering" other MMO's ideas as this band is at covering Van Halen:

Who knows what evil lurks in the heart of SOE?

The original CH tricks are already part of Beast Master. Although it depends on what they consider to be "dance and entertain", Pets could never dance with CH.
Lmao pets dancing is not an improvement or a game upgrade its just flat out stupid and retarded. As for beast master its a sad joke in comparison to CH. Creature Handler was a REAL proffession as beast master is just a side skill or a poorly done noob dev version of it. Creature handlers never had lame #ss incubators and rancors with pink horns and blue skin im surprised they dont have mounts with yellow skin and black stripes called pikacho's yet lol. How this pos is still in existence is the real question

I think any content for this game is good. They finally finished the professions expertise systems and are getting down to content. Seems like they are hearing their community and adding as much old stuff back into the game as possible without being a rollback. Ive played a lot of games and this one imo is 3 mmo's in one. Space,Ground Combat and Crafting are all very different systems from one another. But unlike other MMo's its an adult experience and if your not into reading the forums then you miss out on alot as their are not a loit of missions that take you to area's. This collections systems is one of the better things i liked about EQ2 and LOTRO. So rock on SOE you'll have my Station pass for a looong time.
Profession expertise in SWG sucks... It's nothing like what was.
The greatest game ever made is nowhere in evidence.
I have to agree the old profession system was much better, actually the oldest skill profession set up before CU was the best. I liked being able to dance alittle, use carbines alittle, be a scout alittle , you get the picture. The new professions are sadly so basic because the devs decided they had to be like every other game out there and pigeon hole us into one skill set. However, with that said I did wind up after 2 years of searching for a new MMO back in SWG. I told myself when I left after the NGE destroyed the game that I would never go back. But, I got so tired of the other so called "awesome" mmo's out there that I wound up back in a galaxy far far away. Some people might not understand but I never felt such love for a game as I do for SWG even in it's crippled state. I agree with everyone that the game lacks sooo much that's a given, but it still has so many other things that I absolutely love and missed playing WOW, EVE, LOTRO, and countless other MMO's. The biggest things I missed were character customization, I was sick to death of looking like every other 10th person that walked by, every other person in some games. Clothes, agian sick of looking like every other person, especially in WOW, where if you aren't wearing the profession armor you can't handle the oh so much fun RAIDS. Housing, yes LOTRO is now adding housing but again they lack customization, clothes, and other things like crafting that doesn't bore the person to tears. I also missed decorating said houses, I have a blast creating objects for homes or merchant shops out of items that aren't really supposed to be used for what I use them for. Case in point, my tailor shop has a realistic sewing/tailoring area including a sewing machine I made out of various parts from shipwright parts to medical stims. It's so much more fun and creative and I"ve yet to see this in any other game.
Okay, well I'm rambling and I don't mean to. I basically wanted to say while I agree the game has changed and for the worse, but for some of us we don't feel at home anywhere else. So when the devs add new content like this it's exciting for us, after all some of us have been here since beta, so adding new collection items is something that makes us drool, I'm hoping that some items are things that are deco items , not just badges...sadly there aren't many players to examine badges on each other. I still damn the SOE idiots that destroyed the original game I loved, but after 2 years I've made my peace and I'm back and enjoying the game the best I can, the community that is left are still the best people around.
Guess you like playing with yourself...wait that didn't come out right....Guess you like to play with yourself alone...still not right...You know what I mean, get your minds out of the gutter. LOL
It's not meant to be a game upgrade, it's meant to be something fun for those interested in getting it. Naturally it's not going to be for everyone but content is optional, those that don't want that particular item don't need to worry about it.The original CH tricks are already part of Beast Master. Although it depends on what they consider to be "dance and entertain", Pets could never dance with CH.
As for Creature Handler being superior to Beast Master, I beg to differ. I was a CH pre-nge and I'm a Beast Master now. Beast Master is much more engaging and indept the Creature Handler was. A pets colour relates to its specialisation, a hotter coloured pet (redish colours) is more focused on damage while colder coloured pets (blue, greens) is more focused on armour.

LOL,
Actually, I have guild members returning, calling me on the phone to get on. Even my wife has jumped back in more than usual. So, I have to say that I am not "playing" with just my self.
ALSO...I don't care if its ground-breaking NEW crap, just wanna see stuff thats fun and will and add to the game. IN FACT I wish they would copy other games more than they have, ya know, SUCCESSFUL games.

That’s not true, All pets could be taught to do at lest 2 dances Pre-cu.

Probably makes their New Target Audience happy ... as for the hundreds of thousands of people who bought the original game that they drove away, not so much. Not something that would raise my interest in returning by any measurable amount.
Turn on the brite lite! Since Jules Torres was relocated the game is getting back to pre NGE & it is getting better. I think it is obvious what the problem was. But the ideas were suggested by the community. And badges were always just a lame text in your bio aka pad. But now its a mini game the way it should have been. It seems to me that a designer finally accomplished his goal to finish what was proposed 5 years ago in closed beta for the badges. Seems to me that that a certain designer waited for all the pricks to get relocated. To me its the sith concept of waiting in the shadows until the fools bring their kingdom down and new leadership is asked for. Now if we could just get back that skill system-lol
All jkn aside- its a step for the people that do play.
Heh, Blixtev proably fits that discription.

Nope, those were called tricks and as I mentioned, these are already part of Beast Master
From a Chilastra point of view, while it's not at its population peak, I can safetly say there's no shortage of people on the server. The other night, a Sunday night, we had a 3 hour PvP battle involving over 120 people - the type of battle that hasn't been seen since pre-nge.
Looks to me like they are actually starting to copy (good) stuff from one of their own games, as in EQ2 instead of redoing everything from scratch to make a WoW-clone.
*shrugs*
It's a start. Although what I rrrreally want is new content. I mean big style, not just a quest line here, a dungeon there.
And about beastmastery - it's only fun and engaging if you have 3 accounts and all professions or are in a big guild. Otherwise you are too dependent on getting the stuff for in depth beastmastery. Nothing wrong in that, that is how interaction in a MMO should be, but if if there aren't any players engaged in that..... And no, I didn't use the forums, if the game mechanis work , it should work ingame and not by posting and praying.
