I fell through a mountain. I was able to get back by using my Planar Gateway spell. I'm going to try to see if I can reproduce it and report it.

Knivesonly your not the only one who thinks it's ugly there are lots of others. just wandering why you even bothered to read this thread though? personaly i think the graphics are gorgeous and i still havent seen anything better!

Hmm i wonder if there is a best screenshots thread anywhere comparing all games? i'm just suprised that of all the people that say how bad the graphics are, when i say i have not seen better you would think they would show some?

Vanguard is ugly like hell and it doesn't convey a sense of atmosphere and drama.

Now take a look at some of the Guild Wars screenshots (yes they are in-game screenshots not wallpapers).  I just randomly grab a bunch.  As you look at them, consider the setting and the dramatic atmosphere it conveys.  Then you go back to Vanguard and ask yourself if they convey the same dramatic atmosphere.

They convey a much more dramatic scenery and setting.  Even my crappy 3-year-old notebook from my workplace plays it decently.

There are many other games that whooped Vanguard in graphics, dramatic scenery and atmosphere.  You can tell Vanguard's artists and designers are kinda lazy with the artwork.  I am sure Vanguard's engine is capable of much more but it just looked like they just grab a bunch of 'skins' and just wrap it around some object and declared it done.  I like it in GW where the object is not just skinned reasonably well but it blends in with the entire scenery.  Other games which comes to mind are COH, LOTR and I am sure there are plenty of others.

There is a different between great graphics and a great engine.  Vanguard might have a great engine (and a monstrous requirement) but the artwork/graphics in game is just shoddy in many many places.  Some races are still missing tails.  There are no helmets.  While it may not matter to many people but for those trying to immerse themselves in the game, it stands out like sore thumb.

First of all friend your links dont work :( second you are talking from the perspective that dont just look at the screenshots log in and feel the dramatic effects of them. VG is not meant to be dramatic for one. Also when i log into Vanguard i get that same feeling that maybe you get from gw. secondly while parts of lotro look great, parts of Vg look better also. and i have actualy played lorto friend and on a whole there is not really much of a difference in graphics is there? i mean we can all try to put our opinion across but when you can not see much of a difference then you have to just simply be honest!

though i do thank you for responding the way you did. as i really do mean it when i say " if i find a game better then ill play it" but still i am yet to be shown. Though when i get to see your pics you may be right and i might change my mind. I will actualy go and take a look at GW now. can you download a free trial at all btw?

This statement is an oxymoron as all SS's of Guild Wars are Wall papers. I say this because all of the crap you see that looks so nice cannot be explored. You can't climb that gorgeous mountain, you can't swim in that beautiful ocean, hell you can't even jump! Guild Wars is not an MMO so please take your gripes about REAL MMO's someplace else until such a time as you can point us to one that is better.

Now, on topic, I think the graphics in Vanguard are pretty decent. Well, at least when they work. I just reinstalled last night out of boredom with current games, and it seems that since update #2 it plays worse for me. I have an 8800 gtx and I know that the 8800's have problems with the game so I'll just chock it up to that. My only real complaint with the graphics is the vacant look in characters eyes. They don't make ANY facial expressions...EVER. Other than that I think the game is gorgeous.

I thought we are discussing screenshots and graphics OR are you switching the topic to the size of the world, ability to jump and whether you can explore every single thing you see?

If you do follow the links I gave you, you would have noticed that it IS the screenshot section.  There is also another section which showed wallpapers.  It just goes to show GW's ingame dramatic settings is so good that it actually looks like wallpapers lol.

Also, I am not here to debate which game is better O whether GW is an mmorpg.  I am here in this thread to discuss vg graphics and its comparison to other games.  I thought about single player games and decided that vg would lose to too many hence I narrowed it down to mmorpgs (as listed on the left side bar).

Maybe you didn't notice, but this thread was posted specifically for people to post screenshots from VG. It was NOT intended to be a graphics comparison thread. Maybe  you didn't actually read the OP's initial post, or maybe you are just overzealous in your crusade to crap all over the games that YOU don't like, but you entered this thread under the wrong pretense.

This is not a discussion, it's a question to post screenshots of Vanguard. Also, by your "logic", I can disprove your Guildwars argument by posting some Bioshock screenshots. Hell, I may as well bring in Lord of the Rings (the movie).

I was replying to the post made by shukes33 disclaiming that Vg has the top graphics.  By your logic, we can clearly say Vg sucked ass and is nothing great.  Too bad it does suck whether you like it or not.

Too bad you can't appraise the beatiful graphics and afford play a P2P mmo's and so you have to link us and show us how satisfied you are with F2P games.

No, I never dropped that down to say no matter what you think the graphic still sucks ass as you did.

Right, to get back on topic of posting some NIFTY screenshots of this EXCELLENT game that I and MANY OTHERS ENJOY...

    http://xs220.xs.to/xs220/07403/wyvern.jpg

    http://xs220.xs.to/xs220/07403/darkelf.jpg

    http://xs220.xs.to/xs220/07403/spear.jpg

I'd post some action shots but its kinda difficult to actually get nice screens while fighting. Well, without GUI at least, and I'd hate to post GUI-shots cause I'd be posting other people without their /consent.

Note: That's medium detail, medium textures.

Fully agree with you i recently upped my graphics card to a X1950 pro 512mb and bumped VG to highest settings highest textures the works and boy was i suprised i could not get over how beautiful the game was i spent 30 mins sat atop the cliffs of ghelad just looking out onto the entrance to khal harbour watching player boats come and go.

However as you mention the one thing that does let the game down graphical wise is a feeling of its a world no facial expressions no children playing in town etc these are things that are fluff but realy do add to the feel that Telon is truly a living breathing world and something i realy hope is added sometime in the future.  And again as others have mentioned wooo guild wars here look at this loveley mountain BUT YOU CANT GO THERE Vanguard is special in that respect eg  a few days ago i was in Karrus Hakrel and looked to the central mountain there i could even make out the 6 dot boss wyvern that lives there and this was from a IG distance of over 1k away.

VG IMHO has the best graphics of any mmo out there they may not be everyones cup of tea but i love them.

I have just recently gone back to VG, thought i would give it another chance, theres no denying the graphics are stunning in places but it feels like a mixed bag really.  Some places look incredible and some places look like they were made in 5 minutes.

These screens were taken running on my HP laptop at 1440x900 (they have been downsixzed by photobucket) with these settings i'm getting between 14-20 fps but the game seems silky smooth with only the occasional hiccup, enjoy the screens :)
