Hi all,
I've been looking through the FAQ and videos but still don't have a clear understanding of how Mythic will hopefully prevent the things I hate most about WOW PVP servers: griefing of lowbies by max characters, corpse camping, and twinking (experienced players setting up their lowbie alts with insane weaponry and enchants).
Will high level characters not be able to go into lowbie areas, or will lowbies not be targetable if their opponent is a certain level above them? What if a lowbie is doing quests in their home city while it's under siege - will they be affected? Will there be a problem with corpse camping in the open PVP areas (I'm imagining scenarios will be simply respawn after a given time)? Finally, anyone know if twinking will be kept in check and whether or not this was even a problem in DAOC?

Griefing of low lvls by high lvls - If a High tier goes into a low tier they turn into a chicken. Essentially, the idea was to debuff them into uselessness, then mythic figured... well at that point it's essentially just a picture of the character... so why not make that picture funny. Plus it sends the rather obvious message, "Fight people yer own size, ya chicken".
Corpse camping - no corpses. When you die, you respawn at a graveyard and/or bind point alive and ready to head back out into the world.
Twinking - you gain XP from PvP/RvR activities, thus there's no hanging around at the high end of a tier with all the best loot and whatnot.
THE CHICKEN!!!!!

Well, during the Dev conference the other night they said some of the details were yet to be worked out. As to this point here.... they now permit players in DAOC to stop leveling if they chose to....... no telling if they might not permit it here in WAR someday.

theres an extremly high chance that they wont allow u to stop lvling since the game revolves mostly around PVP i doubt they would allow u to stop lvling just my 2c though
and another way to stop twinking, i think they said to get new armor sets and stuff you get them as you level and do more PVP, so i dont think you can be low lvl and have super good armor sets like in WoW u have to get them as you level higher
Yea... since you get experience by killing players you really can't make twinks. Unless you plan to roll a new character every few days.
The bad thing about the Chicken method is that you can't help out a lowbie friend (or visa-versa), who needs a little help on a quest... maybe things will be different in WAR though, so you don't need it.

Actually you only turn into a chicken in lower rvr teirs than yours, you don't turn into a chicken in pve zones.
D'oh! Then that makes sense, thanks!

If I had to guess because city sieges are based on everyone on your side of all levels that lowbies during that period in the city would be attackable, but that is a guess so really I know as much as anyone else not in beta.
What I liked that they are doing is making lowbies fair game if they wonder into higher tier RvR areas.
There is a video interview on youtube around where someone is questioned on being able to stop leveling, He makes it sound like they dont see a reason to alow player to turn off exp.
Imposing level rules to dicate who you can and can't kill in PVP is stupid. If you don't want to die don't play on PVP servers. I'm so sick of clones doctoring rules to who and who you can and can't kill at what levels. I'm will grief greys but i won't do it more then once in general. So much fun was lost in PVP style games when they started Carebearing them. If somebody camps your corpse get on the horn and call somebody to come take care of them.. You will find more then enough willing souls to do this.
Somebody mentioned twinking. Its vital that equipment come secondary to skills, talents and career paths. Lets forget uber gear games and focus on the PVP element itself and not who is a gear farmer. Mythic has learned from the mistakes of Trials of Atlantis and don't expect to see artifacts or gear farming in this game.
Sorry, but how do you come to the conclusion that developers not allowing people to gank completely defenceless noobs, as catering for carebears? If you grief noobs, who's the carebear? Forcing people to fight their own levels and skills is much less carebearish.
Meeting enemies as a lowbie is fun, but meeting enemies that you have zero chance against is pathetic. I couldn't care less what anyone else says, those sort of people are the sad little carebears.

well for starters you said your looking for a skill base in WAR but IMO wanting to gank lowbies shows a lack of skill real PVPers with skill enjoy owning people their lvl rather then having to own people who dont stand a chance
Personally I think not letting people gank lowbies is a good way to get rid of a lot of the people that ruin games for everyone else.
The way they are setting up RvR I would say unless they do what they say they are this type of game would encourage ganking, because even lowbies have an effect on the overall RvR there would be a reason for high level people to just run thru and destroy lowbies.
If you played any other PvP game you would know that people would gank with no gain to themselves at all so with what I said above this would in fact be a big mistake not to stop from the beginning.
lol for once roche i actually agree with you
They aren't allowing lowbie griefing mainly because of game design. Lower tier zones affect the higher tier ones. Several high level players can completely dominate a lowbie zone allowing them to easily gain points to help capture higher level zones. To prevent this they had to eliminate high level players from meddling in lowbie PvP zones.
I don't know you from Adam but this post makes me think your one of these guys who get off on killing players much lower than themselves. Just because a game put systems in to reduce high-levels from attacking low levels does not mean they have 'carebeared' the game. Instead, it just means that they are trying to keep the playing field balanced and fun for people of all levels. If anything, it makes the game better in the long run.
Fight people your own size. When you attack a low level with a high level it is the same thing as a high-school kid beating up some poor sob in elementary school. Sheesh
honestly why would any one want to gank lowbies i mean its soooooo boring. i used to gank lowbies all the time on my 70 warrior in wow and id 1 shot them.....whats fun about that. it got boring after like five minutes. only people who like to gank lowbies are noobs who suck so bad thats the only thing they can kill
This argument has pretty much been used since the news about the Chaos Chicken was announced.
Check Warhammer Alliance or any of the other Warhammer boards. No matter how well phrased the argument for attacking low lvl characters is, it always makes the person who thinks this is an ok practice, look like a jerk.
While the mentality: "Well you know its a PVP game just suck it up and kill the person when you get high enough" seems reasonable, it really only works for the ganker/attacker. It disuedes those who would potentially by the game from even trying due to fear of constantly being attacked by someone they cant attack back.
In PVP a certain amount of "Natural Selection" is needed, but all out free for all PVP does not work in western games.
I hate to say it , but to be completely realistic: If you did allow high levels to go to low level zones to attack others, you would completely imbalance the RvsR. I am sure there would be people DEDICATED to making sure that every low level not on their alliance dies a horrible death to ensure a City Siege for their side.
The whole game is based upon the RvR concept and as such all PvE is entwined into the storyline. If ganking and twinking were alowed then there would be no incentive for lower levels to participate (much in the same way that WoW has managed to completely isolate new levels from entering battlegrounds).
I will say this though, aAny high levels who complain about not being able to kill lowbies need to take a good long look at themselves.....where is the challenge. Does picking fight you can win with no effort inflate your ego or something?? WAR appeals to a different player base that actually enjoys FAIR PvP where if you get beat it is down to skill and a bit part of this game is TEAMWORK! If you struggle at PvP normally then you can still participate and help out the team and still get rewards from it so it is the overall team that wins and gains points rather than an individual only, and as such it is down to the whole team to learn to work together. This will mean fair PvP and removes the need for the best gear and the best weapons to simply have a massive advantage over everyone else (sound familiar???)
The Chicken is a great idea and I hope it works.
Games that have no system from irrational ganking will fall the way of Shadowbane or become a botfest like in Lineage.
I simply cannot grasp the concept of killing a player who has not obtained the necessary skills/powers to provide a challange. People complain that PvE provides no challange hence PvP is the best way to game. Yet I see many players spend their time in zones where they have no reason being except to cause grief to other players. When players are just starting to learn a game they may not have the luxury of a host of friends to call upon to exact revenge.
WAR has it right. Make PvP challanging to all by having combat against similar level and provide meaningful rewards. Not just mindless ganking.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
I also love the Chicken rule
And I sure hope they come up with a good idea to deal with twinking.. Im tired of facing twinked out characters (Anarchy ONline and WOW). Perhaps but a level limit on people, items, gear like say if your lvl 39 you cannot have +15 on both your wpns for example.

you cant twink in WAR since twinking is getting the best gear FOR A CERTAIN LVL. in war you cannot stop lvling and since you get XP from PVP you'll lvl regardless therefore twinking is bye bye

I love naive optimist.....There will always be twinking as long as you have alts, thats why the RP servers on EQ use to only allow you one character.......
Yes your always leveling but that pretty much goes for WoW and Everquerst 2 as well. And just because you get xp for pvp does not mean people wont twink...
Some people have to have the best of everything for their secondary characters, it does not matter if it will be useless in one or two lvls, they have to have that rare blue item for their lvl 5 character.
A lot of you are use to WoW where twinking was problematic in PVP, but you must remember WoW did not start the twinking phenomenon, check out EQ, DoAC, SWG, and just about every other MMO out there... heck people twink in freaking PAPER RPGs....
I hate to inform you: there will be twinks, and lots of them.

hopefully they ll limit the effects of enchants or whatever system they have in WAR to customize items, having the best gears for your level is ok, but if we take wow s system, having a twinked out toons with full enchants make it impossible for none twink to have a single chance of killing you, i ve seen lvl 19 warriors with 2000+ hp, try killing them with a mage or a warlock, it takes what ? 15 fireball to take them down. yeah sure its all to have a chance at better fights they say, not an ego issue.
so basically i say its ok to have the best item stats at your level, but giving the full bonus of a top level item/enchants is just plain dumb and catter to the type of people i hope will keep playing wow...
