EVE Online: Trinity Expansion Details

SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

CCP has announced that EVE online will receive an expansion this coming winter.  The Trinity Expansion will include a major graphics update as well as a number of additions to the game's content and will be free to all EVE subscribers.

Reykjavik, Iceland - October 11, 2007 - CCP, one of the world's leading independent game developers, today announced an upcoming expansion of EVE Online, a popular massively multi-player online game (MMOG). The Trinity expansion will feature a next-generation graphics engine. The release of the new graphics engine aims to fortify the position of the popular MMOG as the market leader in graphical excellence. The expansion will not only enhance the visual impact of every element of the game, but also includes a myriad of content additions. As always, the next EVE Online expansion will be free to all subscribers.

The new graphics engine leverages Shader Model 3.0 technology to enable rich dynamic range imaging, including bloom, shadows and enhanced geometric detail, while maintaining a high frame rate on supporting platforms. Visual changes entail remodeled and retextured ships, stations and stargates.

The Trinity expansion ushers in a host of fresh content and gameplay improvements to EVE Online. Upgraded content includes advancements in combat tactics and battlefield management, additional capabilities that lend greater depth to the pilot experience and multiple new Tech II class ships.

"CCP has been on a continuous quest to offer cutting-edge virtual world experiences to engage the most advanced users on the Internet," said Halldor Guðjónsson, chief technology officer of CCP. "With the launch of our next-generation graphics engine and gameplay improvements, we aim not only to enhance the in-world experience of our dedicated EVE players, but also to capture the interest of new gamers. While EVE Online has been arguably one of the most visually appealing MMOGs, the quality of the images enabled by our advanced graphics engine sets a precedent for visuals that blurs the line between a computer game and a movie."

The 'EVE Online: Trinity' expansion includes: A new graphics engine:

  • All spaceships, stargates and space stations in EVE Online have been remodeled; each object is comprised of several million polygons and multiple layers of high resolution textures
  • Native Shader Model 3.0 engine
  • Environmental effects, such as shadows and nebula-based lighting models, tie graphical assets into the different solar systems of EVE Online
  • Ground-breaking visual fidelity, which blurs the lines between a game and a movie

Combat advancements:

  • Heat damage attenuation and repair while in space
  • Better drone management capabilities
  • Mid-flight bomb deployment capabilities along forward trajectories
  • Attribute Reassignment Modifier (ARM) scripts to modify bonus attributes of sensor boosters, dampeners and tracking modules
  • Eased transition from rookie to elite pilot with revamped New Player Experience
  • Fleet integration and enhanced management of fleet operations with EVE Voice

Content additions for Player versus EVE (PVE) gameplay:

  • Hundreds of new kill missions and a re-introduction of mining missions
  • Multi-frequency probe for more versatile exploration
  • Faction loyalty points store items

New Tech II ships:

  • Black Ops battleships - For undetectable infiltration and covert operations in hostile territory
  • Marauder battleships - Optimized for massive damage output to spearhead assaults in enemy territory
  • Suppressor Heavy Interdictor cruisers - A more lethal interdictor whose warp-jamming suppression sphere moves with the ship
  • Specter Electronic Attack ships - For quick propulsion lockdown and sensor suppression of enemy ships

Not only is it a good time to be a EVE player, just imagine how great it will be to be a EVE player once Ambulation comes out.

EVE doesn't get worse from aging; it's one of the few MMORPGs that get better with time.

Serious death penalties makes every close call an adrenaline rush, and every minor achievement a major victory. This alternative rule-set should be in all MMORPGs.

I can't wait either! I'm really looking forward to it!

Very excited indeed. Looking forward to ambulation also and beyond for planetary landings etc. Eve will just get better and better!

MMORPG.com PLEASE do some fact checking before you post your news events. The features you list are not one but TWO SEPARATE expansions.

Trinity is EVE Online's Graphical Framework. (see: pretty colors) It is getting a signifcant overhaul to be fully Dx9 compliant.

Revelations Part III is ALSO coming out this winter. This is a content Expansion.

So ... Trinity = gfx, not content.

hih planetary landings ? ambulation?? :p

the only thing i ever saw was a movie where you could see a ship flying in the atmosphere of a planet. Do you got any new info about the future of EVE Online? If so, could you give me a link.? :)

since i don't play this game, but i still try to stay updated with the latest info :]

Not much on planetary landings yet, but in station ambulation has this short clip which was released a month or so ago.

At last! EVE gets the visual upgrade to put its graphics on the same level as its gameplay.

The planetary landings, bases on planets, mineral extraction on planets and all that have been mentioned as directions they want to head in the future. These mentions are in the devblogs. I'm not sure which one/ones discussed it, but it's probably  where they talk about ambulation since that's the first step in that direction.

I'm sure any planetary involvement will be years into the future....nothing anywhere near soon. Near future seems to be ambulation, factional warfare, and tech 3.

    You're wrong.

Revelations III has been renamed 'Eve Online: Trinity' as per the press release the news article here at MMORPG.com references. Trinity II will be delivered in the same expansion as the content in what was previously kali/rev III. You seem to be getting confused with the DX10 support, which isn't coming in this expansion. New graphics are.

Do show the gold post where Rev3 is now called trinity. I would love to see that.  And no, I was NOTunder the impression this was the dx10 upgrade. It does set the basis for dx10, though with rebuilding the models to get a high poly count, etc.

    Edits for asinine forum design.

Edit2: apparently CCP fells the need to confuse ppl. Crap.

Trinity: The expansion you have to see

We're getting an expansion this winter, and it's real shiny. In fact, it's so shiny that we had to add a lot of other things just so you could see how shiny it is. Its shininess includes 50 man-years of work remodeling all spaceships, stargates and station exteriors and interiors, plus all the improvements and additions that go hand in hand with introducing this kind of burning luminosity. It is, in fact, a brand new graphic engine, tuned and tweaked with everything from asynchronous resource loading to intelligent fallback mechanisms to give the best performance possible, and we're very proud of it.

To show off its shininess we're adding a host of Tech II ships that include the eerie Black Ops, the spearheading Marauders and the warp-jamming Heavy Interdictors, not to mention the lockdown terrors that are the Electronic Attack Ships, and the masters of the supply chain, the Jump Freighters. That's not to mention an abundance of PvE content, including hundreds of new kill missions, and various game advancements ranging from improved drone management to new booster production regions. EVE, our tranquil and magnificent vision, has been given a terrifying new beauty.

Notice how it is presented as a single package?

now just incase that doesnt do it for you, see the referenced press release here

    specifically;

The expansion will not only enhance the visual impact of every element of the game, but also includes a myriad of content addition

but yeah, its all a bit confusing *shrugs* this is ccp we're on about man!

If you had bothered to read through CCP's own announcement, you'd notice that it's a mixed expansion. It's mainly the trinity upgrade, but also a content expansion. Check the link in the first post ;)

Can't wait for it to come out!! :D

cool not its a shinyer crappy game

it still doesnt seem that you addressed the problem with PVP griefers that keep most casual players  away from EVE

its no fun having multimillion doller transports  or miners (no weapons) poded  just because some kid wants to show how long and big his "ship" is

maby if you would FIXED this you wouldnt be a nitch game like you are with your cult  of terrorists griefers.

how about an independant  non-pvp faction?

make a world, not a game, we dont want another game.

Ah the irony.  Your sig calls for a "world" not a game, and yet EVE is the only MMO that even closely approximates a "world".

PvP is what it is.  EVE has rules and possibilities same as any other.  You either protect yourself from them or you don't.  Either way the consequences are all on your head.

Their "niche" game is doing just fine the way it is, why would they alienate their playerbase by pulling an NGE?  There are lots of PvE only games out there, no need to add another one to the pile.

  • brenthbrenth Member UncommonPosts: 301

their PVP is out of control when  new people  or people that just want to mine or haul are getting podded in vastly inferrior ships  especially unarmed  miners and haulers.

I bet thousands of people would love to play eve if it wasnt so anti casual player  I know I would.

but im not going to waste my time just so someone can pod me out of my multi million doller miner and then kill me  on top of it

how long would you stay in a city where everyday  your car got blasted by an m1 tank while you were on your way to work?

and dont bother saying "buy a gun"  the game is set up so unless your a longtime veteran template  you cant compete  like puting a sherman up agains the m1 tank

""either you protect yourself from them or you don't""

with that coment your saying everyone should drive an M1 tank to work

or if someone robs your house its YOUR fault? because you didnt have enough locks?  im sorry but your thinking is just twisted   hope you dont carry a gun to school and "pod" all your classmates that should have also brought guns.

make a world, not a game, we dont want another game.

  • sgtbencsgtbenc Member Posts: 13

They openly state that the game isn't for everyone on their website. I've been podded many times. It's just something you have to deal with. If it's not your cup of tea, than go play WoW.

  • mindspatmindspat Member Posts: 1,367

Kinda skilly aint it.  You have a development studio that started from scrach, almost failed miserably and has now become an icon of success, yet you still have trolls presented non factual opinions as if it were the words of God.

Not all games work for everyone.  What EVE does, it does better then the rest.

There's no arguement here.  CCP is not only playing the field with EVE Online they are also destroying The other MMO's in the process!  And ffs, go play Star Wars Galaxies: nge if you want a spoon fed account without any risk.

EVE will be here longer then the rest.  :D
