I'm always in for p2p games, since I invest a lot of time in them anyways. While it's natural that people live on tight budgets, it's definitely a mistake to miss out on something as good as Aion because of a monthly fee... It's gonna be worth it. Believe it.

I heard it wad Buy to play like guildwars... I also think its funny that some of you say p2p is better to keep kidish people off it because right now from what I read most of you act more kidish than some kids I know.
I heard it from friends, but to be honest no one knows for sure... someone can cuss us all out and claim were all dumb and that they are right, but the truth is, the official website nor NC site has any information reguarding payment. So as far as anyone can be sure, its all speculation and wild gueses.
B2P would be dreamy, but it seems like the type of game to be P2P.
I don't know about most games. but people seem to treat this game like the F2P games. Especially when they refer to the Beta, or what the game looks like it's going to be, "grindfest, etc". There is a HUGE difference in the way it is not only developed but the way it is tested and the way information is released. If it is not on the official site, or in an official press release (which is normally featured on the official site) then it IS NOT official..

Sorry, that was brought on but something I read in another thread that happened to find it's way out here.
If this isn't P2P or at least B2P then I'm not even going to let it tempt me. "Cash Malls make more money" please -.- thats a load of bullock. I want 2 F2P games that use cash malls that make it in the Top 10 on a regular basis... none ever do.. why? because not only are Monthly fees a more reliable income, it promotes customer loyalty. they paid for an entire month, they are less likely to abandon the game for another. not saying it stops them, its only less likely.
Look at it this way. A Subscription magazine is usually more factual and reliable than a Buy as your Read Tabloid.
Also i would like to say 6 out of 11 of NCsoft games have been major hits. I mean well rounded, fully developed, very successful games. and as far as I know, they havn't used Cash Malls, just P2P and B2P.
But this is of course, just my opinion. Like I said. This is probably going to be P2P and I hope it is.
The main reason why Aion will NEVER be B2P : The game is NOT fully instanced like in GW !
The main reason why GW is B2P : The game is fully instanced !
I can't see how NCsoft will handle the server cost just by selling the game and letting us play it for free ... just think of GW like DII with battlenet exept you don't have the solo mode, and instead of a chat room you have the "cities"

Item Malls work wonders
Except that Item Malls are easily abused and usually inputed poorly. Any game that has content that can only be achieved by spending extra money and those spending extra money have an advantage over the average player is not worth playing imo.

The games that I have seen only give temporary items... and if people who don't pay in the item mall complain about it then they can stop playing because the game is free to them. They should be happy other players buy from the item mall and kick their ass because it supports the game.
I don't think item malls are abused at all. I have seen games that offer pretty cool things like character glows and faster running or exp gain, ect.
Usually only games created by a company will be charged a full monthly payment, this game is imported from korea(?) which also has 5 other versions being translated for other companies. IF any one of those other companies go with item mall or charge less than PlayNC, what do you think players will do? They will go play the version thats cheaper or free even if they can't understand the language. (usually fans will come out with non official english patches for other language games) .
This is why I can't exactly place what PlayNC will do about pricing...
Hikaru, any game where a player can go out and spend a lot of money and then just own other players regardless of skill is flawed. For me at least, mmorpg's are the most enjoyable games because of their depth and the challenge that PvP always brings. I don't want to beat someone solely because I bought items with my credit card. I want to be the better player because I am skilled at the game, not because I make more money at my job.
An even field of combat leads to creativity in strategies, a far greater challenge, and when your in the moment you put forth your best because you know you can lose. Win or lose, thats something I wouldn't give up.
im not going to argue this anymore, I suggest all of you play some games with item mall and really look at the items. None of the stuff give SUPER advantage over anyone else. What I said was just an exageration to what the person said before about people getting their ass kicked. Usually if you get your ass kicked in any game, either with item malls, its because you just plain suck.
Item malls work, end of story. Many games use it and are fairly popular, so it's no doubt others can use it too. Item Malls differ from other games, it all depends on the DEV's perspective on what to add in it and keep the game playable to how they want it. Like I said before, most items consist of exp increase and movement speed and things around that... "no exp loss on death" scrolls.
So to level like twice as fast as other players is fair? Item malls are uhm yeah just lame...
it is fair... its an advantage in games that are supported by item mall only, its what allows you, the non buyer, to keep playing. So what if someone levels faster? You will level just as much, just might take a day extra (usually exp bonus is only a hour or so long depending on how much they spend). the exp increase to that player is usually only 20-40 exp per kill more, which is decent, but not great. (its not DOUBLE exp... so its not twice as fast. I've never seen an item mall with double exp gain, usually 10-20%)
Seriously, stop bit**ing about this, if your too lame to put in some money for item malls on non-monthly fee games, BUT YET you want to play monthy fee games... I just gotta ask if your stupid.
Item mall is a way for games to survive just like if it were monthly fee, except people have the choice of whether or not to give the company money (for those who do, get rewards, w/e they purchase in the shop).
Here you guys are being stupid saying its unfair advantage but really its not, its just rewards for people who keep the game up. So whats the big deal? If your willing to put in money for monthly fee, then if a game is supported by Item mall, put that monthly fee money you were willing to pay into the item mall... and BAM you have the benefits too. I don't see the problem.
Option A: monthly fee, ok pay it
Option B: Item mall, ok put that money into that instead... and get very small benefits on time limits
So to level like twice as fast as other players is fair? Item malls are uhm yeah just lame...
wats the point in complaining i would rather have item malls then pay ridiculous prices monthly like wow for example and u should like the challenge of leveling noob.
While I exaggerated the extent of benefits players that use item malls over those who don't you can hardly say that item malls are the exact same as P2P. Paying monthly is a stable income for the company, item malls are up and down. Its really not a great business model unless they do it really well but anything is possible.
I believe in-game sold items create un-balance within an mmorpg. They should do it the monthly pay way. Atleast, when you pay monthly you are assured that:
1- Less retarded players(except for WoW :P)
2- Patches, fixes, updates, free expansions in some cases(L2).
3- A game of higher quality. Like they say, you pay for what you get for. I don't see why 15$ is too much for some people. GO WORK N00B. You can make that cash in two hours.
I still defend my earlier statement about this game being a translated korean game. There are many versions and each will vary in price if all of them even have a price at that. For a MMO to successfully establish a monthly fee, they have to be the ONLY ones with the licence to host it. Since there are about 7 versions of AION, this will be very interesting. WoW can maintain $14 a month because they are the sole owners and there are no private servers (that i'm aware of).
If there is a Monthly fee from PlayNC on this game, I can't image it being very high, maybe $7 a month depending what the other 6 versions do.
Calling other people noobs on a forum? ... uhm grow up? and yeah oh my fucking GOD!! 12-15 $ month *shrugs* I'll have to eat noodles for the rest of my life to afford playing a game that expensive.
And if you didn't figure this out: I want all games to be fair and equal for all players even if it's just some small benefit you might get. Of course I could pay for stuff from an item mall. Only two small problems. 1: I wouldn't do it because its unfair 2: I don't play games with item malls because about 99,99% of them pretty much stink.
"If I had a d*ck, I'd go get laid. But we can do that next best thing... Let's kill people."
Personally I would rather pay the monthly fee than have an item mall, unless the item mall does not give players big advantages in pve, and pvp, which will truely make the game unfair all around.

Do research.
Item Malls certainly do work quite well and the items are in fact nothing that's 'unfair'...
That said I wouldn't expect Aion to go this way as a playment option ^_^

why even discussing this ? Aion is a big ncsoft production not a unfinished, poor designed F2P asian game.
It will be P2P period.
Item malls were claimed to work wonders, we are just discussing it. We don't expect Aion to have item malls or anything.
