Well now that the NDA is off on HG there are a couple more comments I'd add.
1. The game is very much like guildwars from the MMOg aspect. You have many areas where you interact with quest npcs, merchants, crafting centers etc and other players as well as various chat channels. From the MMOG structure the game is very guildwars like.
2. The instances you fight in autoscale to your group and you can summon group members when you go in from whereever they might be via a party portal. Every mob killed gives full xp and the loot drops are instanced for each player meaning everything you see is yours.
3. The game is very buggy still. It leaks memory like a siv meaning that an hour or two my computer pops a dialog saying system is out of memory killing hellgate or sometimes it just crashs to the desk. Thats on a 2g system. Also there are other bugs like where things stop responding, invisible stuff attacks you, and the portal to get out of an instance vanished and you can't create a personal portal to escape.
4. Finally the game skill development and loot styles are very much like diablo2. Encounters are generally like diablo2 where you have groups of mobs you fight and various tougher elite, champion, boss type mobs.
5. Combat is very similar to TR with the exception that it has more skills, more weapons, and more variety of both types of weapons you can use with differing effects and variety of mobs. Also the play area's are better in my opinion they are full of trash, broken rubble, cars, trucks or various other objects which allow you to play more ducking and dodging games. Yes you can dodge ranged attacks.
So number 3 is going to be a big issue if they don't have a mirracle patch but that issue aside I think the game play is very well setup and a lot of fun. I think there is a lot about the game that is similar to TR and I'm sure there wll be plenty of people making comparisons.
I haven't played TR in the past couple of weeks, but they were definitly going to wrong way with patches... On the other hand, HG:L is pretty fun despite the bugs and such.
Comments
WoW was just added as a personal reflection on the different approaches and weapons to combat one of those "oh hey, I never thought of that".
