I haven't played the demo, so I don't know what's in it.
And that says it all, don't it? My critique was based on the demo, which you haven't played. And I don't care if HG:L is the next best game ever made. Demo = game. Period.
Tell the devs to make a demo of the game you are seeing, 'cause it sure as hell ain't in the current demo.

Really? A pentium 2 could run the high setting in that demo. The graphics are nowhere near "many times better".
First, Demo does not = game. I've played some AMAZING demos only to be extremely disappointed by the final release.
Second, CALM DOWN ABOUT THE GAME ALREADY. Flaming every single person that posts on this isn't going to make the demo better for you.

I'm tossing in a short 2 shekels on this. I've been playing since the last couple weeks of Alpha. Where Flagship went wrong was the point where they got greedy and tried to siphon off some of the WoW playerbase. Unfortunately for them, the game is a single-player game with a multiplayer feature set. You only see other players in the hubs and, at most, no more than 15 or 20 at a time and I quickly learned to hate even that because the other people are more of a nuisance than an inducement to socialize. Chat is a direct mutation of the now-legendary WoW Barrens chat. The difference is, unless you turn it off completely, the idiocy follows you everywhere.
Flagship has bet the farm on players shelling out $150 a pop for Lifetime access to features that may be very short-lived unless they can sustain enough people willing to shell out 10 bucks a month to play a game with no soul. They could have made a great LAN or limited online game, but instead, they chose to squander resources developing online systems which will be denied to all but their Premium tier players. The result is a gutted single-player game with limited replayability unless you buy into their extortion and pay them more money.
If you're looking for a MMORPG, you'll be disappointed, but hey, it's your money. Me, I'm finding Elder Scrolls: Oblivion much more engaging.

Well put! I agree, the multiplayer aspect of this game is extremely shallow, and really has no place in the game other than potential lan parties with friends. As a single player game it could have a bit more story added, and maybe a cinema or two for flavor but otherwise it could be fun.
Combat, sucks...Animations, suck, Story and UI suck. Pass this one up, you were warned.
LOL
Hay, just trying to be honest, i was expecting alot more form this game...but its realy does suck.
The graphics are good.

If you're looking for raiding, then yeah this game will be shallow. However, if you're more the person who prefers 5-10 man groups to play with close friends, then I think the multiplayer aspect of this game can offer a lot. For me, the ability to play with my friends rather then a bunch of strangers is a huge draw for me. Also, the ability to just go in a dungeon and kick some arse without making sure we have the holy trinity is a big draw. Nothing is more frustrating then not being able to play because you don't have a tank/healer/dps. I just wanna kill without unnecessary complexities, and collect phat lootz on the way. This game offers that.
Don't get me wrong, the game is not perfect by any means. For example, the thought of playing 100% of the time in a burned out city landscape or sewer dungeons is a bit of a turnoff. I am hoping that as time goes on the landmass is expanded to include alternative locations such as forests or mountains. Demons can reside there just as much as in the cities.
Am I the only one who found the game movement controls weird and non-intuitive? The combination of WASD and mouse movement/camera control felt very clunky for me. My character was constantly running around in a hunch because movement always seemed to drop down the view.
I've always felt that judging a game based on character movement is a sensible thing to do. You spend more time moving that you do fighting, crafting, leveling or anything else in any game. If the engine can't make simple movement comfortable than I can only see it attracting those gamers who are willing to put in the time to teach themselves.
Personally I don't spend money on games where I have to learn to walk.
Plus I got stuck on some of the cool-looking environmental junk in my first 10 minutes of play and had to log out to fix it. Not a very ausipcious impression.

The controls also seemed a bit funky to me at first, but after changing the graphics to medium the movement was much smoother and I felt much more comfortable playing. Perhaps this was more my getting used to the controls then the graphics, but perhaps modifying the graphics a bit may help for you as well.
The movement reminds me a lot of Oblivion, and I lasted all of about five minutes with that game. So I know where you're coming from. It's different then normal and takes a bit of getting used to.
I didnt have any problem moving my character and found it very fluid, also never have gotten stuck and I jump all over the place....maybe you just have to get used to it? /shrug.
On a side note, I find it very funny that the mojorty that play the Beta like the game but the Demo people hate it...something has to be up with that Demo, that, or people dont know what demos are for (Demoing the basic game....).

I don't raid, and I don't want raids EVER. What I was saying is that apart from seeing other people in the hubs there is really no grouping going on at least in my experience. Now, if you play with a dedicated group of friends then I'm sure it's awesome because loots get better drop rates and stuff with more people in the zone. I, however, do NOT have any friends interested in playing Hellgate so I don't have that luxury. I'd have preferred they promote more grouping or open multiplayer.
Also, I can guarantee that there are no forest/jungle zones in this game. The zones are randomized in a set parameter of different skins. So, what you've seen is what you get, at least that is how it looks.
Honestly, I played it a lot, and really enjoyed it but then I bought Team Fortress 2 and have since lost interest in anything else. Hellgate is a good game, and a VERY enjoyable one for old school diablo fans. It's got the itemcentric core, and the hack and slash gameplay to satiate the needs of those players. It does however have a strange set up where, like guildwars, you see people in the hubs or whatever, but then you go through little portals into instanced (and Randomized) zones to fight and do quests. I haven't ever seen a time when grouping would make sense so playing online is basically bunk, and there is no PVP in the vein of Diablo 2. I don't see anyone really being disappointed with this game if they came into it understanding of what it is. It is a good, fun, hack and slash game with great graphics, and lots of crap to destroy.
There will be PvP, and grouping in this game is an option, not a must. That said, if you group you do get EXP and loot bonusses.
Combat, sucks...Animations, suck, Story and UI suck. Pass this one up, you were warned.
LOL
Hay, just trying to be honest, i was expecting alot more form this game...but its realy does suck.

are you kidding? are seriously friggin kidding? this game is gonna be awesome, i wish they put more into the demo. why would you judge a game off of its graphics? and besides, it supports dx10 cards, so thats what it probly looks best with. and the combat is awesome too. having played many games myself, i know for a fact that this game is gonna be big. to anyone reading this forum, disregard all the negative comments it's a great game, and a good demo. i highly recommend this game to all people who like a good rpg.
I played the demo for what it is - a basic demonstration of gameplay.
And it is exactly what I wanted - it is fun, it doesn't tax my brain, it satisfies my munchkiny instincts, shows a lot of potential for growth and promises to be a lot of fun when all the content gets in.
As of now it is the smoothest gameplay experience I had in quite a while and the pace is just right for me.
For all the people bashing the game based on the demo... what is with you guys? This is a demo - a demonstration of core game mechanics and basic looks. You can't comment on story or game difficulty for example because these are not really represented in a demo.
The only gripes I have with the demo are
a) mouse pointer feels weird - they obviously use the same driver for mouse-look and inventory/menus
b) quest descriptions take ages to skip sentence by sentence... weird... an action RPG should have as little as possible time wasted on reading walls of text... "Just show me where they are.."
It is smooth, it promises to be fun and what's wrong with lack of story or "immersion"? If I want these things I'll play some other game - AoC or WAR i.e. - but for nice brainless hack 'n' slash diversion this promises to be just perfect for me.
My heart is big enough to love more than one game at a time
The game looks good but they really should of made it into a traditional mmo like eq2/wow where you can create a toon on a server, log in and see other people playing/questing around and looking for groups etc.. Then put a monthly on it.. I've been waiting for a fast paced action mmo 3d diablo type game for a long time but they always have some dumb way of implementing the multi player.
Maybe these guys will make some profit from this game and realize the potential of making a standard mmo game, then actually go about making one..
And people are gonna pay a monthly fee to play this? Amazing how easy it is to get people to give away their money for absolutly nothing. If I had less morals, I really should do somehting similar.
This game has nothing to do on MMORPG.com at all. Its a simple, onedimensional shooter with a fee. And its not the fee that makes an MMO.. its the content. This is action diablo and nothing else... Pure junk, but history show people love paying for junk. Just look at Britney Spears record sales. Same people here...

You are quite possibly the most idiotic person I have ever met on an online forum. This is a place to express someone's opinion, using argumentated statements and what not. Here you come bashing everyone who likes the game and comparing them to people that like Britney Spears?
And on an off-topic note, music is universal, music is emotion. You can't blame people for liking a certain song if it touches a string on there insides. Grow up.
And to the person above Harafnir, yes the game has gone gold. The version that has gone gold is about 3-4 builds (2-3 now) above the ones in beta, and probably above the one in the demo (havent played the demo since im in beta).
Well I just finished the demo myself. I was extremely looking forward to this game and was already planning on shelling out the $50 for it. Thank god I tried this demo first.
The demo is horrible. It is bland and boring and the graphics are bleh. Everything looks like different shades of sooty gray. Character models are also bleh for a game being released in 2007. (women especially)
The story and quests in the demo are TOO simplistic (all 4 of them lol) hunt/kill these 10 items type of quests with very poor storylines attached. It must have taken them all of about 10 minutes to write them and put them in the demo.
I was hoping for so much more. This demo is BORING. If this demo is nothing like the actual game like some of the other posters in the beta have suggested then they need to pull this demo and make a new one QUICK or they are going to lose alot of potential customers because it truly sucks! After playing it there is no way I would ever shell out $50 for this game. Hell based off the demo play I wouldn't even play this game if it were free.
Whoever was in charge of this demo should be fired immediately because they just lost alot of customers and money...I mean what the hell were they thinking?
Am I the only one who found the game movement controls weird and non-intuitive? The combination of WASD and mouse movement/camera control felt very clunky for me. My character was constantly running around in a hunch because movement always seemed to drop down the view.
Anyone who has played a FPS or other 3D MMo has delt with the controls before. I didn't find them clunky in the least bit. Rather well put together though the only thing I didn't like is that Q and E are used for skill/spell slots which always had me tend to want to remove my middle finger from the W to fire instead of my pointer or ring finger.
None the less the controls and style remind me very much of a FPS making this a great for the action RPG genre.
Sucks to hear the demo sucks cuz the beta is freakin sweet.
Funny everyone bashing the game has only played the demo and everyone in beta loves it. I'm in beta btw and yeah the demo is a hacked down version and plus lvls 1-10 are so boring anyway. 10+ it gets fun with all the new guns/equipment you start getting. To those complaining about difficulty and stuff they have stated there is an "elite" mode where difficulty is amped up. Then you have nightmare mode where its even harder. So yes you can do Elite nightmare mode even Elite hardcore nightmare mode. The game is good you just saw a shitty representation is all.

The game went GOLD when demo was released.
Meaning the game is done - what you see is what you get.
And for people saying that game is better than demo?!
Normaly the companies put EXTRA attention on the DEMO - because it is the thing that sells the game.
I played games that DEMOs are so much better than actual game , i felt cheated when i bought actual game.
So telling me that EA made mistake and put out the DEMO that is worse than game itself ?!
Sorry i do not belive that is possible ?
