It is pretty obvious that War Hammer won't get hit by this move. Dark Age of Camelot and UO will, because they are on their death bed. Doesn't need a degree in marketing to call the shot on that.
So cut the crap already and get a clue before wasting people precious time who wants to read about "relevant" information. Not your view about the end of the world and how it started and you saw it come...

LOL, oh sweet irony. But they had enough coin to spent 860 MILLION USD on buying Bioware, 620 MILLIONS of that in CASH!
Maybe this CEO should have been more careful with spending EA millions BEFORE that! But isnt it always like that? SOme big CEO spents the millions and the small working people get fired. Great. ><
Looks like a BIG red flag on EA and Mythic, if its true.

You are joking here right?
The two have nothing to do with one another. The purchase of Bioware was an acquisition of assets that will increase the net worth of the company and expand their capabilities. It is much like purchasing capital equipment in a manufacturing plant.
What JR is deal with is not a lack of cash for the company (that is obvious given the amount of cash they laid out). It is about the profits the company is seeing on a daily basis. He is saying, 'Guys, profits are not where they were. We need to be a little more frugal and cut some fat'.
There are no red flags here. This is just pure good business.
Ah the lovely rumor mill again shows it's colours.
You'd think people would learn that you don't believe anything on the interwebs until it comes from the official sites. Some bozo posting in some forum is not official.
And to the guy saying DAoC will die when Warhammer comes out... it's already dead, they just refuse to shut it down.

I don't want to put all my money on it, but I think EA is maybe realizing WAR isn't going to be as big as they thought. Or maybe their not happy with what they see, which means we will see a copy paste game like EA thinks is right to do instead of being original. I don't know, I would be a bit worried if I were you guys. I'm sure there are more reasons than "we are running out of money." Cause we know EA has enough of it.
I think that War is past the point of EA being able to copy paste things from other MMO's into the game. The RvR PvP is already very advanced because the team has used the great parts of DaOC. I do think that Zorvan is correct, once new mmos are out what is the point of putting money into games that have low chance of new subscribers. At its current state Warhammer is passed the point of significantly changing the gameplay and PvP functionality.
Agreed TheCrow..
If they are clearing house, they'll be clearing house on DAOC and UO before they touch WAR.

Honestly...its normal practice when companies move offices or acquire more business's they trim out the people its unnecessary to move, keep, or that have given less than steller productive results over the years. Every Corporation game or not does this its the only way to keep themselves from sinking. You wouldn't honestly keep around a bunch of people that stood and picked their nose and pay them for that would you?
EA does suck they have horrible methods for how they treat their In House Employees (case in EA Employee Wife who let the world see how shit they are) but they aren't the damn devil. Atleast they're not actually killing UO and DaoC just trimming the fat thats absorbing more money than its worth.

I agree that many people just love to hate on the big-guys like Microsoft and EA. But in the case of people being worried about EA's ownership of Mythic and now Bioware the fear and hate is justified I think.
EA has a VERY poor track record in regards to MMO's. I can think of two games off the top of my head that I was very interested in that EA just cancelled a good ways into developement. Those games being UOX and Mythica, both high-profile AAA MMO titles that were canned 2+ years into their respective development cycles. Not to mention their shutting down Earth & Beyond and canceling development on two other iterations of UO2. These reasons, more then anything is what worries me the most about EA's involvement w/ Mythic and now Bioware.
I mean, I can over-look EA's constant repackaging of their sports titles year after year while adding minimal new features to the games and charging full retail for products that vary very little from the previous years incarnation. Or their milking fans of The Sims constantly by charging $30+ for small "expansions" that add a few new items to the game such as the The Sims2-Pets, or Holiday Packs and such.
In this instance I think fans of MMO's have quite a bit to be worried about. IMO there is good reason for us to concerned about the future of Mythic's and Bioware's MMO's.
edit: It seems I made a mistake, Mythica was developed and cancelled by Microsoft not EA
It just shows again that EA is all aboput profit. EA will definitely not shutdown WAR before release, but they willconstantly monitor costs. As long as WAR makes good profits after release they will keep a big dev team for live too. But when it doesn't sell as good as expected EA will be the first to lay off devs or move them to another project.
I gotta say, even though EA has a very poor track record with MMO's who cares? Even the guy with big names that produce new MMO's suck. Look at Vangaurd and Tabula Rasa. OMG you guys worked on previous MMO's it should be awesome....and people were wrong. Look at SOE, killer of SWG and what they did with EQII. That game is now much better than it was and they should be given props for that.
At this point in time I think it is time to just try every companies/studios MMO and hope that 1 out of 50 is a winner regaurdless of who puts it out.
From reading the links that been posted, it seems ea is moving uo team to mythic's place. And (like with every move) a lot of uo devs don't want to move and were/will be laid off. Sucks for uo but doesn't seem to effect war.
People also have to remember, when eq canceled uo2 and uox, it was before wow's success. EA also had uo, a successful mmo, and the people looking to play uo2/uox would likely come (in part at least) from uo. Times are different war has a potential to bring a ton of money to ea. So, both uo and doac would have their teams laid off and the plug pulled before ea will be amkign any significant changes to war's dev team.
Ea is about profit? =p what company isn't? If mythic were independant company still, would they not be all about profit too? I mean, if as a company you aren't about profit, you aren't going to be around all that long.
This is EA people!!! Who didn't expect this??? EA is all about the math, not integrity, or quality. Profits are down, so they'll cut their spending. They've done it with every other outfit they've taken over. Look at UO. EA took over, and got rid of the OSI (Origins Systems who made UO) hired on cheap labor, and slowly drove the game into the ground. EA is about Profit to it's shareholders. This isn't some little company trying to turn a profit. What they make off selling 3 million copies of Warhammer is pennies compaired to their stock. They'll turn out Warhammer, and I suspect it will be great, because EA didn't get its grubby hands on it untill very late, but updates will be lackluster, the game will continue to change, and one day you'll realize this isn't the game you fell in love with. . Well aren't you inflammatory. Most companies outside of the Mom and Pop stores are all about the math. If profits drop and EA does nothing... EA goes out of business and you lose one of the biggest contributers to the video game market. There's nothing inherently evil about EA, unless you actually believe money to be the root of all evil. EA is solely interested in producing a quality product. Why? It means more money for them.
And as for WAR eventually changing? Of course it will change. Show me a game that ended the same way it began, I implore you. Its a lose-lose situation for developers; they can choose to either never release new content for their games and lose their playerbase in a few months, or add new content that not everyone will be happy with and gradually lose their playerbase over the course of a few years. I'm willing to stake a lot on the fact that WAR will be an absolute blast while it lasts, but no game lasts forever.

Wow!! Deja-vu!! Didn't this also happen when EA bought out Westwood? EA canned EnB soonthereafter. I wouldn't hold out much hope for WAR. EA doesn't know how to run a MMO.
My official prediction of the week: UO and DAoC will soon be on life support only. Any updates few and far between. Once EA has Warhammer launched, and Biowares' mmo ( whatever it may be )on the horizon, UO and DAoC will be allowed to exist until their population has been sufficiently reduced and then killed. UO and DAoC will see the birth of Warhammer. But they will only be a memory by the time the Bioware mmo launches.

I don't mean to be a party pooper here. But doesn't this put up a red flag to you guys? Seems like WAR just began to follow the same path as all the other MMO's that are barely hanging on. Firing people now? This is the same thing that happened to Vanguards, to UO and their whole team, now it even happened to Gods and Heroes. . .and I'm sure there are quite a few other titles out there.
I don't want to put all my money on it, but I think EA is maybe realizing WAR isn't going to be as big as they thought. Wait a minute people - you are reading way too much into this 'memo'. First, never trust anything that does not have a person willing to stake his reputation and name on it. Many people have been made to look like fools because of an 'unnamed inside source.' Second, assuming the memo is real - it is also a pretty standard procedure in any company. All J.R. is doing to keeping an eye on the bottom line. He is telling his people 'Hey, there are some fat cows in the company that need to be squeezed. They are costing us profit.' He is not dictating the levels of firings. He is not changing the scope of the game. He is not fingering Mythic specifically. This is a company wide order and applies to every studio the EA owns. Hell, he didn't even require layoffs though they are to be expected. In addition, this does not mean that EA is having 'money problems'. Instead, they see that their profit level is not where they believe it should be and steps are being taken to rectify this problem. It is what any respectable CEO should and has an obligation to do. As for the future of UO and DAOC - who cares if they kill them. Both games have more than run their course and have been very successful. UO should have been put to bed a long time ago - it has been nothing but a drain for some time. DAOC has been slowly dieing and there does come a point that it is not worth the little profit it brings in when those resources could be better used. Both are good games I had fun in but putting them to pasture would not be a bad call.
Why would anyone pull something that still making over 2 million a year. If you counting DAOC 15k subs each year they are still making somewhat a profit if you subtract game upkeep and playing your employees. I would take away about a million and a little bit. That would still leave you a million in profit a year so EA is doing the right thing milking the game for every little bit they can. Until they start to lose money then that’s when you need to put it to rest. But DAOC is still going so I guess they are still making profits from it. People get laid off everyday from jobs if it makes a company more money. I highly doubt it that EA is having money problems with all the games they made a killing from. The Sims, All the Maddens, All the NCAA Footballs and the list goes on. If anything if you see some weakness in your company that you can let go to make you more money. I got a simple phrase for that person you’re fired and have a nice day. Now will firing a few people hurt Warhammer I doubt it you are looking a muti billion dollar company making a game not some noob company.
