Best MMO memories

rcook16rcook16 Member UncommonPosts: 60

Ok so im bored out of my mind right now so just wanted to see what everyones best memories form their favorite mmo are. (Yes im sure this topic has been done a million times before but i never saw one so lets try to start another one.)

For me, my best memory from an MMO was from my first.  It was the last day of beta for Meridian 59 (About 10 or 11 years ago now). For the whole server it was just pretty much one huge party.  Everyone crowded around the streets of Tos talking about what they are going to do after launch and what not.  In the next zone over it was just pretty much all out chaos with people killing each other left and right just for the hell of it. Everyone was trying to figure out what server they were going to play on tomorrow.  The developers and guides where all there joining in on the fun. (It is still to this day one of the best times i ever had in a mmo, and im sure it would have been a lot more fun had i not been like 10 or 11 years old at the time)

Everyone feel free to post their best memories so me and everyone one else that is bored out of their minds right now can have some thing entertaining to read.

Probably in Lineage 2 when we took down a castle. It was fun stuff, took quite a while.

Probably the best memory for me was when Saga of Ryzom just went into Beta and I was invited. Playing with other players and the devs in a mature community was really a great thing. I forget how long the beta was but I know it was over 6 months or so and I was able to get my character maxed in a lot of things. Down to it I really enjoyed my time in that game and it felt good to come home and log on and have a bunch of people welcome you, there was just something about it that separated it from any other game I've played. Unfortunately everything comes to an end and P2P was announced. At the time I couldn't afford the subscription and had to call it quits but I will always have the great memories. Probably the best moment I could mention is when raids on towns by NPC's were introduced, for a bunch of us we were lvl 250 and it was still hard to combat everything in which made it very fun.

Haven't played retail but it was great in beta and has to be spectacular now.

My best MMO memory was in 2005 in Dark Age of Camelot when we had 400 man warzone in Albion frontier at Beno Castle on the Merlin server where everyone went link dead. Because there was so many people in one zone it was the most fun I ever had. Killing the 100 man warder zergs for 5 days straight. I really do miss those days.

My favorite memories... hmmm well first one on this post, may post more later lol

I started with some friends in EQ, started as a half-elf rogue in Kelethin, fought a little bit and got to 4th level, my friends were already around 7, and we headed to Rivervale with a high level druid friend of ours (via port), well, we started fighting (my friends beyond the wall, and I closer to town being only 4th level) and I got really bored seeing the same stuff running around (I was very very new to mmo's lol), a group of 5th/6th lvl people picked me up and we headed off to the far side of runny-eye to kill stuff in the gorge (yet again /sigh, I was new ...) the group did fairly well, but I never gained a level.  Still being 4th, and the group having split up, we were down to 3 people and were doing fine, then member went LD and me and the other rogue were left there alone...

We waited for about 10 minutes and the other guy did not pop back up. The other rogue said since he had just dinged 6, he was headed to Qeynos and was gonna do trash in Blackburrow... I said I had no idea where that was, and he said, don't worry about that, he could show me, so I stupidly followed...

We used a tactic of running in some spots, sneaking in some, and waiting in others...  we managed to go from the exit of runny-eye through the gorge, through east karana, through north karana and west karana, qeynos hills, then to qeynos itself while I waited on him to check his bank, sell stuff, and get trained...

Headed out to blackburrow, we went in and we played with trash for a bit, then he logged.  I was left there with no idea how to get back to rivervale, and a wanderlust problem.  so I decided to see what was further inside...

I went around different corners here and there, then kinda accidentally ran away from stuff that jumped me, and fell into a big pool of water...  fish started eating me alive while someone in the zone yelled "OK WHO STARTED THE TRAIN?!?!?!"  Then I died...

Popped up in Rivervale naked... all that gear my friends had given me was on a corpse in Blackburrow... I spent the next 3 hours getting my friends and a bard to help me get back to my body and get my stuff, then get back to where we were to continue playing...

My friends still will not let me live it down lol... Was a great memory!

I'd have to say one of my fondest memories in an MMO was when I trained a bunch of undead to the entrance of the Unrest zone and wiped out all the players waiting there looking for a group.  Man that was awesome

    pre-trammel Ultima Online.

My guild challenged another guild to a match to settle a score we had with each other.  We started winning so they started chain gating in a bunch of Tamers with dragons.  Fortunately we prepared for this and gated our own in and next thing you know there was an all out chaotic battle with dragons everywhere.  We ended up winning and they never accepted our challenge again.

Ok, so my first real MMORPG was Everquest.  I was living in europe for work and a guy I worked with had a copy of EQ and said it was amazing.  I didn't believe him, so I went over to his house one day after work to check it out.  He created a gnome warrior named "Elephant" and he let me try it out.  I couldn't believe that the world was filled with other real people controlling the toons.  This was the first few months the game was released in 1999 I think and only a handful of people where level 50, the max at the time.  Elephant was like level 12 or something.  I ordered a copy of EQ and had it sent to me in Europe the next day.

I got my copy of EQ and loaded up, and created a Druid named Siesmo.  He didn't play a few days so I could catch up to him level wise so we could play together.  I couldn't believe how this game made you "feel" for your character like it was real.  When he was getting chased, or killed or whatever by a monster you got a rush.

Anyways, my greatest MMO memory was at level 19 with Siesmo trying to get a major hand held item later to be used in a quest, The Testament of Vanear.  The guy who dropped the item was in some mine or something like a bandit town, I forget now, but he was a 24 hour spawn that every wisdom stat caster wanted.  It took me like a week to find out the spawn schedule of this guy, to figure out when to camp him.  In his off time my buddy roled a wizard to level 22 or something and was going to help me wait for this bandit guy to spawn.  So we get there, not an easy task at our level, and set up where we can get a quick target and nuke this bandit dead, everything is great.  Then after about 2 hours of just waiting and talking, other people started to log in their toons saying it was their camp and they had rights to it.  ????  You know how the story goes.  We all argue for a hour or so and someone calls a GM.  Now there is like 10 people at the spawn site.  We are the lowest levels by like 10 levels with some level 40s there.    The GM comes and basicly says what I knew he/she would say "first person to engage the MoB wins rights.  I'm figuring we got no chance vs. all these higher level characters.  GM leaves and now everyone starts talking crap for about 2-3 more hours staring at this one spot under a tent where this guy spawns.  Its 4am for us and its not looking good.  We have work the next day and are about to log off and all of a sudden the dude pops up under the tent and BAM BAM.  Everyone Nuked the guy at the same time and hes dead!!!  And on my screen i read:  YOU HAVE GAINED PARTY EXPERINCE!!! HAHAHA We won!!!  I got the item and was up at 4am cheering and screaming.  Me and my friend hugged the next day like we won the world series.  Such a minor thing in the big picture but it sure was fun that night.  Siesmo later got all the epic weapons and all the armor he could wear but that night because it was so new and adventurous, we had a blast.

    2nd that!

My fondest memories when i finally made it to Master Bounty Hunter (not many around at time) and i used to get alot of respect when walking around coro with the MBH title up....was even better hunting the jedi, i lost alot more then i won but it was amazing.

Then i used to be a doc buffing in coro....lag fest galore but u would do a two hour stint of buffing without stopping and used to make a couple of mil (which was good money back in the days)

So sad swg ended up the way it has :(

Another vote for SWG pre-cu. Master TK/Master doc... master rifleman/master CM. Man, what a disaster they did to that game.. a disaster you wouldn't notice if you did not play in the prime days.

Noteable ones would be faction wars.. base wars on Naboo were always great. Hell even vendor hopping was just plain cool. I spent a GREAT majority of my time just jumping from vendor to vendor. Dropping off hides, and such as I went to different armor smith/weapon smiths.

    RIP SWG

Same here Master Commando/Master Tera Kasa/ Combat Med here, best time I had gaming with friends by far.  Still remember the first day of playin like it was yesterday.  Its odd the things that stick out in our lives but the first time I logged into SWG will always be one.

Yeah man, the first day I played I remember trying to run to my friend and getting two-shotted by a group of thugs.. turns out he was just harvesting (without harvesters) lol. So the first few minutes of the game I was surveying and running towards him without any buffs, or defense..

Then I cloned to town to find a Droid Engineer, and discovered the Bazaar. Which was the shit back then. I ended up placing an order for a mouse droid which I would later find out to be completely useless aside from holding 10 items. I then went and farmed Worgs.. or whatever they are right outside towns in Tatooine. Made some credits and leveled up my pistol skill.. once I learned how to train up, I quickly became HOOKED on the game. Wanted to find the best combination of masteries for myself.. I am a major fanboi of SWG pre-cu. Like a lot of people out there.

I really wish they weren't influenced by WoW.

I would say the best time was my first Dragon raid in EQ when I hit level 52.  It was a freaking blast.  Although I forgot I bound there and 2 weeks later I gated back to the area with ice giants, they killed me more than a dozen times, I lost 2 levels before my character disappeared after pulling the internet plug.  Then I petitioned a GM they told me to log back in and I did, there was the GM standing in my mass of bodies with the giants  LINKDEAD TAG!!! ROFL.  But in the end they summoned me out and 100% exp rezzed all but my first body.

I stayed at that camp for 6 hours and fell asleep at my desk and when I woke up it was to someone nuking the guy, needless to say I sat there 24 more hours.  No game has kept me so addicted as EQ did back in the day.

EverQuest was my first one and the best memories are from then.

It was a huge, very dangerous and alive world to adventure in.

  • methulahmethulah Member Posts: 236

Yep, Everquest was alive. It kept me up at night, just wandering through the streets of Neriak, finding new little tidbits of lore and quest information. I loved how the level progression was so well thought out, and that the few travel options made the world so big, yet there was still so much one could do. We could always see what was one step ahead of us, whether it was by sneaking through a zone so we could get somewhere else, and wanting to go back to a camp in a couple of levels, or by simply seeing a bunch of guys ten levels above you nuking the hell out of something in Karnor's Castle, while you were grinding XP in the Dreadlands.

I loved it all, really. The world was alive with adventure, and there was so much to do. Fond memories, my friends, fond memories.

I also have to go with old-school EQ.  That game was just amazing!

My friend from work always talked about it & told me to get it.  Well, I didn't see any interest in a game I had to pay a monthly fee for, so I didn't bite.

He stopped by my house one day & he had bought me a copy.  I figured "Eh, free first month, why not...".

    Famous last words, right?

So I made a character, Ranger named Tegamal (as you can see by my screen name, it's a name that has stuck with me), & started my adventure killing bats & Orc Pawns outside the "Noobie Lift" in Kelethin.  I remember fearing the lifts, because my PC wasn't very high end system (AMD K-62, onboard video, 64mb ram & a whopping 10gb hdd), when I would ride the lifts up & lag, I would fall through them & die!

I stuck with EQ for 4 years before SWG came along.  EQ served me well in that time & introduced me to some of the best friends I could ever hope to find.  One of them in peticular has meant alot to me over the years.  We knew each other online for 7 years now & we first met in RL last year & even though I live near Pittsburgh,PA & his family lives in Virginia Beach, we try to get our families together often.  Good friends like them are hard to find...

    I found them on Norrath.

Put me down for SWG pre-CU as well.

Particularily before mounts and vehicles were introduced, and running was the only mode of transportation. It made exploration meaningful, especially when POI's were not listed on the planetary map.

  • haterhater Member Posts: 27

For me EQ1 was like the first kiss , i remember logging in , it was my first ever MMORPG , i stood there wondering what the hell i had to do  and as it happens the server broadcast it was going down for a patch  , i'll never forget that feeling i had of being a total noob in this strange new world with the wasps buzzing around and the orc pawns attacking anybody that got to close to them   'you ruined your own land's , you'll not ruin mine!'      ' centurions attack'

nothing has made me feel that way since and ive tryed most of the games out there at the moment.

Another thing thats springs to mind is DAOC , the RvR battles used to be simply amazing . nothing like defending your castle from 100 hibs or albs , i was a hunter and really enjoyed firing my arrows at people that got to close   great great times , i hope they make daoc 2 one day.

I have great hopes fro Pirates of the burning sea , it really looks like something i can get into , i just hope they dont ruin it in some way, we shall see.

  • JimLadJimLad Member CommonPosts: 187

I think most people will remember their first exposure, for me that was Legend of Mir beta. Running out and getting lost in the world, initially realising the freedom I had to go and explore.

But my best memory of any MMO has to be SWG just after it came out. There was so much to do and learn that I didn't leave my starting planet (or city) for a week. And then as soon as I did, I felt just like Luke Skywalker arriving in Mos Eisley for the first time, with hardly any money and no one I knew.

It was an INCREDIBLE feeling of adventure that has not been matched since.
