I think the OP is spot on with his assessment of Lord of the Rings.  Sure, every game isn't made for everyone.  I also agree every game has its share of some of the negative elements such as gold farmers, griefers, fanbois, etc etc.

I think the biggest point made in this thread is this isn't a hardcore game.  Once upon a time I used to burn through games then I learned the error of my ways and I play with a different approach.  It really should be about the journey through the game and not what awaits you at the level cap.

Lord of the Rings is a truly enjoyable experience from levels 1-50.  The class quests, the epic quests, the gear quests and such all make this game worth playing.  However once you hit the level cap there isn't a whole lot to do.  Helegrad is weak, the ettenmoors aren't as fun as they used to be and farming rep for a few pieces of halfway decent geat gets old quick.  Especially with people farming for shards and pushing you aside so they can go out and get theirs.  I remember saying to myself as I moved up through the levels "I hope this game never craps out on me"  Once I hit 50 with my hobbit burg I was bored to tears.  I was a GM tailor / prospector / forester with most of  all of the best gear in the game, a pocket full of money and a respectable rank in pvp.  I'm not much of an alt guy so that wasn't a viable option.  I was in one of the most respected kinships on my server.  As I watched our numbers dropping off after that god awful patch that put the creeps in godmode I realized there wasn't anything worth staying for.

Going back to the original point, all of the above things I mentioned were accomplished with me playing casually for about 2-2.5 months.  A powergamer could do all that in a couple of weeks EASILY.  I'm sure there are some people out there who'll claim otherwise.  Or people out there will say that there's lot to do after the level cap.  Every game has it's die hard fans and gluttons for punishment (I still have friends I can't drag away from FFXI to play something new, fresh and not so boring)  Just like the OP I want to give my opinion and help keep the masses informed.

Once again, before the flaming, Lord of the Rings is a good game, just not one to burn through.  I wish you all the best of luck.

    I just have one question:

The first thread got flamed and locked, so why make another one?

Just walk away man, you didn't like the game, that's too bad but I hope you find something for your tastes soon. ^_^

For the win!  Couldn't have said it better Cynthe.

That's still the part I don't understand.  Do people really think that their diatribe is going to magically make the entire player-base of a MMO just up and quit the game because they said so?  I just don't get it.

Surely they realize that not every MMO is going to be for everyone... right?  If we all liked the same games then why would there ever need to be more than one?  Perhaps we all have different likes and dislikes and there is room for everyone's playstyle?  Nah... couldn't be that!

    This is the internet

there is NO truth here, only opinions.

As for people bagging the community, complaining about gold-sellers etc...

State which server you are talking about, dont make blanket comments about the entire game.

Thank you for sharing your opinion with us.
    Now .. Go away.

You must play regularly so you have a group of peeps you consistently fellow with; otherwise you get ownt by the dismal community.
    2) The community in this game is some of the worst I have experienced. If your a powergamer (2nd player on Gladden server to max level) your going to but heads with other competitive powergamers and will be unable to really do anything about it (no PvP, cept monster play which is not taken seriously enough imho). If your a casual gamer who plays inconsistently you deal with lack of good fellowships or simply none at all. You can play for days on end with rarely any real interaction with other players and this is commonplace. Community is best summed up:
Rats (players who report you for everything and anything)
    Farmers (pretty self explanatory)
Griefers (players who steal rare spawns, nodes, try to cause grief in whatever way they can)
LOTR lore freaks (most are dissatisfied with immersiveness of LOTRO lore in the game so you will rarely see them)
LOTRO fanbois (praise LOTRO at any given time (there is definitely a good share of them on these forums) and seem to be happy no matter what the devs do)
Powergamers (players who try to accomplish everything and twink to the nth degree in regular play and monster play and then sit around being utterly bored until the next book update)
PvPers (most have quit or are doing monster play (on one side or another) until warhammer or age of conan release).
    3) Funny how many seem to think the once every two months updates are adequate. I played LOTRO since beta and I could literally predict almost everything that was gonna be included in any given update. They are sneaky mofos too...they will intentionally bug certain things that either once worked or were promised to be included in a given patch just so peeps anticipate it for the next patch and keep playing. I knew how Book 11 was gonna turn out and nothing surprised me in the least (I could go into detail but simply said the devs got way too predictible and I do not believe in griefing the player base which they seem unusually comfortable with). One major patch every two months is not so impressive given that they do absolutely nothing else between updates cept server maintenance.
I will be back later to add to this (life calls) but simply said this game is supposedly decent  because of the LORE, there is no real competition at this time, bs propaganda (using misinformation to bolster numbers), lifetime subscribers, and the fact that people will simply remain loyal to any game (the first gen mmorpgs still remain active with low player base).

You should know if you say things about a game you don't like there will be tons of ppl that love the game so much. Going to flame the hell out of you about there beloved game if you have something neg. to say about a game just keep it to yourself to stop all the flaming that going to come after it. Some people live for there game and will try to bash anyone that give there neg. points about the game. You have become that dead horse that everyone poke at til someone clean it up or just delete it.

It isn't so much negative post that cause people to flame those whow post negatively. It is the assumption that they are speaking a truth that applies to everyone. When what they claim is the truth is nothing more than their opinion or only the truth for them and maybe some other.

If the OP would of said "This is the truth about LOTRO in my opinion" He would not of been flamed so vehmently. I know i would of just read the post and moved on and not posted that he was posting just an opinion and for me and my kinship there is no truth in what he said.

No one, including turbine, ever said it was a hard core game, in fact, they said the complete opposite.

So what’s your (and the OP's) point?

When a hater says: "this game is not fun", "this game is bad", "this game will die very soon" etc. with such enviable confidence, this is what irritates everyone who plays that actual game.  Partially because their "unversal, factual truth" somehow does not apply to these people (they still play the game, and suprisingly to trolls, enjoy it as well...), but also because these are the people who actually know that game - unlike the hater-folk, who has left some time ago (or never even played) this game.

The same can/could be told about people who'd be constantly chanting how LOTRO is the second coming/is the perfect MMO/Game of the world. This is also not true.

I have always said this, and I will leave this board if you find me ever saying anything else: I like this game, because it suits ME. Not everyone. Therefore I am not saying the game is "good", as in. goodness general. It is fun for many, many people. Not for many others - and this is how everything works in this world.

This last FACT (that nothing is for everyone) is the one that some haters constantly forget. I hope you got the point now!

Exactly...LOTRO does not suit us...so for every time you get to say the game suits you, we can post how we believe the game does not suit us...pure and simple. So, tell me why OUR words are more viable than say a "fanboy"?

You say the haters ...when they post the game sucks...you believe we mean for everyone ?....

I am sorry but your argument here has no merit...and it is due to the fact that you take each "bad" comment about the game and make it personal..

The words are spoken from our mouths and pertains to US...not you...and just like the "lovers" have every right to come here and say how much they like the game, we as "haters" as you lovingly call us, have that right as well..

Here is a simple example for you...

I say "Mmmmm...this Hot Dog is yummy"

Now...according to your argument..I have just told you this Hot Dog is good...and now YOU must like it also...as I did not say ME...period...end of argument....

I say "OMG...this Hot Dog sux..."

Now...according to your argument..I have just told you this Hot Dog is crap...and now YOU must hate it...period...end of argument....that I believe EVERYONE thinks this Hot Dog sux by not using the words ME in the sentence...

    Now, let ME say...

"This game does not run well, the UI is poor, the animations are not well done and the quests get boring"...

So, finally...according to YOUR argument...I MUST put ME somewhere in that sentence..or else, I am talking about everyone...

Yet, I did not say the Hot Dog sux for ME...yet, you should have understood the context...as it was said by ME, it pertains to ME...And the reason I post is for ME...

So, the post pertains to ME, and you can take it how you like...as an opinion of the game...period...it is an opinion...just like the comments about the hot dog is "Opinion"

I think it is pretty clear...and my thought is...if YOU hated a game...you would not argue with another hater...but you would argue with a lover...

Example?...the wonderful poll about EQ2...remember that my friend? Just because I said EQ2 ran better than LOTRO...you then had to create a "HATE" poll just to prove me wrong somehow...because you could not believe for a second that it ran better for me...I would call that a "hater"...as you "hated" EQ2's performance...

Welcome to the Real World...does this now mean you will leave the boards? No...and I do not expect you to...you know why? We all need each other.,..Law and Chaos, the universe revolves around it...and the future will be better for it...I guarantee it..

    Cheers!

And, you might wanna check the results on the EQ2 vs LOTRO performance polls - in both games's forums. Have another fun day at work :)

Fair enough. As a general rule, I think its a good idea to assume anything written on these forums is the poster's opinion, unless they are supplying links to dev posts confirming it or some such.

I guess I just think more on the content of the post than the OP framing it as "facts", since obviously having read the post, it would be impossible for anyone to think the points made were facts applying to everybody.

EDIT: We have a real nice quote tree going, heh.

Yep, I agree with you on this (also on the too long thread :)

A classic example of not understanding this point is openedge1 and his posts :( - they are overflowing with opinions stated as hard facts (AgtSmith is quite the same btw...) it is just a coincidence that (with LOTRO) open. seems to have outspokenly joined the haters. If he accidentally loved LOTRO he'd probably be the worst hardcore fanboy :))

Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is.

    You are close.

But a closer example would be if you went to Oscar Meyer's web site and posted a thread there that their "Hot Dog sux..."  and then you told them that Ball Park Franks are much better and they are just too dumb to recognize that their "Hot Dog" is just  a poor copy of the real thing.

Then you continue to post there on a daily basis reminding them over and over ad nauseam about how Oscar Meyer is such a loser company because of their marketing and remind the posters at Oscar Meyer's web site that you have as much right to post on their web forum as those who are fans of Oscar Meyer's hot dogs.

That would be a lot closer example.

That would be a lot closer example.

Yet...I can write a letter...to Oscar Meyer, tell them their Hot Dog Sux, and I want my money back...and guess what...I would get a refund...even if I had to write that letter OVER and OVER...it would happen...

I do NOT get a refund for time wasted on the LOTRO pile of poo..

    BIG difference...

So, as long as Turbine took my money..I have every right to state my feeling about LOTRO...the product I paid for...that gives me the right to state how I feel about it...whether it is here or there...my choice..

Because I paid for that right!

    I'll let my example stand.

Obviously there are some things that are different between how software is treated as opposed to food.

Glad you finally came out and said how you truly feel about LoTRO though.  Perhaps that is the first step in your healing process.  I'm glad we can all be here to help you through this stage in your life.

A MAJOR example is also someone who attacks another in their post to get their point across..

    Example: Noted above with DonnieBrasco

This person for example will not have any valid counterpoints to postings made by the noted individual in their post. So, it is easier for that person to "attack" said individual..

Making statements as if they were facts (as noted in the sentence "it is just a coincidence that (with LOTRO) open. seems to have outspokenly joined the haters.")

By making this statement, DonnieBrasco has (in their own mind) validated their argument of haters making statements like they are facts by making a statement of their own like it is fact, and doing what they have blamed the individual for...

    Sad!

    End!

Remember we are here for you in your time of great turmoil.  It saddens me deeply the pain that Turbine and LoTRo has caused you.  If there is anything we as a community can do to make the healing process faster... just let us know.

Great post!! Truer words were never typed on any forum before!! If I had a dollar for every self-gratifying, narcissistic, blow-hard who thought their opinion was from God's lips that I encountered, I would be as rich as the Hiltion's.  These people remind me of The Comicbook Guy from The Simpsons! And these types aren't just found on MMORPG.com's site. They are on just about every forum.

Yea, totally true. This is why it's so entertaining to be here, to piss these people of on a regular basis :) Not that it will ever make them think or re-consider their godselfish beliefs, but it is still fun to counter them and confuse them on a regular basis :)

     DB

Is it safe to assume you three are talking about everyone except yourselves? Or just anyone who doesn't like LOTRO for various reasons?

No, I'm talking about people here who claim their OPINIONS are TRUTH you do understand the difference don't you? I have my opinions about SWG, VG and many other games but I don't go around stating that my opinions are truths that apply to everyone as the OP did. Do you believe your opinions are truths that everyone must bow too? If not then I don't see your problem. If you do then yes you are one of the people I rant against :)

Still wondering where you came up with your assumption. There are tons of LoTRO hate threads, you'll notice I haven't posted in most. So your arguement that I'm posting against anyone that dislikes LoTRO is just silly and not really based on anything true or factual. Try again, really you can do better with your attacks.

      Have a nice day

You know what they say about when you assume?

Define truth, now define opinion. The two are not generally the same thing. If you tell me something is a TRUTH as the OP did, and indeed its not then IMO your lying. (YMMV and notice he's not posted since which IMO means he just started this thread as a little flame bait and then abadoned it.).

I will agree that the Op poorly worded his thread title...

But, I also am intelligent enough to know that as I read his thread, he does not state that these are your truths or my truths..I can sense it is his words about how HE feels.

His words do not have enough power over me to make me feel anyway actually...As an example, he did not use my name..openedge1 ....specifically to get his point across...which means he has nothing to say to me specifically...

This lets me know it is only his opinion...and nothing more...and he has a right to state that just like anyone else for that matter...

Love the game? Tell us why? Hate it...tell us why...as any intelligent person will finally make their OWN opinion based on their readings...

    Simple really!

Take a movie review...do you read a review and feel the reviewers opinion is the same as yours, and that he is forcing your opinion or that it is even truth?...not all the time...right?

    So...read this line...

""Dan in Real Life" is a really good drama about finding love at the wrong time and in the wrong place, causing all sorts of family drama and issues."

Hmmm...so, is this sentence stating this as fact? No...I can already tell it is someones opinion...but how?

Because it came from another's writings...so, I have ALREADY relegated this writing toward it being this reviewers opinion....not mine...

Now, if the LOTRO fans could do the same in the MMORPG forums...it would be a better place for discussion...

But, sadly...not so...as it becomes an "attack the poster" fest...sad really...

Lets hope everyone can take to heart that

    1. People like this game

    2. People hate this game

    Period!
