i would like to say one thing to the OP, and anyone going on with him.

The most popular MMO in the world currently, was unplayable for the first two days due to them not being rdy with there servers and the lag being so huge, i remember it since i was there and it was the same problem with the stress test and was worse.

Unlike many other games where you don't get to do ANYTHING when the servers are down, at least you can still opt to play the single player game.  :)

Just calm down, servers will be up when they are up - no need to get stressed, it's not like this is a new thing to MMO players.

Mxmissle you are right we would never let any other industry sell us products that are not ready for sale ... hummm..but what about all them recalls in the news ... guess we are letting all the companies sell us junk... so its not just the gaming industry but yes gaming companies are the worst, i think couse it's easy to just sell a beta game to the masses and just patch up later on.. well that is the way it's been for years now  and i don't see it changing for a long time....

It was stable for about three hours.  Then it crashed and burned and many people's characters started back at level 1.  Yeah, so I sort of cancelled at that point.  :)

Oh bawwwww. Seriously people, do you have nothing better to do than bitch at every chance? Here's an idea, if you hate the game so much, grab your box, take it to the store, and stop playing, and gtfo.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

It could also have something to do with the fact that designing a massive multiplayer game with millions of lines of code is slightly more complex then assembling a toy truck.  :)

I doubt there is anyone on this forum other then maybe myself that has ever launched a live service like this and my launch was rather smaller then this one I'd imagine.   There is NO way a company without limitless budget can build and launch a game like this and be 100% certain that it will be smooth sailing.
You test it under load, you imagine everything that would stress the game, you take every precaution, you build extra capacity, and you keep a stash of emergency stuff.  But no matter how much you do there are always possible things that you didn't anticipate even in the best designs.
Right now the tech people at flagstaff are gathered round scrambling to fix the issues and will work non stop till this is resolved and likely will be working on it for days and maybe weeks till all the issues have been worked out.  Depending on the problem they are working on hardware or perhaps even software with everything they got and sweating and swearing the entire time.
Don't forget these same people have no doubt been working round the clock already to get this product out the door and now the worst has happened and they will struggle to work though a very real hell to get to the light at the end of the tunnel.
And it is so frustrating to see people come on and scream about how crappy the game is or bad the launch is.  1 game in 10 comes off smooth and frankly the ones that do got lucky or weren't very successful.
So take a deep breath, play the single player mode and give them a break.   They will fix it in a relatively short time and you will be online and having fun.  In the mean time thank all your gods that you aren't them and move on.

    Exactly

I am pretty sure if people want to complain on a forum based around games that is part of the purpose of the forums. Who then is more annoying the person that complains about a game on a gamers forum or the person complaining about someone complaining. I believe in telling some one that they should shut up or return the product is kind of the pot calling the kettle. If you dont want to read people complaining don't read forum threads that are obviously full of complaints.

K that said i am gonna complain to, the last week has seen the log in feature of hells gate London down while they prepare for launch, why then not just launch, not have a launch then another  launch hallowen stuff a few hours later thats just plain silly. I also agree with what someone else said if they are having issues then give us infomation, informed customers are much less annoyed. The website saying nothing is stupid i could build a website in 5 mins that gave an explaination and i am an internet moron.

Yea instead of a 404 not found page.. they could just put up a basic thing with an apology and explanation. Don't even need anything to click on. I know the page said the information earlier... but now there's nothing, and people just logging in will be confused and sad.

Can cause some people that don't know about mmorpg.com forums to think they went bankrupt or something.

The website did explain everything. I don't know what you are talking about. Everything from it going gold and patch 0, to them pulling down the servers till release, to them explaining they were taking servers down to patch content for all.

What have they failed to inform us about? if anything their blog says more than I care about. I mean wtf, who cares about the hg:l jeep and where it is.

I think that would be the Beta engine.  If you have the new version of the game that you get from local retailers, or purchased online and had delivered, try uninstalling your old Beta version and install the retail.  The one you have for Beta was specifically to test server load, and multiplayer facets to the game.  The single player "Demo" was a separate download made available that was not a proper representation of the game.  The retail version of the game contains a proper launcher and splash screen with options for both.

Like I said earlier (which was surely ignored), it's a chain reaction.  Think about all the people who bought the game who didn't bother to check the website.  Now the servers are down and they are going to the website to find out why.  Thus, the website becomes overloaded, and lots of people are unable to connect.

Pretty sure my account has problems
But, hey, Hellgate: Vanguard is now live!

Be nice. It's opening day and problems are to be expected.

Read a book and click Refresh every once in a while.

    QFT.

All games have problems on launch day... and nothing... nothing can ever be compared to VG, that's for sure ;)

That's simply not true.  Not all games have crappy launches.  DAoC's was pitch-perfect, despite the large numbers.

Accepting the crap and disrespect these game companies feed you on opening day is simply contributing to the problem.  Have some balls and quit taking the crap they're feeding you.

Quit being ignorant. Not everything goes on perfectly. That's life, accept it, QQ more, and move on.

WoW was/is considered the most successful MMO and it had a rocky start.

The guy above me put it best, quit crying like a kid who didn't get his Halloween candy.

.. But in a good way.

daoc had some problems with individual zone crashes

I am told the best first day launch ever was wow. but I wasn't there to see that

  • FatherGonFatherGon Member Posts: 22

Wows first day had minor lag issues.. and they did ALOT of stress testing.. that was a big help

  • DreadlichDreadlich Member UncommonPosts: 597

Looks to me like they have hardware issues. Possibly circuit problems. Not sure how you'd expect them to notify you of anything in that case.

WoW had an absolutely terrible release constant crashes and insane lag is not what i'd call the best ever (Persisted for about 5 days till the servers were down for 2 days [Extended server work heh, overhaul more like it for how shitty it was]) then it went pretty smooth. I'd say LotR:O had best release because of their transition from beta to live. They essentially had their live going in beta and just continued on. Was a great roll over. None the less that isn't important.

Guys. I will get my hands on the US-Version on Tuesday earliest. What shall I say ?

    Chill !

Perhaps it´s not a bad thing after all. By then all should be fine.

Have confidence in Flagship. Remember how smooth Diablo ran for years and years.

    And btw:

I remember quite well that Vanguard had a good release. I was registered and on 20 minutes after launch and all rejoiced and it was well.

Can´t you play the single player portion of HGL while you wait ?

Get going ! Kick some Demon-ass.

  • The-RavenThe-Raven Member Posts: 234

    LOL

Does anyone here remember playing Diablo 2?   It is the reason I have this game, but do any of you remember the black wall of death....the down time....the launch...the black wall of death...the down time...???

Did it make you quit the game?  Nope, me either.

This game looks like plain ol stupid fun.  Lots of shoot'n and loot'n so bitching about this as "disaster" is disrespectful to the very meaning of the word.

Go read up on your character build...think bout the loot you will adorn yourself in...do quick single player games and experiment with builds...there is so much more positive things to use your gray matter for.  :)

I was there for wow, and to be honest it was much worse then this.  There were lots of server outages, when the servers finally got back online you'd have to wait from 30 min to two hours in a queue, and IF you finally got back in the game before the next restart, you had loot lag that took you more then ten seconds (and often more) to loot any creature you killed.  Eventually I just stopped looting lol.  Some may think I'm exaggerating, but I can assure you I am not.  Also, some servers had it worse then others as time went on.  Naturally, this was due to the fact that Blizzard was expecting five hundred thousand to a million customers, and got like 2-3 million the first day!  So all servers were just massively overloaded.  Actually, the problem really surfaced about a week before when open beta started.  Before that (I was in two stress test betas before open beta) WoW was silky smooth with amazing gameplay (and plenty of people to play with).  Compared to pre-open beta, wow release was amazingly trashy, but it didn't hurt the game a bit.  It's too bad that they reduced an otherwise spectacular game into a carrot on a stick raid fest.  :(

Wow's situation is not what's happening here.  Before the servers went down (for a patch!), they were quite stable with relatively little lag.  So to say that this first day is a disaster is really in my book an incorrect view when taken in context to other MMOs.  If server outages continue, then a valid reason to complain exists.  Until then, I see no reason get bent out of shape about it (as many people in this thread have done).

If you need something to do, read online news, check out news for your favorite movie or TV series, go to Youtube and search for that 70s show and watch episodes for hours, pop in a movie, read a book, take a walk, go to a haloween party, go to a bar and play some pool, or just about anything else you may find of interest.  Just get your mind off the game till it comes back.  :)

I was there for the launch of WoW and it was nothing close to being called a smooth launch. It was more bumpier than the road outside my house, which has about 30 potholes. Lotro had a smooth launch only because there servers were live before there actual launch date, allowing pre-orders to get a little ahead. But before than, mostly in open beta is when they had alot of server issues that they immediatly fixed. So all in all they didnt really have that great of a launch because they never really launched anything. The most smoothest launch to date and as even been talked about by developers of other companys was Dark Age of Camelot. There only downfall was some zones were crashing, but you could still login and play. And it also was fixed almost immediatly. THis is why so many people are clamming over WAR. Because they know WAR will be nothing short of an excellent launch as long as EA is 300 miles away and let Mythic do the job.

WoW was a nightmare at launch. Blizzard had to keep giving the subscribers free days on their subscriptions. It took them at least a week to make the game playable.
