Bioware is known for making RPG's. Just thought I would make a list of things that we are going to see at launch that SOE couldn't figure out till well into SWG's lifespan if at all.
1. Space battles- Star Wars and epic space battles go hand and hand. I wouldn't be shocked if we got personal ships, capitol ships, and a better space combat system than that JTL shit at launch.
2. A true Master/Padawan system, it's cannon it can't be ignored. This would be a great community feature and really immerse players into the game together.
3. A combat system that works, SOE still hasn't figured this one out. Something tells me that Bioware will get it right though. It will be turn based, and it will be deep. I mean cmon it's Bioware for christ sakes.
4. Players will actually effect the story of the game. KOTOR is pretty uncharted territory in the Star Wars universe leaving Bioware to weave a tale that everyone of us will be able to effect in one way or the other. Bioware will not be shackled by the cannon of the movies so it's gonna be a free for all:)
5. Now this one is a possibility but I'm not certain of it because few developers have the balls to do it. There is hope though considering alot of Pre-CU devs are working with Bioware Austin now. Skill based leveling. I think were going to see skill trees like we did in Pre-CU SWG and were going to be able to mix and match our templates again. The only reason this did not work in Pre-CU SWG is because SOE devs do not know how to code, balance, or test for a shit.
6. A true Jedi vs. Sith faction system........nuff said.
Well thats all I can think of at the moment. I think the list above is definatly going to be in the game at launch. I mean cmon, it's not like SOE is developing the game or anything
Post some of your ideas!!!!!!

I would like to see you do better.
I wouldn't be so sure about that. Just because your precious Bioware is making the game, it doesn't mean that it will be perfect.
Or is this a sarcastic post? It is hard for me to tell, because you are a pretty convincing fanboy.
Anyway the list is things we will see at launch because Bioware is actually a good developer of games. Unlike your SOE who seems to take a dump on every IP they get their greedy little hands on. Want to go down the list................................here we go
1. SWG
2. Matrix Online
3. Pirates of the Burning Sea
4. Vanguard
5. Star Trek Online( yeah I know it's years till release but now thats SOE is involved we all know it's gonna blow)
6. Everquest 2.................even though Everquest 2 is the most succesfull MMO in SOE's stable it's still shit. God could you imagine what Bioware would have done with Everquest 2, now that would have been a worthy sequel.
Thats pretty much all I got, 6 games that should have at least 500k subs a piece but are instead circling the drain. Now I want you to go into Smedely's office and tell him you just got pwnt and do not want to come into forums you don't belong in anymore. Damn SOE employee's
Well Foliot considering that KOTOR won game of the year when it came out, and SOE games have won Coaster of the Year awards for the last 5 years........SWG taking that honor 3 years running by the way. I'm fairly confident that my precious Bioware will do just fine.
Dont be so sure about Bioware's competence in the MMORPG genre. They havent shown anything massively multiplayer yet. Their last game (NWN2) was mediocre at best and their recent sale to EA doesnt sound very promising for ppl expecting a sandboxy, deep persistent mmorpg. Look at how EA is managing WAR.
Seriously, thats your post. I'll give you 2 minutes to try to figure out what is incorrect there and fix it before I make you look foolish.

I agree with huxfluc. As much as I would like bioware to make a terrific MMO, we cant know if they are capable of it. Designing an MMO is very different from designing a singleplayer/multiplayer game. Lets wait until we get something solid before we pass judgment, shall we?
Make me look foolish. Please!
I'm guessing the other guy is referring to the fact that Bioware didn't make NwN2.
In other news, if Bioware makes swg2, I'm sure the story, plot, characters, etc will all be top notch. The thing that would be of concern to me is rather that Bioware has made a huge amount of single player rpg's, and almost all of them, in the history of Bioware, have been imbalanced. Nobody really cares in sp rpg games, so it never mattered, but in an mmorpg this might be a problem.
Alright times up........Bioware farmed out the development of Neverwinter Nights 2 to Obsidian. The only real part of the game that Bioware was involved with was giving Obsidian the Aurora engine and technical support for said engine. Much like they did with KOTOR 2, which we all know was inferior to the original KOTOR which was a fully Bioware developed game.
Why did they do this, glad you asked. Bioware wants to develop there own IP's by farming out games like NW2 they free up their development teams to give us mindblowing games like Mass Effect, their fisrt triple aaa franchise. While a KOTOR MMO is not an original IP, Bioware would be stupid not to realize how much revenue a new Star Wars MMO with their name on the box would bring them. Revenue that can be used to develop more of their own IP's.
Oh, and any contractual agreement between Lucasarts and Bioware remains between them. The EA buyout of Bioware does not officially happen until January and Lucasarts and Bioware announcing that they have been working on a project together last week pretty much tells us that the deal was in place long before EA ponied up the loot.
I hope you feel foolish now
Obsidian, Bioware and Atari worked closely on NWN2, sharing the responsibilities of dev, marketing and production. They still manage the NWN franchise and Obsidian was under their close supervision during the development. The bioware logo appears on the site and the box of the game.
Now explain to me how that made him look stupid. It had nothing to do with Bioware's lack of mmo experience.
They did NWN1, not 2, they passed the rights on, yo.
So what is Obsidian Entertainment's role in the game building process? Well basically, they're the workhorses on the project. Obsidian will be overlooking all design, art and engine improvements, as well as being responsible for the story, the content and pretty much everything else in the game.
Yeah that sounds like they all worked pretty closely together.
BioWare will have a hand in the development of Neverwinter Nights 2. They have already provided Obsidian with the Aurora engine to build the game on. In addition, since they are most familiar with the Aurora engine, they will be providing technical assistance in using the engine to its fullest, and will also be looking over Obsidian's milestones and giving input to keep the project in line with the vision of the original.
Yeah Bioware did a ton of development for NW2......if you call picking up the phone, calling obsidian and asking if they are still on schedule development.
From the minute that Bioware becomes property of EA, all Bioware contracts management belongs to EA. Dont expect anything else other than a mainstream, money-making title from Lucas and EA. Both companies are well known for their bad corporate manners and their ignorance of the player communities they relate to. Lets try to remember who was behind the NGE. You trully not believe it was SOEs initiative, right? Especially when SWG was at that point the most popular MMO. The IP was Lucasart's, and they wanted the NGE in order dumb down the game (which was really hard-core) and try and get more customers in combination with the then upcoming release of Episode 3.
It would be naive to believe that EA will exert no influence on the upcoming LA/Bioware project (whatever it is), in fact, EA could decide to scrub the entire thing if it suited them. (something they are famous for)
Regardless what the game turns out to be.....we're likely to see it not much sooner than 2012.... and thats too far away to really worry about at this point.

I suspect I'm not alone in that I'd be quite happy if it were a "mainstream, money making title", it's more than SWG has ever been able to say.

Before you start making assumptions about what will be in the BioWare MMO, you should do two things.
1) Read the interviews they've given about it to date
2) Read the brochures for what the Hero Engine is capable of doing
I'm not going to repeat things I've said in other threads here, but suffice to say too many people are making wild assumptions without taking into consideration the facts that are known about the MMO, whether it is Star Wars or not is irrelevant, we do know quite a lot about the MMO already.
Come back when you've done your research into it, and it's due out in 2009 btw.

Id definately welcome a game that I dont have to pay to beta test for 4 years.
Are you trying to prove yourself wrong? From what you quoted everyone understands that they outsourced NWN2 but they were responsible for the whole thing
...will also be looking over Obsidian's milestones and giving input to keep the project in line with the vision of the original.
Does this sound to you like a friendly, kind relationship? Did Bioware give NWN to Obsidian as a gift? As a sign of true love? No mate. They outsourced it because for some reason they could not, or did not want to develop it themselves. They still wanted to keep the credit for it though. And since NWN1 was their most successfull title, it was a very bad decision. They have the whole NWN franchise connected with their company logo, but unfortunately NWN2 did not prove to be a good game.
Furthermore whether Mass Effect comes to be a good game is completely irrelevant. What is relevant is that they have done nothing to improve their experience and involvement in MMOs. Dont expect an amazing title from a company with no experience in the genre. The processes needed for the development and operation of a MMORPG do not exist within Bioware, and it is going to take many years until they are established and optimized. And this means a crappy first product.
Yes, and WAR, AoC and Gods and Heroes are due out in 2007. No way they are going to finish an MMO in less than 3 years.
From and interview with the CEO of Bioware on the merger
GS: People are now wondering what is happening with some of your properties, specifically Mass Effect, which is due out next month. That's a wholly owned BioWare property, correct?
GZ: Yes, it is, and it's almost done. Ray and I have both played it! There's other stuff too, there's Dragon Age, there's the Sonic RPG we're making with Sega, there's what we're doing down in Austin, and some other secret stuff as well.
Wholly owned by Bioware, that means EA doesn't get there mits on them. EA will however probably get future projects like the Mass Effect sequels, and Jade Empire. Games like Sonic and the Austin project are pre-existing deals though and will remain Bioware exclusive. Not EA/Bioware.
EA does have a checkered past though. and I would be a little wary of buying any EA/Bioware games that are developed outside of the games listed above. LA on the other hand gave Bioware alot of free reign with KOTOR because the time period is set so far away from the movies and other expanded universe cannon. I wouldn't be suprised if they did the same with the MMO considering how much money the first game made them.
Only time will tell though, and on the whole LA developing the NGE and pushing it on SOE. I don't think we will know exactly what happened until the game is long dead. It should be an interesting story though.
Dude, if you gave a company a GAME ENGINE and a few pointers. Wouldn't you want to get a kick back of the profits?
We totally agree here
Apart from that Bioware had nothing to do with NWN2.
I am still the foolish in here?
