I think that as long as the new guy is environmentally friendly, Arnie shoudln't have a problem with him
I'm also curious as to why Arnie's word carried any weight. Does he own some kind of rights to conan or something?
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
I hope who ever plays conan is someone totaly new to the movie industry but also got talent and looks like conan supposed to look like. I seriously hope its not Vin Diesel or The Rock. And I thought Arnold played a good conan mostly because he looked the part and he didnt have many lines. Now all we need is a Action Adventure game for Red Sonja and a new movie for her.
Problem with Arnold's Conan character is that he didnt have many lines and presented Conan as a dumb brute. I hope they dont make that mistake again!
Hmmm all the maps of Hyborea put Cimmeria in the location of the British Isles, and due north of Aquilonia (France). Also, REH, himself a Celtic enthusiast, considered his Cimmerians to be ancestral to the "Black Irish". Note also that Conan is an Irish name, and Conan swears by Irish deities. What about 'Triple H' guy? or Russel Crowe if he was beefed up a bit ? or Vin Diesel? Eric Bana? Brian Thompson?
Now although i wouldnt want to see russel crowe at Conan for my own personal reasons, have you see 3:10 to Yuma? theres a part in the end when he shoots his own guys and stands there, even with the old-style long-sleeve shirt on, HE IS FRICKEN HUGE that man has to have gunboats under that shirt
oh and to the people who said the rock? if you fell in a well and cried for help, i probably might maybe just maybe would kick sand in the well, mutter about 'the rock' in conan, and leave you for the next guy, if there is a next guy, lol

imo wows movie will be better then aoc's but u never know ><
I would only watch WoWs movie if they had Sean Connery as a Tauren.
The only way.
"I'll take Swords for 100 alex!"
"Uhh Mr. Connery thats S-Words, words beginning with the letter S."
"Thats what I said, Swords"
sean connery FTW, he should also be in Conan just out of principle

A 2-3 hour movie will never be able to truly capture the energy, complexity, and excitement of the Conan character. I always thought a HBO series of Conan would be far better since they have experience in creating bold shows. The creators of Rome would be perfect for creating a Conan series imo. Any fan of the books would most likely be disappointed in a single movie. If you have not read the Conan stories, I highly suggest picking up a copy of The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian and you will see why a movie will never be able to do the stories justice.

I disagree if you look at the Lord of the rings movies i think thay captured the feel and story of the books very well thay did it beyond my exspectations, so in my opinion its very much possble but you will need a good studio and directror and actors and then in my opinion it could be possble even in a singel movie.
Playing:World of Warcraft. Played:Lord of the Rings Online, Starwars Galaxies. Tried:Starwars the Old Republic, Everquest 2, Guild Wars, Vanguard, Age of Conan, Aion.
Steve Buscemi would be perfect for the role of Conan.

Note also that Scots lived on Ireland before coming to Scotland. Also note that Scots, Irish, and Welsh are all Celtic. And when people talk about Black Irish, i would think the would more likely be Middle-Eastern Semitic looking peoples as opposed to Negro. As there is a tribe of Arabs i believe that were found to use a language extremely similar to Gaelic.
Thats right mate, I'm English too my country has been at war with them all in the past as I learn't at school lol
Black Irish = A person described as appearing with dark brown or Black hair as a Causican person of Irish descent.
Even though Conan is set circ 10,000 BC and carbon dating puts Human on Ireland 7000 BC there is a bit of a difference lol, but its the way the Conan was wrote in the original context that gives the celtic feel moreover in his nature as well as looks. (dark hair and all). The Gaels are the people you spoke of who originated in Ireland and moved to Scotland and Isle of Man but people were in Scotland before the Irish came I see they speak gaelic where your from, or in that area I used to live just inside Wales at one point where they were quite a few gaelic speaking folks! Billy Connolly and Sean Connery are both Irish-Scots or Scots-Irish.

The people that stayed in Scotland prior to it being invaded by the Scots were called Picts. The Scots were a tribe of Celts known to the Romans as Scotii and controlled most of Ireland, they invaded Scotland pacified the Picts and colonised it. The majority of west and central Scotland are Celtic mixed with Norse, the east coast is mainly Pict, the capital Edinburgh was an Anglo-Saxon city. I stay in a town called Forres about 40 miles east of Inverness, all the road signs are in English and Gaelic. I'd imagine that Wales and Ireland would be similar. I just think that with them apparently trying to be true to the IP, even if they use an American for the role of Conan that he should use a Celtic accent. It worked for LoTR, look at all the Americans in that and you don't hear an American accent once. And for the guy that said Butler was camp in 300, go read up on the Spartans. They encouraged homosexuality to create stronger bonds between the soldiers, in fact i believe it was even law in Sparta for a man to take a male lover at some stage. Then after so many years service you were allowed to wed a female. Imagine Butler from 300 without the beard and having longer hair and thats Conan.
Well put Harg. Its the same in Wales too with the road signs.
Gerard Butler did a really good job in 300 and would probably make a good Conan.
You're kidding right? Gerard's acting style is him trying to expel his own teeth out with the force of his own hammyness. I kinda agree with the other guy who chose The Rock, he was great in the Scorpion King, and who cares if he doesn't have an accent? I'm pretty sure Ancient Greece didn't have Scottish men either right?
Listen here mate, i disagree with him using his Scottish accent in 300 but he looked the part and could do Conan better. He has the build and accent for Conan, Conan as i have said is meant to be Celtic so the accent would fit and be more true to the IP.
As for The Rock, he would make the movie too cheesy.
I know the Rock isn't the greatest actor, but he's my top cheesey one.
But seriously you're look at Butler just at his accent and build, and not his acting talent, I mean come on, he looks like he has a chronic constipation problem through most of 300, Gerard would just ham up the movie in my opinion. Just like how The Rock would cheese it up :P so I guess we're even, but ya to agree with you Vlad would be the best out off all those choices.
I also think they shouldn't use bodybuilders because if they are going to make this movie I'd like it done with passion and great enthusiasm from the creators/writers/directors and even the actors themselves. I think if they found people to do this who actually care about portraying Conan properly it would turn out a much better movie. I think if done really well it could rival Lord of the Rings.
LIke some of you posted, I'd also like to see a smart, cunning and "fitting" conan. A muscle bound brute with little or no dialogui is not it. If anything, have a ligtly built person portray him. Make him look as if he is the way he is because of lifestyle and not because he went into the woods and bench pressed loggs till his biceps were bulging and his veins were popping. Make him a fighter, an experiences fighter in a multitude of weapons but also show his ability to improvise in situations.
I guess this is good to start with. As I get more ideas or figure out how to properly articulate my thoughts I'll be able to come up with better ideas.

This was on a Christmas Card from the Original Film > Pretty Neat eh!
With a new film should come a new Logo, Conan the barbarian was had the Snakes and the logo with the snakes in centre. Wonder what we could expect from a a new story this time. I think the old logo has stood the test of time and is still neat today.
Yeah, as i said earlier vladimir would be a perfect choice. First time i saw The 13th Warrior, in the scene where he sits in his chair poisoned and weak, it hit me like a lightning bolt! this guy should play Conan...
But...
I noticed that its Millennium Films thats behind this productions...first I laughed - then I cried. Millennium film have given me many vile movie experiences! they gave us "Snakeman" FFS! All im saying is that; dont be surprised if one of the Baldwin brothers comes along and yells "By Crom!" -no joke!
I was thinking that maybe they can get that dood that played Sabertooth in X-men (Tyler Mane) to do it. I'm just throwing this out as a random suggestion. I wanna see where it goes.

Okay first off, anyone who thinks The Rock or Vin Diesel are good choices to play Conan, needs to gargle broken glass and be forever silenced, as well as castrated to avoid infecting the future with potential like-minded progency. I don't care if you're only 13, and think those two talentless doucheheads are 'so awesome'.
As a cult figure, i agree that Conan should be played by an unknown or near-unknown actor. Preferably one who has the right accent for the job. He needn't be a hulking hunka man either. When the 300 pounds of "i'll be back" made the first movie, he had trouble performing the swordsmanship maneuvers because he was so big. True story.
So yes on the obscure actor, yes on the accent, and yes on the 'slightly less than the Mr. Universe build'. As for the Rock and Triple X, the 4 minutes i spent reading those posts is time i'll never get back
Yea Vladimir Kulich would make a great Conan. R. E. Howard's Conan wasn't 280lb and 6'4" He was big, but he was more a 'classic' strength, not a body builder strength. This actor is tall and powerful looking but not build like Arnold in his prime.
That and I do hope this time around they stick with some of the original stories more then the comics. While the first Arnold Conan movie was good, even it didn't follow the lore all that well, and was more based on the late 70's comics then the classic stories.
Have you ever seen a Frazetta painting of Conan? Have you ever READ any of the orginal Conan stories where REH describes Conan build, or where is preforming feats of strength?
If you have, you might re-think your comment. All the paintings show Conan (and the written) as a riped, huge man. Go take a look..alot of pics on the net of Franks work.

Haha!

I think the most important question is. . .who are the women that play in Conan?
I hope it does turn out to be a good film though, I'll probably see it.
