I'm tired of boring none complicated mmo's. I hear vanguard has more? and is there a Trial?

I really need to get out of switching to a new MMO per week finding them just another boring grindfest with no complicated tradeskills and such.

I read some reviews and it looks like VG is worth a shot but I wanted know if anyone has a buddy key/trial key I could use. I would like to see and make my pc can play it smooth since some people with great hardware tend to have different issues.

Thanks

No trials, and it very unlikely you will get a buddy key.

And I haven't  hear yet a single relevant post that this game is not working well on high-end computers.

There is nothing complicated about Vanguard. Its just as simple as WoW or EQ II, with no kind of choices anywhere in the development for your character or playstyle.

The ONLY complex games on the market are EVE and Anarchy Online. Semicomplex would be Ultima Online and... and... No, SWG is not anymore, but at least it was.

ALL the rest, including Vanguard, are just EQ clones, one class, one skill, one progression tree, simplistic no choices walk in the park playstyle. Please don't listen to the Vanguard fans in this regard, they want to feel they are playing a more "mature" game than WoW, but the truth is, Vanguard is closer to WoW than it is to EQ.

Vanguard is a WoW clone. If you've played WoW, you've played Vanguard.

The only real difference between it and every other MMO is the diplomacy card game (like a cross between Uno and Magic). Unfortunately, it's pretty boring after an hour or two.

Are you out of your mind? How can something be labelled as WoW clone when WoW was a clone and a complete ripoff of Asheron's Call 2 by itself. In fact VG has much more samiliar appeal to EQ2 and EQ1 than WoW. What a ..

I played WoW for a couple years and VG in beta and a couple months after untill the game was just to painfull to play anymore. VG should never have been released. It's still a pay to play early beta.

Do you even play the game since beta or since the first few months of the start? From what I seen many things improved though the population looks a little low....

Why for the love of god is someone who played beta and then a few months saying it's still pay to play beta now when it's 11 months after release therefore 8-9 months after he stopped subscribting to it.

I've never quite understood the notion that complicated = fun.

    To me, complicated = frustrating.

    Say things like:

looking for a "challenging" MMO or a MMO with "depth"

    instead of "complicated."

but asking for a complicated MMO to me means asking for "a MMO that is tedius, not user-friendly, and not well designed for accessability"

I mean, I'm not trying to say Vanguard is any of those things, I actually really liked the game but it was just tooo buggy and choppy when I played (beta) and I really hope it's come along very far since then (heard it has) because personally, i'm waiting for the "re-release" and trial island before I try VG again...

but, to me "complicated" means advanced mathmatics... not fun.

but having depth and being challenging, that's fun.

btw saying "I hear vanguard has more?" sounds funny. Has more what? Complication? "I hear Vanguard is more complicated?"

Is that really a good thing? The challenge and depth should be in fun and gameplay, not accessibility, user-friendliness, and tedium. IMO

It would help if you people who claim this game is complicated give us some examples on how it is. And by complicated I mean that it takes more than the average intelligence of a 13 year old to be succesful, which seems to be how it is in 99 % of all MMORPGs.

Best advice I can think of is just to wait till SOE releases this planned "free trial isle" which hopefully they will do.  There are those that are going to praise Vanguard no matter what, those that will relentlessly find negatives with Vanguard, & those inbetween.

I had bought 3 of the CEs before launch, but after launch returned 2 of them unopened & still have 1 in hope that one day Vanguard will be worthy to play beyond the lowest settings.  With the "free trial isle" I certainly plan to rejoin Telon to see how the game has improved which I am pretty sure it has.  But I try not to be burned twice by things.

Vanguard was released too soon, gave us unkept promises, but SOE is working to make it better.  A lot of the postings about Vanguard is just a matter of perspective.  Again, it might be best to just wait for the "free trial isle".  If SOE doesn't release something like that for potential players &/or former players then that tells us something about the progress of Vanguard right there.

Well, I don't usaully reply to quotes, but since you used such colorful letters I will reply once then head to other boards. I have a station pass. I checked in  a few weeks back and its still the same clunky game that it was at release.  They, (Microsoft, Sony, ) spent 30 mil in dev? where is the the 30 mil? Since release ,  the the subscription has dropped from 90k to under* 30k.  http://mmogdata.voig.com/ and that is just to August. From August to now I have heard the scripts are down to 20k or lower*.

So, that is why I say it's a pay to play beta. A fun beta to some it may be, who have the rig to try to run it.

Whats your definition of complicated? Vanguard is NOT complicated.  Combat is the same as any other combat system in mmos (auto target, auto attack, Hit your special combo move) Very standard.  Crafting well its crafting. Maybe the only complicated thing about the game is diplo and takes some time to learn.

Trying it is the only way your going to find out if this is truely what your looking for.  Vanguard is not a bad game, its just NOT complicated.

EVE is probably the most complicated MMO out there if that is truely what you desire.  I don't play EVE atm but from past experiences it sure made me put my thinking cap on when I tried it.

  • truenorthbgtruenorthbg Member Posts: 1,453

In my view, four factors distinguish Vanguard from the other "non-complicated" MMOs.

    1)  Time

    Things take longer.

    2) World

The world is big and hard to get around in.

The World is also quite interesting, beautiful but under-utilized.

    3) Death Penalty

The Death Penalty is harsh.  You lose your corpse, experience, and your gear becomes damaged.

    4)  Lack

It is lacking things such as character customization, fun stuff such as fishing, a workable and fun PvP system, and much more.

WoW and fast food = commercial successes.
I neither play WoW nor eat fast food.

What is so complicated with EVE? Select target, turn on weapons, fly in circles.

What is complicated with any game around?

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Ok now I will admit that was a stupid question... lol EVE/AO prob one the most complicated games out there... Hell just the crafting system beats all others... and then theres the gearing and tweaking part shit even more complicated.. then theres there skill system.. seen all the skills in ao? frigan make me cry sometimes... and EVE shit crazy!

so don't bring that shit up.. I really don't like AO much now cuz its old and not much happening... and Eve was never my taste though I did play till I had 10mil sp's
