I just went to the Tabula Rasa forum and there are no posts visible there I guess because it recently got moved into Released Games? Anyway I came "this" close to buying it at Target yesterday but then I remembered the negative press it was getting here from some of the beta players so I'm probably gonna resist until a free trial comes along.
So retail Tabula Rasa players, thumbs up or down?
Thanks!

I give it a thumbs up...but it really depends on what you are looking for.
The game is pretty relentless with no real downtime to speak of. Also, it's not your normal MMORPG...in fact, take the RPG off there.
It's really a warzone, that's it. You fight, fight and then do some quests which really consist of more fighting...however the fighting is FUN.
Control Points where players fight for control of certain areas against the Bane are also fun with wave after wave of enemies coming at you.
However, I can see how some people won't like the game but I belive that's because they come to it looking for a more traditional, social MMO which TR definitely is not.
Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed my group experiences within the game but socialising isn't really what the game is built for. Saying that, I do forsee some good squads developing which could provide a social aspect.
Overall, the game is good now and in my opinion will only get better. Just don't expect WOW or EQ2.

I think if you take the time to enjoy the game and what it offers instead of rushing to max level, you'll get your money's worth out of Tabula Rasa.
Clan vs. Clan completely open PvP is very intriguing to me, as is the continued development and implementation of base capture and control vs. the Bane.
I would have to say no it didnt.
I wouldnt recomend this game if your looking for a long term fix . The game is good just not good enough.
i played eq2 for over a year on and off and WoW since it came out , city of X l2 saga of ryzom even vanguard ! (vg far far worse by the way) but this game i think you either love it or just dont find it interesting enough to logg in.
There is no goals in this game apart from reaching the end class in your tier tree. The skills were lacking despite what the certin fanboys on here Will say or try mislead you. This game just gave me the distinct feeling of BLeh whats the point past lvl 16. The zones i was in the first 3 i forget there names were all the samish looking aswell i never get the wow cool look at that kinda feeling .
I mite check it out in a few months im glad i forked out the 5 euro for the prelaunch thing on plaync because i would most definitly have regreted paying 60 euro and a 15 euro fee for this.
I wouldn't pay for it. it's like Auto Assault but you're a human.. LOTRO is better than TR if you're looking for an MMO.
Sorry but don't waste your money. It doesn't offer anything original except the genre and combat system. Even those elements of the game aren't that great. Use your money on something better to waste your time on like the first season of Heroes.
Did it meet expectations? No way it could, so no.
Practically everyone playing it raves about how fun it is. Gaming sites are giving it good ratings. Really the only opposition I've noticed to it is on these forums. They have their reasons for being bitter. I'm sure they'll be happy to list them all again for the 100th time though.

The game is good. The beta was not. You'll find most people that don't like it never actually played the release. Also a lot of people here seem to have external reasons for disliking the game. (It's not SWG2 or they dislike Richard Garriot's speeches or Sci-fi games or the style of combat etc.) Very few of the complaints are really problems with the game itself.
My point is it's a fun game in its own right. If you play it without a chip on your shoulder about what you think it "should've been", the chances are good that you'll really enjoy it. How long that'll last is anyone's guess, but I don't think you'd regret buying it.
Thanks all for your replies. I think I'm suffering from MMO withdrawal so I broke down today and scooped a copy. Well at least I'll be able to check it out. The longest MMO I've played was Planetside (18 months) which seems similiar to this. Maybe it will tide me over till War or AoC or maybe I'll become a raving fanboy. :P My expectations today regarding new MMOs is very low.

I've been playing a bit, have a lev 8 char and so far am liking it, but not loving it yet. Seems like all the early quests are gathering or kill quests. Go kill x baddies, go talk to so and so, drop of supplies, you know the drill. But Im am enjoying the combat system, much better and engaging than most mmos.
Still need to get a few more hrs into it to explore the other aspects of the game as well as try pvp.
So to answer your question, yes so far its meething my expectations, just not exceeding them yet.

Couldn't have said it better, without some of the reviews in this forum, I would have never got it after playing the lackluster beta. But its damn fun.
It didnt meet my expectations, mostly because I expected it to be a silly FPS shooter with no real depth or character customization, lacking lore. But in fact the game is highly playable with a rich and detailed world-lore with one of the best character customizations (that a class-system can offer). It is as fun as a sci-fi light MMORPG can possibly be.
REALITY CHECK
Exceeded my expectations. I haven't had this much fun gaming in a long time.
Really good game from what I have seen so far.
I'm really enjoying it too. Thought it was crap in beta and laughed at its impending failure. I've turned 180, though, and am really loving it now during retail!
As for longevity - who knows? As long as I'm having fun while I'm playing, its money well spent.
Absolutely, don't care if it sucks in the endgame, the journey is the fun part for me.
Ask me when Clan CP pvp is in, until then leveling is fun
Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!
I didn't do beta. I didn't know what I was getting into when I bought this game.
I'm almost level 20 and haven't slept much at night for work. The game is really fun to stop playing.
Just a hunch, but I think you might want to reword that

I started playing Tabula Rasa expecting a decent blend of FPS action with RPG elements. I have not been disappointed.
Two thumbs firmly planted down. I had high expectations for it, and in the end just got a run and gun shooter with zero depth. Hell, even the logos, which could have been a very deep and interesting feature, end up just getting handed to you in a series of weak fetch quests. I would seriously wait for a trial, because for all the potential I saw in this, the actual implementation was a complete letdown.
Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.
EAT ME MMORPG.com!
thumbs down
it's a shallow confection of a game, tasty at first, then leaves you wanting something more substantial failry quickly
the skills are thin on the ground and functionally useless until t4 (firearms and the t3 armour excepted)
the logos system is poorly implemented
you rapidly get tired of killing the same mobs, over and over and over and over (repeat ad nauseum)
the interface needs love
the endgame nonexistant
some will like it, some won't, I was pumped during early beta, then watched the fun get sucked out of the game as the devs swung the balance from WOW! to MEH!
basically it's not worth paying full price for - if you are going to get it, I'd suggest picking up one of the discounted copies from the sites listed in other threads, and then revisit your feelings for it shortly before your first subscription payment is due
One thing seems to be trumping every single negative thing people have to say about this game.
People are having fun playing it.
In the world of gaming, is there anything more important?

Thumbs down.. echoing what the others have said. And yes I was very dissapointed as well.
Just wait until the free trial. I'd spend the money on something else in the meanwhile.
Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV
Two thumbs up! Finally a game that has the long lost element... fun.
