If all the FFXI fan started to send "e-mail" to editor with information coverage i am sure they will add more FFXI news.

these editors does not seem to get pay from the website master. This site started very small "as i was one of those earlier members back then joinned (forgot account name XD)".

Hence, the editors might not have the ability to cover any news other from websites and players.

Knowing SE.... they love kept everything hidden. Hence, its quite possible that these editors can't even keep in-touch with SE for any information while maintainning enough news.

MMORPG.com is a community not a company, hence if players doesn't support them then they can't operate for that community.

Bottom line, if FFXI needs/wants more press coverage around here, maybe SE should hype their game a bit more.

    Exactly!

The last month I've received several newsletters from SE. Guess what they were about: ACTION FIGURES! Yup, that's right, not a single word from them about any game release, and I was expecting to hear from them about the newest  expansion!

    About the expansion:

I have an active FFXI subscription, and since the news broke in May, I've almost been counting days till the expansion's release. But, I don't have it! The reason? I cannot find a freakin' place to buy it! The few web shops I've found who lists it, are sold out. And Norwegian retailers tells me their suppliers can't provide it, which is EXTREMELY rare...

SE is not offering any digital download options, that's freakin' unbelieveable!

So, unless I get a copy soon, I'm cancelling my account. Playing without it is not an option, since "everyone" else is, of course, only interested in doing new contents, which basicly leaves me alone.

    About coverage here:

I often receive e-mails from mmorpg.com about new articles and reviews. Guess what almost every e-mail is about? Yeah, that's correct: WoW!!  Makes you wonder if Blizzard bought this site...

If you look at all the advertising on this site, some developers obviously keep pumping out the news articles to keep the name to the fore front.

You can't come to this site without seeing LOTR somewhere.  Most of the news notifications are about lotr.  A lot of it, meet the elves, meet the hobbits, meet the balrog, lotr will have housing, lotr has housing, lotr devs will discuss housing.

They are effectively marketing their product.

SE doesn't market that way, and honestly, I'm not sure final fantasy would appeal to the masses like other mmos.   I think you have to really take time and get into ffxi to enjoy it, and nowadays a lot of gamers are more into instant gratification.

I found lotr insanely easy.  Nothing wrong with that, I really enjoyed it for about 6 months.  It was a nice break from FFXI, and now I appreciate FFXI all the more.  However as easy as LOTR was, I was amazed at how many people asked for PL type of help in our ls.  'Can a high level walk me thru books 1 - 3?'   The epic story was interesting, but people just wanted to get thru it rather than enjoy it.   I remember helping a ls member with book one after he complained about his group wiping for the third time.  He had 5 people should've easily been able to complete it (I soloed it at that approximate level with my minstrel, and soloed it on hunter a little higher).   No way should they have failed it several times, but they didn't pay attention, wandered around.  They had no clue how to work as a team.  It was sad.

That was one instance, there were a lot of people in lotr who DO know how to work as a team and are excellent players.  This is not a knock on lotr, but I think people's approach to MMOs is very varied, and lotr/wow hit on a mix that appeals to a wide variety and allows people to basically not play well or put as much effort into the game as others, but still enjoy it.

There are different niches.  Final Fantasy is not that niche.   Though I do think they have been making changes to reduce the timesinks, improve the fun without sacrificing the core of the game.

I do think if more people understood the richness and depth of ffxi, more would enjoy it.   On first experience it doesn't  necessarily 'Wow' you, but as you live thru the story, it has a lasting appeal.

It's not going to appeal to people who want instant gratification for no effort.

FFXI has more suscribers than many of the other mmorpg on this site and still gets little to none coverage.

Sorry, if my english is bad, im still learning it.
btw, today is the release date of WotG.

Errr... FFXI, for a very niche MMO, has a pretty healthy player base - which SE has consistently placed at between 500-600k players from year to year.

    However...

That is not nearly the most players of any game on mmorpg.com. Really need to either research your data better before posting that kind of thing.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. It is known, and has been for a very long time that FFXI was originally designed for the PS2 and was ported to the PC - this explains its "wierd" interface, its lack of a native Windowed mode, the limited resources it has to use, and various other details. It also explains why they haven't upgraded the graphics as PC power has increased, or with the 360. They are restricted to what the PS2 can handle. You need to do a little more research there.

Plus it was very annoying when I hit a button like + ((my push to talk for years on TS)) I starting typing in chat. I had to redo not probile.. But the way that was set was annoying, you can't get tells or see Link says when you zone..
Mountains and molehills. That's something that you find personally aggravating. Most others deal with it just fine, by saying "Zoning..." before they do. It's been that way since launch and people have gotten by just fine.
No Square didn't make the best graphic for any modern game.. That was in NES-SNES games but now.. They make great gfx best but the best? lolz..
    Opinion.. opinion.. opinion.
Sqaure let FFXI die, IMO it was great game for like 1-2 years before it went to hell..
Let it die? You realize they have maintained a consistent player population for years? You realize they have just released a new expansion that adds another 30 or so areas (old Vana'diel re-built to how it looked before the crystal war).
You realize they just added two more jobs, after adding 3 in the last expansion? You realize they continually keep adding more and more to the game, more "event-based" content, more gear, more areas, etc. etc? Continued substantial growth and expansion on a game is not a sign of "death".
The game may have "died" for you when you lost interest in it - but it certainly is living on and doing quite well enough for others.

You really should check this better before coming with silly assumptions. Maybe the FACTS about the release dates will give you a clue:

    May 16th, 2002: Japanese relase on PS2

November 2002: Japanese release on PC, 6 months after the PS2 release.

October 28th 2003: US release on PC.

April 2006, 4 years(!!!) after the JP PS2 release: 360 release, global.

Do you really think the content updates, the fixes, etc was NOT updated for the 360 release? Oh yeah, if you need the dates confirmed, you may start here: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XI

Heheh.. Thank you. You saved me some typing. Was going to do the same thing.

Sadly, there are some for whom that still won't be enough.

Now that the WotG expansion has been released, I wonder if BradyGames will publish an up-to-date FFXI strategy guide and atlas in the future.
