Can someone please make me a sig. I would like it to have something to do with an eagle(the bird) Somewhere near the eagle can you put the words "Global Defense Initiative". Could you also have the line "If you can't buff up, don't step up!". Thanks!

To be honest both are good in their own ways.... but from seeing the videos of both EQ2 and WoW and actually getting to see the WoW world with the hacked beta WoWs graphics are amazing in their own right. EQ2s graphics are nice but seems like it would cause alot of lag in really crowded areas just like in SWG (coronet for example). But you really cant judge a games graphics by screen shots cuz they are usually taken on the highest compter the company has =P

Im a fan of both. I love games with an animated look to it. It gives it a feel that makes the game fun. But i also like the realism. Although EQ2 doesnt have an actual "real feal to it" it satys true the way the characters looked in EQ live. They wern't cartoony but more of a  seriouse fantasy so to say. Im not saying that WoW is cartoony. WoW is actually very colorfull and thats one think i hope to see in EQ2.

It is basically saying that when you run down the list of things to argue about, you jut go back to the top. That's basically what a lot of people do and it gets pretty annoying. If your not here to start an arguement, I am sorry for jumping at the conclusion.

WoW to answer your question. If I want something that real, I will go outside. If I want fantasy, I will go to WoW. What is important is finding a good balance that is well balanced. Meaning you should go outside more than play videogames.

I am all for eq2's graphics, but not for the characters though they do have a lot of detail.  I like eq2's landscape, the beautiful water, the amazingly detailed ground, the cute little destroyed moon in the sky, the detailed and awesome looking buildings. That is what i like about the graphics because it allows me to look around and feel really immersed in the rich, beautiful world. That also is why i do not like WoW's graphics.

Well, I personally like WoW's artistic flavor (Blizzard has stayed true with the fantastical style for 10 years now of Warcraft) and it's more pleasing to look at (like a stylistic painting).

EQ2's graphics, however real they may look, is probably going to be the games downfall. No one will have good enough graphics to run it and so no one will have it look as nice. Also, due to the high poly count, the lag is probably gonna run the game into the ground (much like it did SWG).

Personally, I believe a fantasy game should be all encompassing. What I mean is, it should suck me into the world as much as possible, and pretty, realistic graphics typically do that best. For that reason I am behind EQ2 as graphics go.

WoW is obviously trying to maintain the appearance set up in Warcraft 3. If that's what you like, great. As I see it though, it's like reading a great book, but with less descriptive words. For some, these extra words make the story a slow read. I think it's what makes it good.

"and the trees block out the sky"   or "and the thick forest of pine trees, lush and green from the regular rain showers, swayed slightly in the wind and shadowed them from the sky above".

Or at least that's how I see it. :)

A book is far different from a game. I still see the comparison, and I have never looked at it that way before. The reason I like WoWs graphics more is possibly why I would rather play SNES over PS2 sometimes. It seems that recently, people want their games smothered with "real looking" graphics, even is that means slacking off on the gameplay.

Take on of the most well known game franchises in the world, Final Fantasy. In my opinion, Final Fantasy VI, SNES Japanese version, and Final Fantasy VII are much more imaginative and fun than Final Fantasy X. It seems like they used up all the time and money on graphics and forgot about the storyline unil a week before the game was released. It seems as if oday, if you have good graphics, you get bad gameplay, and if you have mediocre graphics, you get great gameplay. A lot of people may disagree but thats just how I feel about graphics and how they tie into gameplay.

Besides that, EQ2's graphics are positively stunning. But when it comes down to which I am anticipating most, it would most definately be WoW for the reasons stated above. I am sorry if I wasn't supposed to bring Gameplay into this. It just seems like such a low blow to some L2 fans when they are arguing about graphics and then I talk about gameplay. Oh well.

But you should think of this... FFVI and FFVII came out YEARS before FFX, and yes, those two were way better than FFX. But EQ2 and WoW are coming out at the same time, and EQ2 is just going that extra mile to deliver more than WoW. I like EQ2 more.

  • LoStCaUz3LoStCaUz3 Member Posts: 1,154

EQ2 is also going that extra mile to guarentee that no normal person would have enough power in there computer to play the game with out lag. WoW will be easy on the computer because it is using a some what dated engine that has been proven to work on most modern computers. EQ2s engine is just like drawing straws. Either you  have a computer that will work with the game, or you will have to buy a new one.

Oh well, the graphics are awesome, but it seems like thats the only good thing going for it so far. All I know is I am tired as hell over arguing about this so I am going to play Final Fantasy VII and watch I love the 90s. Good day to you! LOL

They tired the same thing with Eq1, as you are saying, some people said they were crazy, but it paid off alot in the long run.  We'll just see how it affects the success of the game.  Yes i know, it is 5 years above any computer out there.  I am willing to buy a new graphics card to play Eq2 though, its well worth it. image

Honestly, i like WoW's graphics for an entirely different reason than realism. WoW's graphics are going to be easier for older computers to process, and i really cant afford to run out and buy a new $250 graphics card.

For realism, EQ2 definately takes the cake, but as was previously mentioned, either in this topic or others, its going to cause a lot of lag in crowded areas.

WoW just looks more fun! =P

WoW looks much better. It has style and just looks great, while EQ 2 trys to be realistic but fails. EQ 2 doesn't look horrible (well, the characters do). I just don't see what the big fuss is about.

WOW is too cartoony, I hate cartoony games.  I may try it but only as a last resort.

I like realism in games more then cartoonish style, because it gives me the feeling im actually running in a 'readl' world. The advantage of the cartoon style is that it is much more harder to critisize because you can 'technactly' not do it wrong, realistic style will always be compared to the real thing and that is much easier to critisize.

Hmm i donno, something about the eq style kinda reminds me of a game called mist, also it does not suit the genre, i prefer the WoW style

Okay we see this one over and over again in these forms...so here is my two bits. WoW will always and has always had sort of a cartoonish fantasy to it. So have many other MMORPG's out there, but thats what makes WoW diferent. EQ2 is building up a game of an highly popular 1st game and needs to justify why people should come to this game. A big part of it has to be realism for them, WoW hasn't had any other online game to follow and graphics aren't it's necessity. The Graphics are great, but I admit EQ2 is more fine tuned. Big deal to me, I like what WoW is becoming as a game better.

Also I hear that WoW will play on just about any computer and not be a memory hog. EQ2 is so high end in it's graphics, the average player can't afford the system to run it. What's the point to a game that alienates a large portion of the online community, just on graphics alone. It's great to have cutting edge graphics, but will anyone see them, on their average to low end system? Not everyone can go out and by a mega bucks system, just for one game. IF this is true, Blizzard has more foresight that SOE, for preping everyone who wants to play, no matter what system they have.

im going to have to say i enjoy both of the games graphic wise. Im going to play WoW and i enjoy its style because Blizzard has really stuck true to what Warcraft is suppose to look like. EQ2 i will honoestly say is jsut amazing, the detail shown in this game would fry my GeForce Asylum ^_^ so i will say the graphics in both games are great in their own way, but you should never judge a game by what it looks like

Am I the only one here who doesn't care as much about graphics as about having fun? Graphics are the cover to a book, but I care more about the content. What intrigues me the most about WoW is the almost endless number of quests that can be run. I'm also more interested in how the controls are set up and the rules to the game. One example is I don't like to be penalized that hard for dieing. Having to fight to get back to my corpse that died deep in a dungeon just to get back the loot that was left on the corpse gets old quickly. I like the style of WoW and having a ghost go back to the corpse. I'm leaning on playing WoW right now. I wish their were free trials for both WoW and EQ2 to make a better formed decision.

I've seen that video and yes the graphics are very good. But I'm still not sold on the game until I actually play it. There is more to a game than graphics. I did not like EQ so have a natural skepticism about EQ2. It looks like it may be a very good game. But I've loved every game Blizzard has released and know they've put alot of time in WoW. I'm inclined to go the WoW route first. If I'm disappointed or become bored, I will give EQ2 a shot. I still hope I can get into Beta or have a free trial first before I plop down down my money.
