Just a silly question , is this list based on overall hits , thread topics , advertising money sunk into this site , or just general info? Its got alot of good game , but some are confusing to me..
Hmm, good question
If it works like most other places that do these types of choice awards, I think the writers of mmorpg.com get together and pick what they think was most relevant to each topic. I could be wrong, but that's how others normally set up the choices.
I Reject your Reality and Substitute it with My Own!
Personally, I would really have liked to have seen "none of the above" for most all categories. This vote is not unlike the vote for offices here in the US where one is basically asked to vote for the lesser of the two evils. This year has sucked as far as mmo's go. It's either been more of the same or a whole lot of hollow claims made by developers far and wide. Hopefully next year will prove to be better but who knows eh?
How about a category for best and worst companies, customer service, etc etc etc.?
I too am very disappointed about 2nd life being in the vote.
Heh, funny thing driving home, I heard them talking about how second life works on the radio. Anyways, second life has a really small presence on mmorpg.com, but like I said above there are millions of people playing second life....11 million from what they said on the radio. With that kind of presence in 1 game (free too btw) mmorpg.com can't ignore it.

I think you guys need to first have a nominations thread or something. The issue with the games on the lists pops up every year.
I agree, let us whittle down from the list on the left and then open it up to the elections like you have now. I was a bit disappointed on the selections this year.

11 Million thats fine but youtube has also millions of users but that doesn't make a GAME of it. It is more a meeting platform....and I stupid guy thought the voting was ment for games
I don't understand why Second Life was on the list either. <shrugs>
I also would of voted none of the above on some.
Finally I wonder how this years awards will go? Last year EVE swept a lot of catagories making people wonder if it was "rigged" or if the staff here plays favorites.
Lord of the rings online has best chance to be mmo of the year compared to the others, It had one of the most stable lanch in mmo history , well polished dungeons, great story, wonderfull grapichs and very few bugs, now thats something you don't see in every mmo.
Playing:World of Warcraft. Played:Lord of the Rings Online, Starwars Galaxies. Tried:Starwars the Old Republic, Everquest 2, Guild Wars, Vanguard, Age of Conan, Aion.
MMORPG.COM should have kept the "none of the above" option for statistical purposes so they would get a more realistic idea of their readership's actual preferences.
A "none of the above" vote would at least indicate that they didn't feel any of the games in the category were acceptable, instead of forcing them to choose the lesser of the evils.

I disagree whit this if that would be so then it would be almost every year none of above since the user base on mmorpg.com are generaly prety negative, and a "none of above option" is kina stupid imo.

Whether they are negative or not, they could either vote for the game they liked or register a non-vote "none of the above".
It would show statistically that X number of voters preferred this game, that game or none of the listed games while maintaining a total of everyone who voted in each category.
So instead of people either choosing a game in a category that they really didn't think deserved it OR not voting at all, you would get a tally of every single vote.
Example:
220 votes for X game 313 votes for Y game 68 votes for none of the above
Total Votes: 601
Rather Than:
220 votes for X game 313 votes for Y game 68 visitors who did not vote because they did not want to choose any of the available options
Total Votes: 533
The resulting percentage would reflect exactly how popular a given game in each category really was based on the percentage of positive votes against the total of all votes, including non-votes.
It's just like voting in an election.
If all of the votes, even those for none of the above, are tallied, it broadens the percentage across the board.
Rather than showing a candidate won X percentage of the vote based solely on the cumulative of votes for or against them, it shows the actual percentage of the popular vote that they received based on every single vote, even those that were neither for nor against.
So while it may not have an impact on whether they get elected or not, it will still show how much actual popular support they received.

Everquest II should really be included in the nominees for "Most Improved Game" as it has seen the biggest turn-around since release of any MMO....ever. Seriously, EQ2 as it stands now is 100x a better game then on the day it was released.
You should really have an option for write-in votes in each category to make things more fair and balanced

I agree completely, they never should have eliminated the "none of the above" category. In fact, I purposely threw my vote away on VG in the first question (best new game of the 2007?) just to keep the LotRO fans from becoming insufferable. But none of the above was still my choice.
Sorry LotRO fans, but claiming the top spot in a year of zero competition is hardly an honor.... more of a booby prize..... sort of like winning the Daytona 500 because all the other big names in racing decided not to show up until next year.
Still, I was forced to vote in several categories where I'd rather have chosen none of the above or skipped voting due to a lack of any real opinion. Best paid expansion....I played none of them, so I voted for the EQ 2 one, but why, I have no idea if any of them were good. (except for TBC...I knew that one was bad)
In the end, if EVE was on the list I picked it.... because ...I'm playing EVE atm...makes sense I suppose....

I mean really... it's like IRC with porn, how much lower can you go?
Every time I read your post, I die a little inside...
Second Life isn't an MMORPG, it has no place in a vote about MMORPGs. Ryzom is missing from the non-Fantasy section. Even though it's in receivership and some idiot here classified it as Fantasy, it is in fact either Science-Fantasy or full Science-Fiction. As for said idiot, what were they thinking? "Oh hey look, swords and 'magic,' it must be fantasy...I'll just totally ignore the facts that the world it takes place in is very clearly a planet, one of the factions centers around a high-tech spacefaring EV-suit-wearing higher-power, etc."
As far as I know, TCoS is the only MMO that doesn't take place on a planet...
My point was that most MMORPGs' lore doesn't explicitly state it takes place on a planet, just an ambiguous "land," "realm," or "world."
As for Second Life, what makes it so popular is the freedom of building and designing that exists in it. It's like a museum of what happens when people are let loose in a 3D environment with the tools and opportunities Second Life has. It's only human nature that has made "porn" so prevalent in that 3D environment. But there are other things, like a Buddhist sanctuary, a Star Trek museum, a recreation of one of the Ages of Myst Online: URU Live, a tower full of tutorials, etcetera.
But SL is not a game, it has no inherent gamelike mechanics.

to do - none of the above (several times) - i just clicked to the next page without voting
as said above, the lists of games available to vote for did seem very limited
Wish I could've voted for Dark Age of Camelot...oh and also..
