You know, I haven't worried about losing my account info ever since I ticked the "Remember user name" box in my profile... The only thing keylogger gotten beyond that point can ever get from you is your password :S
I'm sorry that I have to make you worry. But as far as I know, none of WoW keyloggers are real keyloggers. They won't log the keys you press, they just steal the login data WoW client sends to the WoW server. And that "Remeber user name" does nothing to stop them.
In the begining MODS was a great way for players to make unique UI and nifty add ons to enjoy the games...now, I wonder if anyone will trust a mod or use one? Back to the default UIs we go.
WoW mods themselves should be perfectly safe to use. They aren't intependent programs, and can't do anything not specifically allowed them by WoW client program.
So unless there is a serious mistake somewhere, mods have no way to steal user's password. It's not possible. And I doubt that there would be any such mistake in WoW client. It would have been noticed by the users, and there would be much more hackings, if such mistake existed.
PS. sry for double post, but this editor doesn't work correctly on my browser so merging these two posts would have been too hard.
Sounds like your brother got into your account made a swift profit and dodged the blame... that is if you really don't have any viruses or gave out information or clicked some stupid link in an email or etc.
#1: There are dozens of ways for someone to obtain your password. Yeah, it sucks, but welcome to the world of technology. #2: You're not going to get much stuff back because Blizzard requires you to report the problem within three days. You might have had some leeway had you actually reported the problem when you found out about it, but for some reason picking up the phone for a few minutes was impossible for you do while on travel. I don't think Blizzard is going to be understanding about that one. #3: Your account was banned for the actions done by the person using your account, not your actions. Unfortunately because you failed to report the problem when you knew about it, you probably lost your case for saying it wasn't you right off the bat. #4: If you look on the forums (not sure if its actually in the Terms of Service or not), you'll see that Blizzard doesn't keep detailed character records beyond three days. This means if you don't report the problem in three days, so Blizzard can get a snapshot of your character before it was hacked, you're only going to get basic equipment back from them.
------------------------ Couple of responses to the replies: Don't quote baseless figures such as "hacking has increased by 40%" because you, and whoever you got that information from, has no way of proving that in any way shape or form. You're just being alarmist and coming off as an idiot. Also, don't sit and proclaim "Blizzard installed some sort of reporting tool" or "an addon did it to me", because you can easily determine what data Blizzard is getting from you by using a packet sniffer and all addons are, effectively open source, so you can see what the hell it is doing while in service. Not to mention if you don't do something stupid, like installing an addon that requires you to run a specific file rather than placing it in the Interface directory, addons can't get your password while playing because they aren't loaded until AFTER you login.
Your 1-4 are a bunch of BS. When my account was hacked it was reported with in 24 hours. Yet i was still banned. They deleted all of my gear. All i got back were 10 BoE greens. It doesnt matter the time frame. I Have friends who have deleted there toons and months later were able to get them back. Don't quote baseless figures such as "They only save it for 3 days" because you, and whoever you got that information from, has no way of proving that in any way shape or form.

Well then I'm still not worried about the non-normal keyloggers since when it actually comes to that (the percentage of people that actually suffer from this and not just had their account stolen by people they gave their info to n the first place <guild/brother>) I actually pay attention to what I do ^^ No opening of suspicious files, no email attachments, firefox + noscript + adblock.
Sure I'm not 100% safe, but I'm as close as I'm gonna be, if i'd worry beyond this point you might as well give me a straightjacket
That said, I still believe at least half of the "Zomg my account were stolen" is due to user carelessness.
Just one other small point, the OP is going on about just how safe and secure he is, yet he has his e-mail address displayed on his profile for any Tom, Dick or Harry hacker to drop him a little present! He will now of course tell me that it is a false e-mail address set up by him to trap hackers, silly me!
Dude, i am under no illusions that my machine is 100% safe and pretty much the whole of the internet community know that but all we can do is accept that fact and try and do all we can to protect ourselves.
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

Yes it's an elaborate way to trap people!!!!! No...
It's called having more than 1 e-mail adress for things. As in 1 for all forums/games sites I am subscribed to, 1 for signing up for any old stuff I need and 1 for games such as NCsoft, SoE and Blizzard.
So please, be quiet. And I have already checked my brothers account as I have his password,

I doubt this. That information is encrypted I believe.
