shadowbane had a a$$H0l3 mentality that was built mostly around the design of the game.
Any game where you can destroy in a couple hours what took people months and months to build....well theres going to be some swearing and hate chat :P
As far as WoW having the worst community? I just think thats because so many people play that game. Its just numbers. If one person in 20 is a prik and you have 10 million people playing that game....lol thats alot of priks :P
Although I'm a good fan of WoW, I'd say it has the worst community. Mostly on the Alliance side though. I'm thinking it has to do with all of the young players wanting to pick the goodguys because of how they're taught in their early days that they should grow up to be them.
Thankfully, I'm 80% Horde. And on my Alliance chars, I've been mostly solo. The Draenei seem to have the best community on the Alliance side, mostly because most immature people think they're ugly, and that you need BC to play as them. I haven't run into anyone who has been immature as a Draenei, but I've run into tons of Alliance people being immature when raiding towns on my Tauren and my Undead.
Best would probably be Runescape. Ever since they changed the game to prevent scamming and whatnot, all of the swearing, scamming, rule-breaking players have left because they don't get their griefing fun from making other people miserable.
I just think thats because so many people play that game. Its just numbers.
If one person in 20 is a prik and you have 10 million people playing that game....lol thats alot of priks :P
haha. yes. That's kinda what I was saying.. well put.

People always say that, that kids choose alliance because of the "do gooder" aspect but really think about it, when you were a kid would you have rather chosen and Undead or a Human? An Orc or a dwarf? Thinking back, I would have definitely picked something from the Horde side, and I'm willing to bet most little kids follow the same thought pattern.
Most kids are bastards trying to be the bad guy, not that shiny paladin. The shiny paladin is usually the 49 year old virgin RPing his way through life.
*Side note* I don't know if anyone else noticed but in all actuality the Alliance are the bad guys, think about their story line. The horde basically just want to kick it on their own little island, but the alliance just wants to lock em up (concentration camps).
I know it's not out yet but I'd say Darkfall has the worst community ever. Go to their forums and just try to ask a question or say something you'll be flamed 10 ways from Sunday.
So DFO WORST community you could possibly imagine, hopefully most of them go away.
LOL, you might be right, there's a good reason they call that site "Forumfall" and it is a harsh place if you ask the wrong question. ("Search is your friend, noob")

I think any free mmo tends to have a poor community, unless the mmo is relatively old like maybe Anarchy Online. WoW's I didn't think the chat was too bad, but it did tend to be young and you really had to find a decent guild. The battlegrounds had a pretty poor community aspect though as either people were lemons or just plain idiots.(well Alliance mainly)
- The Asian designed MMO's have the worst in my opinion. Since the MMO's themselves lean towards single player grinding and farming. They rarely encourage grouping or team play, except when it comes to pvp.
Shadowbane has the worst community I've ever experienced. I swear, the name of that game is feed off the young (newbies). The game turned into a cookie cutter build, you gimp yourself if you spend any newbie points in the wrong stat, elitest gank-fest.
That one is kind of a no brainer really. WoW has a horrible community. I think my bad experiences in MMOs (not including WoW) can be counted on one hand. Mostly stupid cleric who thinks he owns the group because he is the healer. Bad experiences in WoW (after playing for a total of 3 months) require both hands, feet, and I need to borrow my dog's paws as well (all 4 of them).
Eve has by far the most pricks I've ever bumped into. Elitist snobs, most of them.
WOW had lots of kids, but it also had loads of cool people as well. Actually WOW has more mature adults playing than any other MMO, just by sheer numbers. If you couldn't find any of them, you obviously aren't one of them. At least in WOW I could easily avoid the people I didn't like. I couldn't avoid the freaks in Eve, because every person came off as a sci-fi trekkie dork. No thanks. I avoid those people in real life. I certainly don't want to play games with them. No offense.
I find this whole post to be a joke, it just seems like another time to bash wow. I've played alot of MMO's as well.
Would you like me to list them? Hell no you don't why? Cause no one cares what games you've played, we all just want to sit and rant. Do I think WoW has the best community? OHHH HELL NO, Do I think it has the worst? OHHHH Hell No!!!! I consider, Guildwars to be infanatly worse, Is there a comunity in that game? If so I never even saw a glimpse of it. WoW has one its just hard to find, why? Cause theres so many god damn people and so many god damn servers, its hard as hell to find. Shut up with all the OMG theirs kids playing, wow your real mature you can't stand a couple immature kids.
My own brother has been playing TR and has said that he's grouped... ONCE... ONCE... what the hell is that, why is it even an MMO? now yes Im sure their are elements that require groups, though I could be wrong about that but if you can play a game for a couple weeks and still have only grouped once, thats kinda pathetic.
Now having said all that, the worst for myself would go to any asian MMO I've ever had the mispleasure of stepping into or guildwars, but I don't really consider guildwars to be an MMO more of a single player game with a multi player element. More what I consider Diablo to be, just a single player game that you can if you want group in.
So if I don't consider it to be, then what?... hmm Out of the games I've actually played probably Linage 2, why? cause of all the PvPing newbs, gold farmers that don't even need to hide that they do it. What little of a community I did find, it seemed to be collapsing and moving to other games. Perhaps the games changed since I played it, and lord knows I hope it has, cause ultimatly, I'm a huge MMO gaming fan and I like to see the games do well in the market. I will say this about the WoW comunity, its big enough not to give a sh__ what you all think about it lol, so stop and get over it, or don't... in the long run I don't care, I don't play wow anymore so if you want to call me a fanboi what ever, once again this is the kind of post I will never return to to read what people have said about me cause, like the WoW community, I don't care what you all think of me, at least I'm having fun
Well this isnt exactly a mmorg but Torn City has the worst community I have ever encountered. The Ironic thing is that the loudest and the rudest of them are the staff (hence the reason they lost me as a donator).
Never had any real problems with any communities in any mmo's so far. Actually I was with a awesome guild once in WoW called "Hrafnin flygur" on Bloodscalp. Ok there may be whining and leet talk in the public channels but who cares, you can turn it off.
There are good people and bad people in all the games out there. Its up to you how you deal with them on a day to day basis. If I dont like people, I dont play with them, and ignore them.
Other than the Chinese Gold Sellers and Power leveling advertisers, I haven't seen a community that was all that bad. I've seen individual players who were asshats but no more than I would expect. All in all, I think the MMO community as a whole is a pretty good group.
I agree 100% that Guild Wars and 99% of asian free to play item mall grinders have very bad communitys. As for the Shadowbane bashers, there are crap people in all mmo's dont get me wrong but Shadowbane is the only real true PvP mmo out atm. Shadowbane was made for the (hardcore) PvPer. Shadowbane is very political in game. SB does not have the population it once had but I remember back in the day the massive large scale wars, days of wall bashing before the bane went live, so much fun. SB is awsome with the full open PvP, 0 PvP restrictions, build your toon any way you want, city destruction, max level 75 in 2 or 3 days, very easy to get gear/items, not very item based, very political and I can go on and on.
Yes, since they made Shadowbane free to play it has taken on some major crap talking morons. Solution, turn off the lame global chat they added to the game or make a well built PK toon and go show em who is boss. When the hate tells come in, tell em cry more then /ignore. Also Shadowbane for the most part is not a solo game, being in a good guild or a good group of friends is a must, team work is everything in Shadowbane. I just wish that they didnt take the /tar out of the game. There was a time when a group of 10 players could wipe out a mass of people using /tar in seconds. Most of you are have been brain washed by free to play asian item mall grinders.
O well, ) have fun whatever you play. I think SB is a great mmo and I have been playing since release.
I found that Neocron's community sucked the proverbial.
If you lost a battle, you were almost guaranteed to suffer a heavy barrage of abuse. The only thing worse than that was winning a battle. Some of them just couldn't take a loss.
Also, the forum community of Face of Mankind in beta wasn't bad at all, but the in-game beta community (which included forum regulars) was nearly as bad as Neocron. Camping noobs then abusing them is some people's idea of beta testing.
Contrary to some other people's experiences, I've found FTP mmorpgs' communities to be okay.
Bellow are easily the worst I've encountered. I also find it no suprise many who inhabit titles #1 & #2 were spawned from the same breeding ground back in the day.
1) GuildWars
2) WOW
3) RF-ONLINE
Yea I know there are bad seeds in every community but these 3 take the cake. GM's seem to be a non factor in these titles, perhaps that's part of the problem as well.
I haven't played WoW but of the ones I have played, any F2P MMO has a not so good community. And it's because the nature of the game. It's free to play so all the 12 year old kids who can't get a credit card all flock to those types of games. And with all respect to the younger players, F2P games are just this awful meltdown of immature hate fests. It's like fingers down a chalk board.
I'm surprised to see MapleStory mentioned as often as it has been. I've never played it, but I never would've suspected -- especially given the style of game it seems to be.
I suppose any game that's free to play will have a larger proportion of morons and/or people who've been banned from other games?
Worst community I ever experienced for idiocy would be WoW -- but that's sort of to be expected, because so many genuine children play it. Worst community for hostility? EVE Online, hands down. I know that's a rough "fend-for-yourself" game, but I'm not talking about in-game ganking or anything. I'm talking about asking for help in the in-game Noob Help channel, and still getting hate-raped (and having to /block certain private harrassing tells) because certain vet players lurking there couldn't believe I didn't understand how crafting worked, or where a certain location was, after X hours of play. You gotta expect a bit of grief sometimes in online games, but this was unreal.
Friendliest? City of Heroes (Victory server) and LOTRO (Meneldor server)
I call BS on this one ive yet to see anything like this in EvE. It is true you do get a lot of spamming in the noob channels but the spam is usually just isk famer accounts and people asking questions [noobs].
I played through the EVE tutorial twice; I asked very innocuous questions in the proper chat channels, very politely, and got hellslammed and harrassed for it.
I'm not saying everyone who plays EVE will experience this -- I was answering the question as posed by the original poster, according to my own experiences.
