Looks like I'm gonna be a Conan guy.  I trust Funcom can really pull off some great stuff.  I just hope they've learned a lot about the mistakes made in AO, like making expansions that overpower everyone and break what balance they managed to make prior to its release, or turning the story into an excuse to make a loot game.

Ah well, not going to argue that point, the Shadowlands expansion was a huge mistake on their part. Its fun alright in its own way, but many call SL the Everquest 1.5 expansion, and they aren't far off.

Seriously one of these days someone sick to death of the crap we have for MMORPGs these days will make what needs to be made and stick with it or the morons making the MMOs these days will stop listening to the biggest whiners or believing they know what the biggest market is and trying to attract it, because each time they only manage to make something pretty, maybe even fun for a while, but has no substance.  Shadowlands was like that to me for AO, and WoW felt no different.

Let's hope AoC really does something, I'm gonna have to get involved with the community.  Maybe I can land a beta when I've my new computer.

In that respect, here's a good place to start:

    Forums.ageofconan.com

they also have an Internet Relay Chat room set up, details are:

    server: irc.funcom.com port:6667 main channel: #ageofconan

In addition, I don't know whether or not you'd be interested, and am not aware of your personal preferences for such, but a lot of damn fine guilds have sprung up already. Mine is an example of one of the largest and most well established, but there's a nearly full listing of them on the forums to browse.

I was simply answering the question given.  Which was "The story and plot evolves and changes as the GMs guide it along with the players' participation, so things you do (or don't do) could effect the end outcomes."

To me this sounded like he was asking if the main story of the game was able to be changed due to player interaction.  I could be wrong though.

Having side quests & GM events are great, but they do not change the game world & 6 months from now someone will not be going.. "Oh hey.. that's that tree that Deioth split in half to get the sacred ruby."

The type of GM events that you are talking about in AO are just that... events... they are not a normal part of the game world.

The revolutionary idea that I was referring to is the fact that if it was actually possible to change the game world based on player interaction.  The answer is still no, it will not be possible.

"There is as yet insufficient data for a meaningful answer."

Actually, Dameonk, that's exactly what I meant.  They are not normal occurrances.  When large, world-scale events, essentially GM events, occur, I expect there to be an urgancy to see it through to the end one way or another, and whichever "direction" or "possibility" wins, that is where the game will now go and the end results will build the foundation for future events.  THAT is player involvement.  Players are guided along the story and allowed to participate how they see fit, with hopefully plenty of options for them to choose from (at least enough in the scope of the basic lore and roleplay of the game world).  Then, their actions or inactions in how they go through the event determine the end results and thus alter the game and plotline based on those results.

It sounds like what happened in AO is exactly what I want to see and participate in.

Agreed, although I must admit, the split tree memorial kind of thing would be nice too.
