Sure, some tutorial to learn controls and such before jumping into the game, but linear "in-game" tutorials have always been a turn-off to me. Replaying the same old script each time you re-roll a character can get old fast.

I agree. Going through a tutorial the very first time you start up the game may be helpful, but I really hope that there is also some sort of option to just skip the tutorial in order to save yourself from having to repeat it for every character.
No definitive info, but the there has been dev discussion in various interviews and forum threads that there could be a way to either speed up, or remove parts of the 1-20 experience if you were to roll a 2nd character of the same archtype as one you've already done.
Im pretty sure I remember them saying you could skip some parts and leave Tortage at some point quicker for an alt.
If a game is built properly with a decent learning curve, you shouldn't need any tutorial. Period.
What deserves to be done, deserves to be "well" done...
The tutorial is only on your first time. you can skip iy on subsequent characters.
And yes, there should be a tutorial in all games. So I don't feel bad putting the guy spamming "How do I move?" on immediate ignore.
Yes, we realy do need tutorials. If the tutorial is set up like WoW where you play and don't even realise you're in a tutorial then turning of tips is enough, but if the tutorial is a separate part of the game, ofcourse you need to be able to skip it.
