"Halo 3, Call of Duty 4,...Guitar Hero 3" This is what he's talking about. Nothing new just rehashed same old same old. So yeah it's not a great year if they just remake a game, slap the next number in the sequence on it, and say 'wow we're amazing!'
Oh, thank you for not being a sheep and actually getting my point
Can you say that the Forge and Video replay systems in Halo 3 aren't anything short of amazing, innovative, and revolutionary?
Ever been done before to this scale? No.
Call of Duty 4 is the first to be set in the modern era, and the multiplayer ranking and class systems are brand new to the series. Guitar Hero 3... well... it's no Rock Band.
To put it shorter than you: - all 3 next gen consoles don't have quality games like their predecessors. None is worth the buy - Starcraft 2 didnt come out for PC. vanguard Sucked. WAR was delayed very very bad year for gaming.
2007 has actually been one of the best years for consoles, especialy the XBox360 received a high number of high quality games.
Best year for consoles....?
Wii: again, new rehashes of Nintendo classics. Boring.
PS3: nothing, absolutely nothing that you cannot find on other consoles/PC and got a rating superior to 8/10
Xbox 360: Beside Mass Effect, absolutely nothing new, innovative, or exceptionnally good.
People who think 2007 has been an exceptionnaly good year for gaming weren't in the market in 1994, 2002, or 2005. It's an average-to-bad year. Consoles prices are high, exceptionnal game are scarce, novelty is dead.
Xbox360 had plenty of high quality titles, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, The Orange Box, Guitar Hero 3 and many more I'm not even going to bother mentioning. You might disagree with me but review scores obviously prove you wrong.
and cut out with the "If you don't think this has been a bad year then you must have not been..." bullshit. I have been gaming in 1994, 2002 or 2005 so you might as well drop that silly arguement.

In game sequels, you do the same thing you did in the previous game but with new graphics. There are no other 'series' like this. Books, movies, and TV series all have different plot lines. Halo 3 is Halo 2 is Halo 1. Just like Warcraft 3 is Warcraft 2 is Warcraft 1. Any game '2, 3, 4,...n' is going to be the same damn game with new skin. Yeah that's fun. This goes double for FPS games because they, among all types of games save maybe sports games, are THE most simple and linear. Get gun, pull trigger. That's the whole game. The only FPS that ever did anything different was planetside, and only because it was massive and had some kind of persistant character development. All other FPS games are almost exact duplicates of DOOM but with better graphics.

Not really. Book and movie series continue the story and plot, just like a sequel in a game continues the story. the story of halo continues in Halo 3 from Halo 2, same for Warcraft. Call of Duty 4 is now using a modern day environment as opposed to the world war 2 envirionment with improved gameplay elements.
Saying all FPS are almost exact duplicates of doom is simply you turning a blind eye to what makes these games different.
If you played the beta, I don't care. * Note: Beta is not the final product.
In this case, it pretty much was.
If you played the game, I don't care.
Then why do you read forums?
If you are playing the game and enjoying it, I don't care.
Do you care about anything but your own opinion?
Hands down the MMORPG Game of the Year - Tabula Rasa.
Right, we heard you the first time.
If we get one solid game, like TR, each year... I would be a happy puppy whom found a new owner... EVERY YEAR.
Ah, so you are easily housebroken and become blindly loyal to anyone who feeds you -- even if what they are feeding you is not fit for human consumption.
Not much else to say, other then sitting here complaining about how other people create shitty games isn't going to improve anything, except bring more negative statistics to people who play video games.
Actually complaining is what makes developers understand where they can make improvments.
If you feel that all the hard working people that go to college who make these games are horrible at creating games, since this is their job.
You obviously do not understand how things work in this industry. There are a LOT of people who have no experience and no proven track record out there making games. The people doing the hiring at start-up companies are often faced with very shallow pools of talent to draw from, assuming they even know what they should be looking for in the first place.
Basically, anyone who is as professional as you seem to think ALL developers are, is probably working for a big company, and the smaller ones could never afford to hire them away.
Feel free to take a course and learn how to make games.
Second finds some egnines for your game.
Third find massive ammounts of money to launch this thing.
None of these things guarantees you actually have the talent or intelligence to make a good game. On the contrary, the people who are good at finding investors tend not to be so good at game design (or caring about the quality of the final product, for that matter).
Then convince 10 million people to play your game and SO ON....
A quarter of a million is more than enough to keep the investors happy and keep the development process afloat, assuming you didn't go way over budget in the first place.
My words to you: Good luck.
So if you still wanna sit at your computer and write on forums about how much your gaming experience is like your sexual activity: SUCKS. Then be my guest.
So childish. I guess you haven't yet figured out that reason these forums exist is to give people a place to express their opinions. Sometimes opinions are positive, and sometimes they are negative. And sometimes they are based on ignorance.
Lets here your Blahs: My biggest let down was Vanguard Saga Of Heros. After all the hype for this game and the pages upon pages of mmo philiosphy written by Brad it turns out to be more over hyped then WMD's in Iraq. This game was doomed at every level - crappy programming, Jeff Butler (lol) and Brad's emo breakdown. The saga was def out of game! Other than that all we've seen is rehashed Eq clone after rehashed EQ clone be released. WoW is running William Shatner Ads (take a step back folks) and making a movie while I come here day after day after day reading about desensitized gamers bored out of the tree after playing the same treadmill games over and over. I thought 2006 was a lousy year for gaming but this miracleous "2nd gen" mmo has turned into 3rd & 4th depending your perspective. The only game two games that have captured the imagination of this 32 year old gamer has been Eve online for the utter creativity of the game and CCP's devotion to their product (boot.ini and t2 aside). BoB is on the retreat and hate mongering Goons are ruling the roost which gives great cause for 2008. I almost like Everquest 2 probably but its nothing more than the most polished age old model but sadly the tread mill gets old fast. I have come to the conclusion that the massive multiplayer online business model is broken beyond repair. Every game maker has decided on a system that copies the other guy and spits out stupid quest after stupid quest after stupid quest. In 2008 I'll likey remove all mmorpgs (save for eve) and focus on retro games that were written while half the game developers today were still just starting to play pokemon card games. I remember the checkerboards in UO - they were ok - but gotta catch em all card games on line is about as dumb as playing virtual hackie sack. If this is the future of MMORPG games COUNT ME OUT!
I signed up for mmos to play rpgs in a mmo setting - someone pm me when they make one.
in order for Vanguard to be more hyped than WMD's in Iraq there would have had to be no game at all, just them talking about a game and then not a single line of code would exist.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You? if I were to kill a titan tomorrow and no CCP employees showed up to say grats I would petition it. Waiting for: the next MMO that lets me make this macro if hp < 30 then CastSpell("heal") SpellTargetUnit("player") else CastSpell("smite") end

I'll agree that this year has been somewhat slow for MMO's but we did get a few games that people seem to have enjoyed like LOTRO, TR and even though its an expansion Burning Crusade. None of those may appeal to you but many, many people are still enjoying them. As for pc gaming in general, 2007 has been a great year for gamers. Heres a small list of some of the other awesome games released for the pc this year:
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
The Orange Box
BioShock
Crysis
The Witcher
Sam & Max: Season One
Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar
And thats not including expansions for games like Medieval 2 and Supreme Commander. Anyone that says 2007 was a bad year for gaming is either clueless or retarded.

The fact of the matter is it has been a very good year for all sorts of gaming except for MMO's.
Argue if you like about 1's and 2's but thats not what happened. It wasn't low quality junk with a number 2 or 3 slapped on it. If thats what you think then you are jaded and not very objective. On top of it there where more then enough superior original releases to make everyone happy. If you didn't like Bioshock, Mass Effect, Orange Box (Portal) or World in Conflict.....well I really don't know what to tell you. Keep moaning about how the sky is falling I guess.
Maybe next year will be better for MMO players, a bad streak can only last so long.......(lol, famous last words...)
What's with the necro posting? Bored or something?
Just keeping things in perspective. But, there is hope for the future! We need to make fundamental change of our Gameonomy, move forward into the future, and make our voices heard so that game makers around the world know we're serious about RPGs.

"Halo 3, Call of Duty 4,...Guitar Hero 3" This is what he's talking about. Nothing new just rehashed same old same old. So yeah it's not a great year if they just remake a game, slap the next number in the sequence on it, and say 'wow we're amazing!'
it's called a franchise. You never enjoyed episode 2 in a tv series? a movie sequel? a game sequel? a sequel to a book? Just because it's another point in the series does not mean it's not good.
Thank goodness for 2008's "blah" year for gaming.

What's with the necro posting? Bored or something?
Just keeping things in perspective. But, there is hope for the future! We need to make fundamental change of our Gameonomy, move forward into the future, and make our voices heard so that game makers around the world know we're serious about RPGs.
