You must prevent watching stargate then, or you might kill yourself laughing. On second thoughts... watch it!

You know it, the best way to realize your dreams is waking up and start moving, never lose hope and always keep up.

Like every sci-fi in history is any different? Come on now... All sci-fi is a bit unbelievable and ridiculous, that's why I love it.

Isnt all this only a problem because there are humans in the video, had it been an alien race agains an alien race we would have accepted the story?.

now that I think about Will Smith, isnt TR just independance day II if Will hadn´t succeded in destroying the mother ship. that movie was also woth a big buck on a story that was worth naught.

But nevermid i think we all agree the trailer is weak, it got me though Im playing the game loving most of the alien killing and the superhuman powers that i have in my cyber world. lets see how long that lasts though, cause there is no Will Smith :)

Independence Day.....Modern day, invaded by aliens.  Goverment saves the day with "secret techonology" AKA alien ship found 50 years earlier.

Transformers....aliens come to modern day earth to turn it into a world of robots, other robots show up to help humans and the leader of the bad aliens....hidden in Hoover Dam and the reason we have 90% of modern technology.

Fact of the matter is this....the game's beginning movie clip follows many of the same patterns so many other sci-fis before it have followed....all ones we loved.

The only weaksauce around here was the OP's post.

Heres a crazy story, sci fi is just absolute nonsense... haha .. This movie ended up being the innovator of all alien invasions!

The Martians unchain a direct assault to our planet, with hundreds of invulnerable ships. The invasion takes place all over the world, and all the major cities are destroyed one after one; even the atomic bomb can't stop them. But, if the humans can't beat them, who can?

How about another... a true classic of classics!

In a distant galaxy eons before the creation of the mythical planet known as Earth, vast civilizations have evolved, and ruling the galaxy is an interstellar Empire created from the ruins of an Old Republic that held sway for generations. It is a time of civil war, as solar systems have broken away from the Empire and are waging a war of rebellion. During a recent battle techical schematics for a gigantic space station, code named The Death Star, have been unearthed by Rebel spies, and a young woman who is a dissident member of the Imperial Senate, under the cover of a diplomatic mission to the planet Alderaan, is trying to smuggle these plans to the Rebellion. But her spacecraft is attacked by a vast warship of the Empire and seized. The dissident Senator is captured, but the plans for the Death Star are nowhere to be found. While soldiers of the Empire search the nearby planet Tatooine, a series of incidents sweeps up a young desert farmer with dreams of being a fighter pilot in the Rebellion, as he winds up with the Death Star plans and also the assistance of an elderly hermit who once served as a warrior of an ancient order whose chosen weapons were powerful energy swords known as light sabers. The pair recruit a cynical interstellar smuggler and his outsized alien copilot with an ancient freighter heavily modified for combat to help them reach Alderaan - but the planet is obliterated and now the foursome must rescue the young woman held prisoner by the Empire and lead an attack by the Rebellion against the Death Star before it can annihilate all hope of restoring freedom to the galaxy.

Yep.. If movies/games like this came out today... They would defiently fail. This crap sounds like a failure in my book.

You guys are all missing the point. There is a difference between something being real or not (such as Superman flying) and something being illogical and not making any sense.

  • ThaneBThaneB Member Posts: 131

lol, I don't know what's worse, the crappy narrator, or the cheesy dialog. Couldn't these guys afford to get at least a decent voice actor?

You can't say that civilization don't advance, however, for in every war they kill you in a new way.

Of course I'm just keeping my level the same as the OP and anyone moaning about the intro, its an intro, sooooo many are absolutely crap. Just play the game!

Wait a minute.....did you just seriously argue that superman flying is "real" or that it IS logical and makes sense while TR's invasion of an alien race is impossible, illogical and makes no sense?   Wow, you are so desperate to slam on this game....it's sad.

I may be mistaken, but I think Yamota meant that a story has to have an intrinsic logic of it's own and be loyal to that logic to be believable enough to allow us to suspend our disbelief.

Superman can fly because the story's internal logic is set up from day one. He is an alien that is native to a red sun, while under our yellow sun he has amazing powers. Of course, we accept this more easily because there is no precedent for it, nothing to say that a being from another world would not be able to do these things.

This trailer on the other hand asks us to accept a string of illogical weak plot devices involving things that we are very familar with that have been shoe horned into a story of sorts that seems to exist just as an excuse to run around and shoot things in the game.

I have to wonder why TR dosent just say that X alien came to Earth to swop advanced technology for soldiers to come and fight their war for them on a distant world, developing us into psionic juggernaughts to be more effective weapons along the way.... It woulda avoided a lot of the issues with the story as it stands.

Gotta say though, visually I quite like the trailer... but I get the OP's point, even though I wouldnt have expressed it nearly the same way he did.

And yeah, using the term 'weaksauce' didnt help him much either....

It didn't hurt Independence Day or Transformers.  What string of illogical, weak plot devices involving things you are very familiar with did you see in the trailer?  Aliens?  An advanced technology, hidden by our goverement?  That man-kind gets drafted into the war?   Seriously...explain.  Because all I have seen are people looking at the top side of two dimes and QQing that one is a joke when in fact they are the SAME THING.  Really..if anyone wanted to argue that there were a string of illogical plot devices, the same could be said of Star Wars, Superman, Batman and any other Sci-fi/superXXXX story out there.  That's what seperates them into those areas....that they are NOT our reality.

Aliens:  well, there is no evidence they they do or do not exist.

hidden technology:  How long did it take for us to find out about the B-2 or the F-117?  How many movices are based on something hidden from us by our goverment?  Independence Day?  Transformers?  Heck, National Treasure is based compeltely on the idea of goverment secrets.

Reality is this...given what litle we know of the universe outside our own solar system and what little we have scratched on the surface of science, there is nothing that would prevent what we see in the trailer from happening tomorrow.

So again, how can any sane person claim that flying like superman is logical, but our goverment hiding something from us is not?  Seriously?

If i am an alien i sure would not call my main turret system "Tesla coil". I tend to believe that so advanced aliens should have their own researchers :p

Ok serious now, what are you guys talking about? Are you all insane? Who gives a frak about intro movie, you gt be joking...

I would tend to agree with that...I am surpised as others were in the thread that this was even an issue.  Once the trolls jumped it and starting running though.....Superman flying because a logical idea and the feds hiding stuff was impossible. lol

OK, first off lets calm down a little. I said what I said in a level reasonable way, so can you please do the same?

Please be aware that I am not talking about reality vs fantasy/ sci-fi.

I am talking about internal logics that allow us to suspend our disbelief.

My only point is that the TR backstory has too many glaring 'eh? How does that happen?' moments to make sense or seem like a reasonable chain of events, to me at least.

To me, again, this is simply the difference between good sci-fi/ fantasy and bad sci-fi/ fantasy.

i think what macksum is going for here is the lack of weed they have been dealing with for the last week or so. having had his drug dabs and bags taken away macksum is in disbelief.............having to deal with reality now everything else doesnt make sense and with all recovering drug addicts its that single reality that causes them to see things in a conspiratol outlook.

take macksums use of "THEN", it underlies macksums anger at not being picked. picked for what you ask? anything, everything, since macksums twist on reality is forcing macksums view to also reflect macksum not being picked. when macksum saw the tabula rasa trailer and also saw others werent picked, macksum had to post.

    hope that clears things up.

    the doctor is out.

can you smell that?!!...............there is nothing quite like it.....................the smell of troll in the morning............i love that smell.

mm, some people get it, others hide their lack of intelligence by throwing insults around.

To clarify, the reason the intro doesnt make any sense to me. Is that the "goverment" knew about it so they had prepared. And how had they prepared? By teleporting people away to fight a war on distant worlds but they did only after we lost earth? And now that we have lost earth then we will all of the sudden stand a chance because some of us has mysteriously gotten some kind of weird magical powers? Why not spend these resources and magical powers to defend earth in the first place? No explanation is given...

The story is all backwards and has holes that you could fly a Star Destroyer through. But anyway, it is true that most intros suck, but that doesnt make TRs suck less. And to compare the intro to multimillion dollar movies is just insane and doesnt deserve any kind of response.

As for me being desperate enough to slam this game. I am just pointing out something that would be a fact to most sensible people: The intro story is crap, which is true for most games out there, but that doesnt make it less of a crap. And the reason is simple. Resources spent in games are used for the actual game, not the intro.

Now who is most desperate. Someone who points out that something is crap or someone going to great length defending something that is obviously crap by comparing it to movies which sole purpose is the actual movie and not some game coming afterwards. Are you seriously comparing the intro to movies such as Superman and Star Wars?

    Retorical question, dont answer that...
