Hey I bought all the game expansions and had a problem with Knights of the Nine and the horse armor pack not installing. After emailing the Oblivion tech support they told me to boot up in safe mode and then install them and it worked. However, I was using XP at the time. I dunno if this would work for Vista or not.

Also, nobody had answered my question about dual booting? How do you boot both Vista and Xp on a manchine?

    Thanks

I hope these answer your questions...

    1) ALWAYS install the eldest OS first if you plan to dual-boot, in this case XP first then Vista. This is because the newest OS will use a different boot-loader. In Vista's case it is very different. [There are loads of websites that can help you here, just google it]

    2) If you plan to use more than 2GB of ram, get 64-bit AND make sure your motherboard can handle it.

    3) There is a quirk with 64-bit Vista, which a patch will fix, BUT you can't install the patch until you install vista . The quirk is that Vista (64bit) will FAIL to install if you have more than 2GB of ram. the trick is to install it with 2GB of ram or less then apply the patch and then put in the extra ram.

    4) DX10 allows programmers to use more DX9 special FX, DX10 itself does NOT have a new feature set it is just more of DX9. With DX9 there are limitations with how many of these FX you can have, DX10 allows more of these FX but does NOT introduce any new ones.

    5) Only a few games will not work on 64-bit, but they are general older with badly made installers. There are not that many NATIVE 64-bit games (less than 20), but since most games benefit from lots of ram running 64-bit is an advantage.

I bet "the computer shop" didn't mention some of the above.

    Hope that helps.

Not wanting or trying to start the same old war up but............., The crap you pc people have to put up with is incredible. If my Mac & OS X even had .001% of these problems I would be upset.

Yes yes, i know about the "cant play games", "one button mouse", "too expensive" myths so please don't start. I am only commenting on your diligence and patience as pc people.

Microsoft could easily have make DX10 a separate download for XP but no, you have to pay an extortionate amount for their 'new and improved' Vista, which is for all intents and purposes, a downgrade from XP.
And besides, those who say that DX10 is a huge improvement over DX9 are deluding themselves, they're probably just seeing the improvements from the new video card they bought at the same time.

I totaly agree with the above comments. I have Vista premium 32 bit, and iv gone back to xp twice after installing, i just can't see the point in vista. DX10 is easly backdated to XP but microsoft refuse to do so because they want to force you to buy a whole new OS with a bunch of stuff you really couldent care less about. Vista is the most system resource hogging OS iv ever dealt with, which seem strange as microsoft are trying to market it as a gaming OS, and any graphical advantages iv seen using DX10 instead of 9 aren't fantastic.

I use Vista 32 bit with no problems.  I like it.  I have XP set up for dual boot but I never boot to it.

I did have problems with 64 bit.

The only thing that is wrong with Vista, is the user.  I say go for it and get Vista 64, it only makes sense because your going to have a 64bit processor.  Vista, at first install you will have to disable a couple built in security features but after that your system will be rocking!  If all possible, I would get the 32bit and send in $10 dollars for the 64bit and then dual boot your rig to use both or just get the OEM versions 32bit and 64bit cheaper.

I have no problems with Vista at all.  My system runs allot better than I can remember with XP.  Like I said, the only thing that is wrong with Vista is the user.

There is no reason to buy a Mac any more, only reason Apple is doing well is because of the iPod. Mac now uses the x86 architecture, PC started using it 30 years ago.

I don't know why anyone would buy something that is not only unupgradable, but slower too.

You seem to ahve forgotton how Macs cant be upgraded at all due to parts being SOLDIERED in. And how Macs cost a lot for what is a lesser system.

If you dissagree by all means post the stats of your mac with its cost to buy brand new [if you wish].

So... Please fill me in on what exactly can not be uograded on a Mac. Be specific.

    Like this you mean?

    Graphics Cards...
    Sound....
    Display.....
    Memory.....
    Keyboard/Mouse....
    Printers....

Only other things to replace would be things you either ugraded because the after market PC bargain bin trash part broke or Vista wouldnt work with it.

Run GeekBench and give me your score... MIne is 3223.
I'll run it under Vista also if you would like.

And who ever said Macs are made of inferior parts... LOL are you friken high. Macs are known to be built better than any PC in the world. Quality is so far above any PC trash out there. But, as the saying goes... You get what you pay for.

All I'm going to say is that Macs are supposed to be idiot-proof.
