The trial is there for a reason.

    There will be no rollback.

Yeah, I would suggest giving the Trial a go and see for yourself.  As mentioned, you can get it at www.tryswg.com.  Chilastra is a pretty high populated server and would be my recommended pick :)

  • If you mean:

Does it still have only 9 static professions, Jedi still available on character creation, no meaningfully unique skill templates, Benny Hill movement,  no animations, Batman particle effects, horrid UI, pseudo FPS by default, lag despite few players due to a combat system that runs several times faster than the internet can handle, crafted items still suck compared to looted, etc, etc...

Then your answer is NO.  It hasn't changed fundamentally from what we were forced to accept on 11/15/2005.  They've put some new coats of lipstick on it, but it's still the same pig.

About all that has changed is that it has even less subscribers than a year ago.

It is obvious Salvaje hasn't played it due to even press saying that the recent chapters have been a hit with fans bringing new life to the game along with resurgence in numbers. Now are they any where near the 350k number they posted post-CU probly not, but hell they are now where near their 60k low either.

They have done good work on trying to bring back the features in which people liked, and leave out what people disliked a lot. I enjoy the game very casually now as it is not the biggest game to try and accomplish everything, but it is fun and fast paced along with really fun en mass pvp.

If you like the original combat of SWG and hated the CU you might actually like what the game is becoming again. I really disliked the CU, but I delt with it, and now I am really enjoying SWG again. Now if you are looking for a full time game shrug it is nice and they have added a lot of stuff to keep you busy for hours on end day after day if that is what you are looking for.

Best bet is to just check out the trial and see for yourself as they have added collections in the chapter that can be done at a multitude of levels so as you progress you can challenge yourself more. I still play maybe 10 hours a week, but do enjoy a lot when I do. Hope it works out for ya OP.

on topic: I would recommend giving it a try, most of the negative stuff comes from people who no longer play, so, for the most part, they have no idea what theyre talking about

Pure hilarious and bull. The game is in no way shape or form like it was before the cu hit. <Mod edit>. I quit playing galaxies not very long ago, and since the NGE came out it has been the buggiest, and most laggy game i have ever played. The games combat is horrible and now is nothing more than buff wars. The animations are so poke and slash, you have to download mods to atleast make you feel like your toon is doing more than running around like Benny hill. Have they added in some new quests and such, yes they have, but since they turned the game into a linear class based crapfest, they had to add in quests to lead you from lvl 1 to 90.

I've played the game and I chuckled because most of this was right.

Regardless, if you want to play a Star Wars game this is the one.

    Good luck

Have to say salvaje is close to what it is today, only a few more features like beastmaster, Heroic fights and collections have been added.

Lets have a look shall we: Only 9 professions? Check. Jedi available for everyone? Check. No meanful skill template? Check, expertise is a good joke. Benny Hill movement? Check, and that will stay. No animations? There are animations but those are not good. Bad UI? Check. FPS? Check. Lag? Check. Looted just as good as crafted? Not entirely but its good enough so crafted things aren't necessary.

    That is SWG, have fun..

The number of people who no longer play numbers in the hundreds of thousands.  No one, not even the kool-aid fanbois will claim that it still has subscribers in that amount.

Clearly those who quit and no longer play are the vast majority and those who still play the "vocal" minority.

Our opinions matter just as much.  The #1 reason why hundreds of thousands quit SWG was the NGE.  The NGE is still the game engine.  As I said earlier, the changes and additions amount to minor coats of lipstick on the same ugly pig.

Try Eve online.  It is BEYOND pre-CU in it's depth and complexity.  And it's getting a ground game.

It's true that old SWG is never coming back.  Unfortunately...

really, that had NOTHING related to my post so why quote it? My post said that most people who still bitch about the game havent played since the NGE, when was the last time you played? November 05 right? You guys just look at the negative. You dont want to try it out because it dosent have the 32 professions anymore, does it stillhave a great community? check. Still the best player housing system in any mmo? Check.  A great space game still skill-based? Check. The best System for player-run events and roleplaying in any mmo (Storyteller)? Check. Pre-NGE and Pre-CU Content returning with every publish? Check. The old Creature handler in the form of beastmaster? Check. A Great development team constantly communicating with the community on the forums and players havign a say in development changes? Check.

Basically what im trying to say is you guys NEVER look at the positive, you see a lack of 32 professions and start bitching that the game is the worst mmo ever, take a look at the positiveof the game for once, The game has a lot more positive than negative in it

I want some of the drugs that Smed was on when, in a Slashdot interview shortly after the NGE was released (and when he had 250,000 people pissed off to no end at him) when he proclaimed that the NGE was the game to beat WoW.  That must have been some killer stuff.
