New Sith Wars is a good era indeed, IF you want the focus of the game to be JEDI vs SITH.  Personally I'd love if they were merely both around in fair numbers justifiably but not the focus of everything.  Though I do believe that even if a lot of people would play JEDI/SITH right away, many people would also opt for other classes... you just have to make them cool, fun and really capable in their own trade.  Mandolorians, bounty hunter mercs, soldiers, engineers, smugglers whatever there's a lot to work with in the universe of Star Wars.

If the IP is Star Wars, EXECUTION of the game will be the key to success.  SOE has proven you can much up even a titan of an IP.  Thankfully, BioWare are very very good at what they do, Role Playing Games.

Post episode 6 definetely! But I don't know about New Jedi Order, I really would like to see the Legacy timeline.
Now don't get me wrong, Bioware did a GREAT job with KOTOR and I know that I would still play it if it was. But I'd just like to see a different era from the movies or KOTOR, and the good thing about post episode 6 is that we can still be storm troopers, fly x-wings etc. (although I will admit, SOME of the ships in KOTOR have a nice look to them, but I didn't like a good chunk of them)

I voted for post ep6 but would also think KOTOR would be great.  The other two sounds like they could be too limited to the existing storylines.

I voted for the KOTOR era bu t I prefer the dark hoarse comics version of it. Along with the Star Wars Legacy Era which is 150 years after Luke Skywalker is dead. What ever Bioware is doing I hope it is a Sci FI.

It would be kind of cool if its a new jedi era but you begin the game going through a short solo campaign in episode 6 and after that you start the new era in game years later.

  • Deathstiny already pointed it out a bit. But movie license mmorpg are never any good success to be honest. Beside Its should be based on the orignal Star Wars movie 4-6, not the new. I dont consider them to have anything with Star Wars at all. For me there is only Eps. 4-6 there was made for like 20 year ago?. All that expand universe is the same. Based it on the orignal matr.

  • Well the thing is that I am pretty sure that at least 50% of the people who would want to play any kind of Star Wars game want to Jedi/Sith.

What kins of stuff sells for Star Wars?  Light sabre that is what.

So how many people want to be non-Jedi?  And should Jedi be an "alpha class"?

Some people think Jedi should be an alpha Class.  However Kotor 2 shows that this is not necessarily true.  While Jedi are certainly better than some smuggler with a blaster the Sith in KOTOR trained assassins to kill Jedi.

In fact one of your companions is a former assassin who had killed many Jedi but had not force powers at the time (although he had potential).

So if we take accept this for the sake of argument, then what we have as a possibilty is that the classes avaialble could be elite professions within the Universe itself but no true alpha class.  In other words anything that was a class would be a more formidable than some storm trooper.

So Kotor is probably the best setting or possibley the New Jedi Order.  In my opinion Jedi would have to be a starting class to be acceptable.  Or at the very least something most anyone could attain if it was a secondary path.  And further it is not necessary to make Jedi the alpha class as they are not the only elite option.

Ya jedi are not that hard to kill as long as they are not paying attention, something that was shown in the ending of episode 3.  And they were all Master Jedi.  Excluding Yoda of course because hes the man when it comes to the force lol.

    Everybody want Jedi...

Yet the largest organized fan group of Star Wars, are..... Stormtroopers?! WTF?

And if I'm not mistaken, the "Leia slave girl" fanclub has a rather large following too...

Maybe it's that "GAMERS" want jedi, because Jedi = powerfull, and gamers only want to be the most powerfull asskicking badass there is?

Wich kinda is the total opposite to what Jedi are supposed to be... Everyone wants to wear the UN peacekeeper uniform, but only to behave like Rambo.

Wich is why, I'd not make Jedi playable in anything but singleplayer FPS/RPG's.

I'd also prefer the original trilogy timeline. Wich imho is not at all limiting. We have a friggin galaxy out there folks.  Why should the ongoing struggle(wich is a excelent backstory for a PvP/PvE war) make it impossible for us to make a game?

Do we realy have to have Luke/Han/Maul/Leia/Mandalore/Whatever KOTOR character/etc hold our hand and lead our path? Why can't we have our adventures while they have theirs? I'd rather read about Lukes defeat of the deathstar on the holonews, while hiding out in a seedy cantina(or defending a imperial convoy agaist rebel/pirate ambush) than doing Lukes Deathstar run.

I'm not playing a Star Wars game to recreate the story I've read and watched 100's of times.. I'm not playing to walk in Luke/Solo/Vaders footsteps...

And when you have a GALAXY, you have a darn huge place to work your magic to avoid stepping on the backstory.

Would you care to take up your arguments with George himself?? Heck you didn't even bother acknowledge eps 1-3 which were his own. Ultimately it's not really up to you whether the expanded universe is a part of the star wars universe or not. It's Lucas' decision. Which is really sad you think that way because you're relly missing out on a lot of good story telling and all for the sake of what? staying true to the movies?

Tolkien wrote a number of books as well which were set in middle earth. Would you say that because peter jackson didn't do a movie about them, then somehow you don't consider them a part of the history of lord of the rings?

The fact that you mention that the expanded universe just follows the same path as the movies just shows your ignorance on the subject and on the stories that are told. Heck if we want to be picky about it, we can argue that ALL stories follow the same path. This isn't new.

Actually epi 1-3 was outlined along with epi 4-6.

So I don't know what you are talking about :S

None of the above because they all stink.  I want the game set in an original timeline where the future can be written.  I want Dark Horse's Legacy timeline (circa 140 ABY).  It's way more interesting then the rest of the same old rehashed crap and the best part is that Luke Skywalker is dead and the Empire (under the Emperor Roan Fel) are the good guys.

It's much more interesting than any other timelines.

Maybe i got other informations but on the Bioware homepage they wrote that they produce 2 new Games, 1 MMORPG and 1 for LucasArts and it will be a Next Gen Game, that means for me Console like the 360 or PS3.

  • Hoobley_deletedHoobley_deleted Member Posts: 677

Should it happen, either KOTOR or NJO.

I voted KOTOR, but in hindsight NJO would be more familiar to the majority of Star Wars fans and give a greater scope for unhindered progression and (in theory) attract a larger player base.

Bioware must be loving the publicity they're getting from all this rumoring and I'm sure they aren't in a hurry to put this matter to rest.

I voted KotOR but I would also be happy with New Jedi Order or the later Legacy eras.

  • jmpreissjmpreiss Member Posts: 49

KOTOR Era would be great just because people would be able to play their Jedi that they want, but those that don't choose it will not be left behind due to stuff available (cortosis weaved items and such).

NJO would be a good choice as well since it is a very interesting time period imo, but I still think the older beats it out. There's just so much story to be told back in the time.

  • DeltawraithDeltawraith Member Posts: 119

you forgot an option. None of the above. BioWare is working with LA on a Next gen game, not an MMO. for their MMO project they are hiring writers, devs, etc etc. It's highly possible that its not a SW IP, However I'm not saying that its not i just dont want it to be.

  • SarykSaryk Member UncommonPosts: 476

If they were making a MMO of a Star Wars era I would pick KOTOR. As for the sticking to the story the NJO would still be confined to the books. So they would have to choose the time after the last book.

But after the Emperor and Vader died, in the next book wasn’t the Empire just as strong? If I remember the fleet at the Death Star was a minor fleet. And they had several other major fleets cruising around.  And didn’t a Fleet General take over command. It’s been awhile since I read the last book.

being a huge fan of both. b/c I love the the sw univerise. I just got darth banes 2nd book which takes place in kotor world. but if you are going to do nj era.. I think not only sith but have it where you can also play a rogue jedi. so that way you can learn both sets.. plus alot of it is going to have to be based on "the force" how its precieved. the debate or conflict  is does using the darkside turn you all pale and messed up looking or doesn't it. b/c in the the rp table top using the darkside it does. in the books it tells you as it is told to jacen. granted she could have told him this to lure him in. but she says there isn't light or dark. its just the force. its how your feeling ,whats going through your head when you use it. however what about all the other ppl out there that love the sw univerise and don't wish it to be only about jedi. if you think about it. yeah they and the bh's are the most popular things. however its a huge galaxy the odds of running into a jedi is like me being adopted by bill gates...I do know however that bioware will get the sh@# done right when soe/swg didn't . I wasn't happy with the kotor 2 they rushed the game out to fast and way too many holes in the storyline. yet this is where they can redeem themseleves.
