If they can deliver on what they promise, I will play it.  If not, I won't.  Very simple.  What else is there to discuss?

  • yclukycluk Member Posts: 34

Darkfall seems promise to deliver a lot, and this kind of games are difficult to develope and could be cut before release or failure on release.

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is one example.  Setting a high goal and (still) can't be achieved (easily).

By reading the feature and game world rules of darkfall, it looks like it's the game style for me, and I hope they can deliver a game with solid core / backbone, and the extra features can be added later like EQ.

this is what i know thats in or has to be in unless there lieing of course but im not going to say they are until proven guilty *looks at people*

all the main features except for the recent things they said wont be in release

prestige classes, mounted heads and a few lil fluff things but the main features are in

of course we will see : )

Im looking forward for this game.. things they put in there sound very interesting. And nodays tech supports that. I belive that Darkfall will be out soon or later, Doesnt really matter me so much. Game worth waiting.

    Nice!

We ave to see what the friday update will say. Maybe some cool information, or the same old.....

And i did read yesterday when Blizzard confimed their new MMO, that WoW took seven years to develop. Thats why the new MMO would be out 2014........as earliest.

And some complain about DF taking time  LOL

Based on that it's going to take Darkfall another 7 years to come out than.

I mean if it took 100 or so seasoned pro's 7 years to build WoW... it would mean that it would take much lesser skilled devs with a much smaller team double or even triple the time to do the same...

But the real funny part is that DF seems to have even MORE features than WoW did.

You just have to sit back and laugh sometimes.

You saying, dev team that making darkfall is lesser skilled? If Darkfall is final stage by smaller team in 7 years. That makes Devs more skilled than WoW.

If you dont like Darkfall or Darkfall Developement team, find forum that fitts you better than this. thx

but the thing is 40 devs can work better togther than 100 can if WoW is what they got after 7 years LMAO is such a simple listic game

  • oakaeoakae Member UncommonPosts: 344

It took less than 40 people to make WoW. Over the next few years after release they added like 80. Blizz did a pretty good job considering it was their first MMO.

  • KillershiverKillershiver Member Posts: 187

yea it well built game : ) just very simple

Maybe in your dreams. Wow had well over 100 developers.

    http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/world-of-warcraft/credits

WoW had 30 programmers alone working on it.  Besides everybody else..

The entire Darkfall team doesn't even equal the amount of programmers WoW had working on it.

  • daarcodaarco Member UncommonPosts: 4,276

And i bet the DF develpers have a better team : )

WoW dont have any special features. Its the opposit, the WoW devs have avoided all special features. Example: you cant interact with anything, there are not even doors at houses. The level/class system is supposed to be the easiest way to advance.

Still, WoW is a excellent MMO, if you are in for those kinnda games. But ten year old games had player houses, ship building, A real crafting system, and a purpose for a character to "live".

In WoW the character have no purpose.

In DF........every character WILL have a purpose. Any character can destroy or help another player to succed of fail in a clan war over a new empire....that could save a city in a bigger race war.

if it get released : )

I'll find you a good psychiatrist if you really believe that.

Well they haver newer "know how" from all over the world, they are innovative and do whatever they want.

The WoW devs made some really good games and had al ot of ideas....and still made that piece of crap MMO........not good devs?

  • KMONBOYSKMONBOYS Member Posts: 16

I tell ya what - If darkfall ends up being even 1/4 the quality that WoW is I'll buy a gun and blow my head off.

  • KillershiverKillershiver Member Posts: 187

how about just play the game and opoligize

or at least admit you was wrong

Sure some consider WoW a piece of junk, others not. In the end, what matters to companies that make these games is the bottom line of revenue. 9 million accounts times what 14.95 i believe the sub price is. that = tons of revenue.

I think whats got most of the forum readers with negative views on darkfall is that after all that developement time, lack of new information is actually hurting them. In some cases a media blitz a couple of months before release does help some games get off the ground.

While I have no doubt that the game is being developed, the general lack of available new information about the game, I find very disturbing and it will bring nay sayers out in large numbers.

If they have the latest and greatest tools available to develope the game, the longer they take (in this particular rare case) the better newer tools get and they can either play catch up, or just release the game, both can easily be detrimental to them.

Odds of this game launching via my viewpoint :10%

Odds of success outside a niche market via my view point: 1%

As for that one poster who said you dont like the game dont comment on the forum. its mmorpg.com not tdarkfall.com etc for all games.

    Playing: Not much actively.
Games played: to many to list, been playing MMO's since 2001

Yeah, the lack of information really destroys the credability for Aventurine.

Thats the worst part for me as a gamer and person wanna buy their product......i can only wait and see whats gonna happen.

And yes, WoW is making a lot of money.......but McDonalds also make a lot of money......and noone would ever say that is good food. That says alot about the people that buys those products...... : )

  • KillershiverKillershiver Member Posts: 187

there devs journals every 2 weeks with new screenshots here and there and some more info that we odnt know some times it the same old same old but its still ne winfo you got to relize games before beta dont give much info in the first place a game in beta and a game not in beta and a game that released are alld iffrent darkfalld evs have given alot of info for not being in beta yet

You never ate Mcdonalds?  It might be bad for you , but it tastes good.

The only thing that matters for a company is making money. If it makes money then it's a success.

What DF needs is a trustfund - like some guy inherits 1 billion dollars and likes DF so much he buys into the company for 500 million and tells them to get it done with no commercial pressures whatsoever.  (Total fantasy, of course.)

  • KillershiverKillershiver Member Posts: 187

i think thats what kind whats going onm but i think there under a bit more pressure at this point esspiccly if they not going to be putting in head trophy by release comeone that has to be easy to do (so there pretty damn close)

It is much harder to create a good sandbox style MMORPG than a linear type MMORPG and the reason is that for a sandbox style MMORPG you have to create a dynamic virtual world. Much harder than creating a linear single player like game like WoW.
But in general I think they are destined to be less popular simply because it takes more brains and innovativity to be succesful in sand box style MMORPGs. And sadly since MMORPGs have become mainstream now it means that the average player has the brains the size of a peanut and want everything easy (read casual) so they wont be succesful in something that requires mental capacity and dedication so they wont play it.
Once again, you prove my point for me. Thanks.

I'd say they are destined to be less popular because of people like you playing them.

    Cheers.

entirely agree... what a sad person this Yamota guy is.

Let's talk more about the developer talent/numbers factor. In my opinion, it would be very difficult to match the talent that blizzard has working for them. However, good games do not always require a large development team. One example of a great game made by an amateur team is Mount and Blade.

Having a large development team has benefitted World of Warcraft in the following ways:

    • Massive content including tens of instances, zones, and varied gear
    • Great customer support
    • Few bugs
    • Compatibility
    • Balanced gameplay
    • Easily modified program

I see none of these factors as being absolutely crucial to Darkfall's success, provided that Darkfall experiences a smooth launch. Like an indie rock band gone mainstream, Darkfall can (potentially) still succeed without a large publisher, giant content-development team, and marketting blitz. I'm making the assumption that the majority of players who try darkfall will have no stance on the sandbox v linear and pvp v pve issues. Most World of Warcraft players chose to play World of Warcraft because they tried it, and enjoyed the game. Remember the phrase, "If you build it, they will come."

Darkfall will probably not have the ammount of content that Blizzard can provide. However, good gameplay can create infinite replayability. Halo 3 has a massive audience on x-box live and split-screen multiplayer, with only a handful of maps. What matters most is whether or not they will build it. If they do build it, will it be something we want to play?
