Death of World of Warcraft

bortiisbortiis Member Posts: 16

I think this game is greatly on the decline. Although there is another expansion it's doubtful it is going to ultimately save this game. Alot of other games out there, making an effort to beat WoW and while Blizzard has made alot of tweaks, I just don't think they've made the grade. I won't even get into the PROs/CONs of the game but I noticed a huge drop in players and quieting, dwindling community. The only people left were those who only raided with their raid guild anytime they could, standing around IF all day waiting to get another group together so they can pursue that phat l00t and stuff. The other people remaining were the exact same people, playing a new alt character while waiting for their 40-man raid group to form.

It's interesting that Blizz claim to have made it easier to grind from 0 to 60 and made more instances "soloable". In reality, maybe they should have done that alot sooner, there is alot of growing competition out there from companies with FAR LESS overhead. I would expect to see Blizz trimming down the servers at some point this year, or at least until after the next expansion (if it makes it that far).

The lich-king expansion will cause a resurgence but i think it will brief. since the new content is exclusive to a particular group of WoW gamers, and other than a new place the new content is weak (new dances? lol. just Death Knight hero class? uhhhh.), i wouldn't expect much.

Blizz will probably end up making WoW more the way it should have been, the way people want it, ultimately but by then, it will be way too late.

Of course it will die. But its going to be a slow death. WoW will continue to do fairly well and then it will fade into the darkness like all games do. Nothing will make it last forever, so enjoy it for what it is... a very simple game that can give you a year or two of great entertainment and then a few years of mild entertainment and then move on.

Should we really even expect more than a few years of mild entertainment? Sure, it might have made sense in th early days of MMORPG's, but now days, with several new games on the horizon every year, I'd say it makes more sense to plan to play no more than a year or two.  That way you'll get a chance to experience a wide variety of play styles.

The longest game I've ever played was DAOC, (2.5 yrs) but I took breaks for Shadowbane and some others in between.  And I still regret never playing some of the early classics like EQ, AC and some others.

There is not a single, soloable instance in WoW (when done at the appropriate level).  Also, there are no 40-man raids anymore.  Since this is a total troll post, I'm sure you know this.

Personally, I'm burned out on WoW and will probably deactivate my account until Lich King, but the numbers for the game are still strong and it's not close to dieing.

The only game that will ever come close to WOW's demise is warhammer.

YAWN - Another Bi-weekly "WoW is gonna die" thread.

Firstly, on the EU side there was not one low pop server mid week, so that says to me that the population as a whole is still pretty healthy.

Secondly, i don't remember Blizz announcing that they were making instances 'soloable?' They did downgrade some of the 'elite' MOB's in some areas that were making it impossible to complete some of the quests solo.

Oh well, will sit and wait for the next 'death of WoW' thread, maybe some time around Tuesday i guess!

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

Another idiotic post coming from another idiot who has no clue. I play wow and was on yesterday and today most of the servers were either medium or heavy. I see people everywhere in the game be assured wow is not dieing at all ,it may be thriving better now than it ever has. This game is what 3 years old now and has yet to show a slow down name 1 mmo that has had this kind of success. Dude if you are tired of the game just quit and go play another and quit starting rumors just because you are not happy.

I stopped reading after the first sentence, because I have read this arguement enough.

EDIT:  Well I just read through it and laughed.  Yeah, you try soloing Stratholme at 60 ok?  In the meantime I'll be playing on my continually-growing server.

I don't play WoW anymore nor am I a big fan, but I have to thank Blizzard for really expanding the MMO market so that new developers see that if they build a good solid game the players will come.

WoW will endure for a long time -- and there's nothing wrong with that.

It's just that a wider choice of new high-quality MMOs would, overall, be a good thing.

3 years we been hearing this, some one plays the game for a few months.. finds it hard to make ingame friends and the handful of friends they do make decide to leave to reroll or just join real-life... then all of the sudden the player thinks people are leaving wow in the thousands every day and server are turning into ghost towns.

Theres a russian version of WoW coming soon.. so i fully expect a blizzard press release "WoW tops 12million active subscribers" or similar. currently at 9million so grabbing 3 million russians or even more wont be hard.

What is more interesting is wether the WoW doubters decide to discount Russian subs as they do Asia subs.

With a new expansion this year, SC2 this year (please please please) and hopfuly some info the next MMO the future is still bright for WoW and even brighter for Blizzard.

I must admit, I am quite worried people are saying this. I have only recently joined WoW in the last 9 months and I think it is a fantastic game and I would be really sad if anytime soon it died a death.

  • akritasakritas Member Posts: 76

I also find it always funny that ppl count the total subs all over the world when it comes to the question if wow is declining on the servers we play on. Ofc we as mmo players are interested in how lifely a gaming community is in which WE play and not the gaming communuties thousand of miles away. Just take an extreme example: if new games come out this year and ppl from Europa / North america are jumping to this games with the consequence that the servers there loose half their population and servers in Europe /NA are closing/merging. Now how the hell can it be of any interest for you as a gamer if wow is increasing its subs in Asia/Russia/India and any other countries if your gaming experience is that you feel communities are shrinking and dieing out ? or wait....yeah u gonna reroll on a chinese server then, right?

until you are not holding some stocks of blizz/vivendi and you are speaking as a gamer the only thing that could interest you is how the communities are doing YOU play in.

I only ever speak on behalf of the servers i play on as they are the only ones that i can see. The only people that tend to prattle on about the numbers in the Asian market are those that try and make the argument that "if it wasn't for the Chinese market, WoW wouldn't look so good," as if a few million subscribers isn't good anyway.

As for people jumping ship to other games later this year, well that is always going to happen, but the real measure will be how many stay in those other games and how many bounce back when they don't find what they expected.

None of us know what is around the corner and the 'WoW killer' could turn up out of the blue at any time, but for the time being it is a pretty safe bet that it will be around for another expansion at least :)

Don't worry about it. This game is huge. There's only about 3k players online on a high pop server at any given time. So long as WoW has 3k players left you'll have plenty of people to play with.

Yeah... I recently quit wow back in November the pvp content is very lacking, I quit once before and it was prior Burning Crusade.  They lost me after a while cause the kind of pvp content while i must admit gladiator arena fighting is cool and all it wasn't the only thing missing in the pvp.  They are intending to add one single area of contested pvping for controll that will actually be like it should I hope.  That is in the Frozen Throne expansion.  I've not been holding my breadth on this one that it'll actually be large enough to be worth it.

I think WOW is dying... and reviving.  I think lots of players from 3 years ago have grown weary of this game, only to be replaced by new folks who have heard about WOW.

WOW's secret?  Besides being polished and very well-designed, I think WOW has kept the low-level game alive.  I have always thought that when the low level game in a MMORPG starts to die out, then that's a bad sign (all you're left with is a dwindling base of veteran players).

WOW may last for years; maybe another four to five healthy years, maybe longer.

But again, they have kept the low-level starting areas, towns and cities thriving, while other games have allowed those similar places to turn into ghost towns.  Have to keep that "low-level" game active so that new players will be available to continuously replace old players.

On this subject, i was quite shocked that i actually had to queue for my main server last night and my son had to queue on two, which is the first time we have had to do that in a long time. It would seem that server populations are still pretty healthy at the moment :)

Sooner or later WoW will go into real decline. I give it 3 more years before they have to do a server merge and drop dead servers. This being said they will still need at least half of the servers. Eight years from now WoW will probably be down to maybe 20 servers and the pop will then be a .25 of what it is now but that is still going to be better than alot of MMOs are currently. WoW is the MMO for the masses, so something will need to come along to draw the masses away. In my opinion, when WoW closes its door it will only be because we will be jacking into our virtual worlds and all MMOs as we know it now will be gone.

WoW is in no danger of dying any time soon..Howevere it has been proven Time and Time again that MMOGdata pull numbers out of it's ass.

The guy lost any credibility back when he was saying WoW had 7.5 mil subs when even Blizzard was saying they only had 5 mil.
