I voted for Blizzard because they screwed any attempt at originality when it concerns the future of MMORPGs. Everyone wants to imitate them it seems... but can you blame them when you consider Blizzard's monumental success? Personally, I admire creativity and would love to see something fresh and unique.

So, because every other company out there is dumb and won't try anything innovative, Blizzard is to blame? No one blamed them in the RTS, MUD(RPG) markets....
(Just so it's clear, this implies Blizzard should NOT be blamed....)

Money is the root of all evil. As we all know time is money. Women take both time and money. Which would be women = time * money Therefore since time = money. So we have women = money * money. Therefore by squaring money which is the root of all evil we can mathematically derive that women are in fact evil.
You, my friend deserve some pie!
NO PIE FOR SUNDER!! If pie is as heavenly as you make it out to be, surely a woman would not be able to make it and taint it with her evil. Guess I am off the hook - back to making true deliciousness... BROWNIES!

Fixed.
Concerning your original post, I still disagree; Blizzard is like the Pokemon of MMORPGs and because of that I resent them. WoW isn't a terrible game, but we need more diversity in the MMO market. Also, comparing the RTS market to the MMORPG market is irrelevant because plenty of decent RTS games have been released in spite of WC and SC. Those two games didn't single-handedly stop the production of decent RTS games.
It will be a while before we see anything unique in terms of an MMORPG with some depth thanks to Blizzard and the sheep that follow them. Or there's always hope that Blizzard will eventually release a new MMORPG that possesses some actual depth. That WILL be the day.... heh. I seriously doubt that Blizzard's monopoly over the MMO market will change any time soon. And if Bioware's MMO imitates the "Blizzard-formula," I'll just be disgusted.
Personally, Blizzard disappointed me the most. They started off with a great concept and great developers, then brought in the EQ FoH people and turned a fun, casual friendly game into "Raid or Die". They poorly moderate their official forums (I know I'm not the only one that has seen multiple harrassing posts with links to nood photobuckets of various players lasting for days on realm forums). They expect the non-raiding population to buy expansions and pay subscriptions to pay for the free raid content development that seems to be the only content that is free. Yeah, go ahead and say that dailies with their garbage rep reward were designed for casual players. No, they were designed so hardcore raiders could farm consumable/repair costs in a reasonable time. PvP? PvP as it is now is a bandaid solution designed to try to keep players from going to games designed specifically for the style of play. PvP is not what most casual WoW players want. Yeah, great fun being feared/stunned/silenced/sheeped until your inevitable death so you can feed some basement dwellers ego because having no control of your character while running around for 15 seconds until your death is the height of entertainment. When WoW was originally released, the battles at Southshore/Tarren Mills were perfect. This was not a broken system, but blizzard went overboard with their dishonorable kills system (which they eventually did away with) and killed the only fun PvP in the game. Let me ask, when's the last time they released a 5 man dungeon free? The answer would be, way before The Burning Crusade (Dire Maul). I thought SoE was pretty indifferent to their player's concern and the way EA jerked the rug out from under the feet of E&B players was pretty tasteless, neither is blameless, but for the company that I think failed ME the most (notice I say me, because I'm sure blizzard feels that other players want exactly what they're pushing), I would have to go with Blizzard.
These guys just make a product that you the consumer have the right to pay for or not pay for.
What is going on in Darfur is evil.
People need to get over the hate of Video game companies, does this not seem a bit trivial to you. They didnt kill your dog or take your girlfriend or punch your mom, they just made a game you didnt like or changed a game you did like. Dont give them your business but get over the "THEY ARE EVIL" crap.
They are companies trying to make money. Sometimes what they do works and sometimes it doesnt. But i can guarentee you that Smed and the head guy of Lucas Arts were not sitting at a table one day and talking about how they can completely ruin SWG and make all the players quit so they can make less money.
I really dont get how people keep blaming blizzard for screwing the originality out of the mmorpg market. Fair enough they created all the old generic type of mmorpg, and did it in such a way as to make it hugly popular, and now other companies want to follow. IMO i would be blamming those other campanies for not wanting to try anything new, jsut because blizzard has made a massive mmo thats generic doesent mean its the only way your going to make a successful mmo, i blame those other companies for being short sighted and not wanting to try anything new themselves.

Why do any of them have to be the incarnation of evil?
Some companies have games that some people like and other companies have the other games that people like....
I mean, you are not a Lemming right?
Play with your dollar...simple as that...
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
I demand an explanation!
