I too was an Earth and Beyond player, I miss those days and can't wait to sink my teeth into Jumpgate Evolution.

My only problem with the original Jumpgate was the grinding of the same 6 different missions over and over and how empty space felt.  Hermann's already told us that both are being remedied in the new game.

Talking with Hermann directly really got my Psyched for the game, which was why I started Beacon Prime, a fansite dedicated to Jumpgate Evolution.

I hadn't heard of Jumpgate before, so when people started saying this game would be an expansion to the other I did some research. It turned out that JPE is a completely new game and I'm glad.

I used to play the original Elite on the BBC micro and later all the wing commander games on the PC. Later still the Privateer series etc. I LOVE space sims that have trading/economy aspects. Building a ship and using it to fight is great, but I also hear there might be guild owned cap ships to carry guild fighters!

Great idea. Can't wait. Any idea at all how long development is planned for this game?

Never heard of Jumpgate before missed out on the old game. Will not make the same mistake on this one. It's actually what I have been looking/waiting for. A space mmorpg with a flight simulator feel to it!

I played Jumpgate when it first came out and played for about 1 1/2 years.  I had a great time.  Met some awesome people and was my first experience into organized team pvp.

As some of the previews and developer's journals have hinted at, the gravity system (essentially conservation of momentum) made it a tough learning curve and was probably one of the main reasons why the game did not appeal to that many people.  It didn't help that the publisher (3DO I think) was a dud.

I'm signed up and ready for a change from WoW.  Been playing that game for entirely too long.

I've been playing JG for 8 years, and i have to say its great best game ever IMO and while it might not have thousands of players, it is still going quite strong, im playing it as we speak, i encourage anyone interested in JGE to sign up for JGC 10 day free trials, what do you have to lose?

I never played the original Jumpgate and am very interested in JE.

I just hope that they get the controls just right. I want to steer, shoot, etc mostly from my mouse.

In Infinity-Online's demo, they seem to have a good control scheme:

    1. You steer with the mouse (like WoW, Ryzom, and Entropia Universe).
    2. Moving your mouse left/right causes your ship to turn left/right (e.g. like the "rudder" on an airpl;ane).
    3. Holding down the right mouse button and moving your mouse left/right rolls your ship either way.
    4. Mouse wheel contols throttle
    5. Left mouse shoots your active weapon.
    6. Keyboard hot-keys allow you to switch cockpit views (toggle between 3rd person, 1st person, etc).
    7. Keyboard also lets you switch between weapons.

I'm not new. I'm an old jumpgate player who left long ago due to dwindling playerbase and really outdated graphics :)

Very excited about the new version :) Will definitely be getting this.

    To the above poster:
I suspect they'll add mouse support but they may not. Original jumpgate used keyboard and/or Joystick.

I am 110% interested as long as it does not turn out to be a level based MMO game, otherwise i will skip it and continue to wait till a MMO company actually gets off the cookie-cut lazy train and develops something new and worth purchasing.

I am interested in JGE, so I decided to sign up for the JG trial and have had nothing but problems since.  JG's website says my account is cancelled while the billing site says it is active.  And I have not heard back from support.  This is a very poor introduction to the game series and company running it, I hope they can sort this out before it affects my opinion of JGE.

The sign up is on the home page http://www.jumpgateevolution.com/ At the top right. There is no date for when it begins, but probably late 2008

Definately. I was an Earth and Beyond subscriber, and I miss a good sci-fi mmo.

I have been a bit skeptical with the game but after the last few notes and interviews I am definitely interested in trying this out.

Never played Jumpgate, it sounded interesting, but let's just say, the screenshots didn't exactly grab me.  I'm curious enough about JGE that I'll almost definitely give it a try.

Also, I like the idea of a longstanding MMO getting a second launch.  Means the devs have had lots of time to see what works, what doesn't, what would really add to the game, and all that.  Evolution's a good word for it, but most game's are dying by the time they get to that point.  JGE, OTOH, looks like it could be much bigger than the original.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

I never played the original either, but this looks interesting. I'll probably give it a go :D

I'm keeping my eye on this one,  I was an Earth & Beyond alpha / beta tester and player. Tried playing the original Jumpgate but got frustrated when I kept slamming into the dock lol.  I've gotten alot more patience since then so am willing to give it a go with the newest incarnation, until then I'll be in EvE.

This is definately my 'Most Anticipated' game in production at this point. While I enjoy fantasy titles, I really like sci fi themes better.

The thought of a MMO that plays more like XvT or Wing Commander is just too much potential fun to miss out on!
