Will you be there day one or wait two weeks to let the chaos settle?

I know this is a difficult question to ask, seeing as this is a WAR fan populated forum...

BUT I get the feeling many here have been through a launch or two of an MMO and know that even the best, most smooth launch can be nothing but CHAOS.

So I've been debating, over and over, do I actually TRY to weather the chaos of launch day, or do I do the adult thing and wait two weeks.   It's a touch choice.  On one hand you have the overwhelming NEED to play WAR, which I have, I must play it.  On the flip side... uhm, nothing aggrivates me more then 500 people running around trying to do the same thing and getting anything done being nearly impossible.   Of course, my luck is I choose the server that is REALLY popular and get slammed by lag, login issues, and of course, the inevitable crash because.. well... it happens.

But if you wait you may lose that name you MUST have, then of course there is that rush you get playing in the mass of people, discovering all the new things you can first...

Choices, it's tough.

I am going to play at the begining....in about 24 hours nobody will be doing the same quests I will be doing so eh I will start on launch

Like you, I to have given this some thought as well. I've been through "Day One" launches for games / expansions and have to argee that it does test one's nerves.

Most likely I will brave the water and atempt to play on launch.

As far as your problem with the name scenerio goes just install the game and play around with your character creation, choose your name, and log in.

That way you have a character waiting with your name and class ready to join the war a week or two down the line.

I usually wait a day or 2 before I go out and buy the box, just so they can fix the servers if it gets stressed by the massive influx of players.

    Bollocks!

If you miss out on launch day, you miss out on the atmosphere, which is always fun.

Sure, it may be buggy/laggy/crashy, but that is all part of the experience. I find it fun, to be honest. No, this is not me saying a crappy game is okay, and I hope the launch is problem-free, but I forgive early jitters and try to enjoy it.

Plus, there is always that feeling of being there at the beginning, and there are usually some good stories that come out of it.

Depends on the open beta performance just a couple of days before release.

I can see that, always makes a good story to tell to your guildies and firends, I dunno I may try it on launch day, depends on if its a day I can spare.

    Bollocks!

im waiting a week after launch. Any big bugs will have been corrected, and the lines for quests /mobs will have come down to acceptable levels.   There still be plenty of people rerolling a different class in the noob zones, so finding other people won't be a problem.

I have never experienced an opening of a game, and I am tempted to do so with WAR, as I am 100% sure that I will buy that title (the same goes for AoC, but that's another story). :)

I will be playing from day one. But remember WaR is going to let people who pre order  the game play a few days (maybe a week) before it officially opens, thats going to be their version of an open beta.

So it shouldnt be as bad as other games on release day.

I'll be there on launch day.

Since I'm the Pacific time zone though I'll probably be a bit behind the curve, even if I start a midnight.

Depends on what game I am playing at the time and what the open beta players say about the readiness of WAR for launch. I want to reach lvl 70 in WoW and be ready to unlock Death Knight when WOTLK is released, so that is my first priority. AoC is also launching before WAR, so if that game is any good, I will want to max that game out first as well. Once that is finished, I will try play WAR until I max that game out and hopefully by then WoW's next expansion will be released.

Then I will unlock Death Knight and play that until there is nothign worthwhile to do anymore, move on the AoC and complete any new introductions to that game, and then to WAR and repeat as often as there are new updates. As it is now, no game offers enough of something or enough variety to keep playing a game more than 6 months. So switching between 2-3 games isn't a bad idea. You get to switch things up a bit and still experience all there is to offer in the genre.

MMORPG's w/ Max level characters: DAoC, SWG, & WoW

    Currently Playing: WAR
Preferred Playstyle: Roleplay/adventurous, in a sandbox game.

The insanity of the first 24 hours of a MMORPG launch is part of the fun!    I'll be there :)

  • Shifty360Shifty360 Member Posts: 629

I played SWG at release and the first few days were absolutely fantastic. I have yet to surpass the amount of fun I experienced that first week of play in any MMO thus far.

I know WAR will be even better and I cannot wait!

I will play to an extent launch day. Mostly what I do on every launch I have been apart of is make my characters. I take forever looking through all the info on character creation and customization. After I make a few characters I will log one on and see what the stability looks like. Lag, any crashes ect. If they seem ok I may take an hr or 2 with each of the characters I am thinking about to see what I want to focus on first. If they arent verry stable or the lagg is awefull I will try the next day and the next untill I feel I am not going to just get frustrated.

Although If the launch is like......cant believe I am going to say this but.....if the launch is like WoW the first day can be decieving. I was one of the first people to log in after midnight and the lagg and servers where fine. It was a day or 3 after that there troubles started.

Server lag, login issues, missed bugs, crashes, massively populated starter zones, etc. are all regular parts of the dreaded launch day/week. Some people choose to wait it out, but there are the hardcore (or delirious) that will wade through all these setbacks.

I will probably be one of the delirious.

I'm usually one of the first max levels on the server I play. Then again, i'm not very sociable (7%!), and tend to outlevel the populace which gives me plenty of open space for whatever I want to do. When they start to migrate from the starter zone to the next, I'm on to the third tier. That's how it's happened in the past.

As far as naming I try to make as many characters allowed as possible right at the beginning with names I use. Just placeholders for my names really. I'll come back later and delete/remake to customize the character.

with what warhammer betas are saying and with what aoc beta testers are saying (dont these folks know what an nda is anymore?)i think it will be a good laugh to see who will be more screwed up at launch, warhammer or aoc. no happy campers on either side atm.

can you smell that?!!...............there is nothing quite like it.....................the smell of troll in the morning............i love that smell.

  • miagisanmiagisan Member Posts: 5,156

i'll wait a few weeks. I am really on the fence with this game atm, though sounds cool...i am not a huge fan of the fantasy genre.

(Wishes Bioware would announce a new Star Wars mmo already /crosses fingers)

I plan on being there at launch....not lunch, launch....

Mythic didnt do me wrong with DAoC...I don't think they will do me wrong with WAR....

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

the only game i have been playing in release date of mmo´s is WOW... I didnt logon at 00:00, but waited for the next day when i got home. No problems doing quests =) Though, when TBC was released i was home 1 hour after the expansion was activated and ppl was running around, killing the same mobs for the same quest. So, i logged off after getting 61 ½, and logged on the nxt day, and the chaos was over.

It was really fun, but also annoying to be there at midnight, but i guess ill be there at release of WAR =)

I will be there the opening day. Will take a day off for it.

  • impulsebooksimpulsebooks Member Posts: 561

I will be there opening day, but not if they don't get there finger out and let me preorder the damn thing! Why is it that other games can be advertised a year in advance on places like Amazon.co.uk but not Warhammer Grrrrrhhrhrh!

I've avoided the launch on my last 2 main MMO's - WoW and LOTRO and I'll be doing the same with WAR too.

End of the day I only ever used to get in on day 1 to keep up with the top levels but the days when I had time to do that are long gone.

So I've accepted my fate now and never fight it out with the masses in the first month.

I'll be there day one.  I'll take a few days off work so that I can truly enjoy myself.  I have been waiting for WAR for a long time and just can't wait to play it.  Will there be launch problems?  Probably.  Will there be swarms of people all trying to do the same quests?  Assuredly.  Can I ignore them and run out and pvp day 1?  Definitely.  In the end, as long as i get to mutate a few times and mutilate some people, i'll be happy.
