Age of Conan: Release Pushed Back

All that matters is that it comes out good.  Sure now I do have to live though 2 more months of TR, but who cares if AoC launches smooth with all the content they promised at launch, instead of waiting 2 months to get any of it.  Pushing a game back is only annoying to the fans till it launches, but can also give lots of good press when every one is happy with a finished game.

So they have huge Fanfare and tell everyone the game's release date is confirmed, show off their spanky cool collectors editition ,tell everyone to go ahead and pre order ..........

and hey presto a couple of days later they announce the game's getting put back another two months....

now I a neutral really and yep I am looking forward to this game as it looks very very cool, but what bothers me they must have known this was going to happen at least a week or two ago surely ! I could understand if they had started an open beta or stress test and noted serious problems, but they hav'nt, they had the same closed beta tester's for weeks and weeks now. So between all the hype and just a few days what did this descision arise from ?........

    very strange indeed !

I agree, we want a good release.  But it makes you wonder with all these firm dates followed up by delays if the folks at Funcom really know what they are doing and have the ability to pull off a good release.

Oh well, nothing else to do but wait.  Guess I'm just letting my disappointment show.

I am glad they are gonna make sure the game is polished and ready for the masses.  Me and many others asked the devs to wait on releasing Vanguard for just a little more work, but they didn't. This could easily be the players saying it needs just a little more time and the devs actually listening. And again I am all for that.

I think that WAR and AoC are aiming at two different groups of gamers for the most part. Yeah their are some that are on the fence, but for the most part they are two different groups. From what I have seen, and I may be a bit off, I think WAR is going more the WoW route and looking to one up WoW in every aspect to pull as many players as they can.  AoC on the other hand is focusing on the older player base looking for something a little different, but still similar(so as not to offend),than the model most MMO players are used to today.

I am sure both will be good games, and am sure both sides know this. But now it is gonna be up to how well the game preforms for players and their first impressions.   This is gonna be just like Vanguard and LotR.  Vanguard and LotR are both good games,IMO Vanguard was better and offers alot more, but the release was early and it just wasn't ready. Word got out quick and most everyone on the fence or just waiting went on over to LotR.

So again I will state that I think this was a good move for AoC. But only time will tell...

I saw this happening after they announced they started dropping things, that or either the same whould be missing core bits on realease, which then would have destroyed thier promise of a 'complete' title..

Good call though, It's a tall order to pull off. we've seen a lot of realeases resently that have told us one thing and apon release the content we are expecting isn't there and the gameplay we bought it for isn't there meaning the game isn't the game we want to play it for.

both Funcom and Mythic are set to break this trend, and if this means delays more so, I don't mind as long as it'll kill the above situation, we pay for a game for centain features we expect it when we buy it.. not 6-7 months later

    Bring on the WARRRRGGHH!

I m waiting for WAR more anyways and was going to try this if it came uot much earlier now that it s not my wife, friends and i will be waiting for WAR and skipping this entirely unless WAR get pushed back even more which it could. Waiting is never an issue but if you set an actual date then a few days later say it s pushed back more why noit just say in the beginning release in 2008 and thats it. Then when it s released in march, april, may or whenever no one would complain because there isn t a real set date. I agree it s looking a little fishy like it s not even remotely close at all and they re just saying a couple months at a time which is a really bad move if this is the case.

Again, it surprises me that so many people thought this would be released at its second delay date. Were you guys born yesterday? Every game pushes its date back. Every single game has done it. Even the almighty Oblivion was pushed back a few months, and it was still great. The next GTA has already been pushed back once. Don't expect the impossible.

For those of you thinking WAR will be released in Q2; it won't be.

{MOD EDIT}  The last 2 release dates were meant for supposed polish.  So this time its for more polish?????  Bloody hell they can kepe saying they are going to push the game back all the time and you people would constaly say your happy. This game has already missed 4-5 release dates, this is not bloody polish the game mechanics and design of the game are damn poor.  There is no way in hell they are going to open this game up for open beta.   Next gen mmo yeah right.

People wake up this game is going to be worse than vanguard.

I am AOC Fanboy since it was announced.

It was supposed to be released 2006 but it was pushed back. I was disappointed...

It was supposed to be released 2007 but it was pushed back. I was disappointed...

It was supposed to be released 2008 ( march)  but it was pushed back. I am loosing patience....

I allready think it is not the fact that game lacks POLISH. If you polish a COAL for 3 years it would turn into DIAMOND......no

I think something is really wrong with AOC.

They had a great plan , but in practice it doesn't really work out. So they returned to drawing board ( this was "combat rework" push back for 8 months ). Again great plan , but again it does not work out.

The artists and coders are not to blame. Something is wrong with game design.

And do not forget that a game design was supposed to be aimed for 2006 , not 2008.

Right now FC is gripping for straws. They have to release something, anything at all. They started scrapping features , like you throw weight from a sinking ship.

They are taking 8 weeks break to implement some "eye candy" that will at least make starting zones look good.

The fact i anticipated AOC so much , only makes me understand this more.

You re probably right War won t be released Q2 we ll see but the fact they didn t say June 3 for example and Q2 makes it much easier to swallow if it s actually sometime in july or august. The point is they said a certain date , sold a bunch of pre orders, CE etc then pushed it back again. Is it smart because they actually sold a bunch maybe, but if it gets pushed back again after this which i m sure it will , it will piss off alot of people even more then now.

first of all .- cause someone think different it dont means that is a fanboy.

second .- As said before in other post, this game was delayed, when this happened lot of people said that its sucks, and that war will be "the one". And this last will be not delayed. Bit later WaR was delayed for second time. (and can be a third one) that dot means, aoc, or war, will be bad games, they got their reasons to delay it.

third .- A game with a name is a game with dat name, is not AO, not Vanguard, not wow; stop comparing everything cause not ever the things repeat in the same way before.

Lets just hope that things don't get any worse.  All this doom and gloom talk makes me sad

  • mindspatmindspat Member Posts: 1,367

I'll purchase and be playing the game whenever it launches, no matter how far it's pushed out.

The children who do the ranting about release dates need to get a life.  Crying about delays of an mmo only show how immature you all are.

Could someone be kind enough to list ALL the ideas and concepts which were scrapped from Age of Conan?  I'm only aware of some character classes being consolidated; modular player cities still in?

As noted, if you're overly butt hurt about this and don't know how to spend the time, try getting a girlfriend or reading a book.

Im really mad about the push back but, hey better game and, i think the open beta will put a smile to those sad faces.

    Thank you Conan!!

I have been so worried about the state of the game. I really am glad to see the Devs have the balls to post pone the launch until the game is ready.

Take all the time you need, that's my opinion.  Let's face it, we have enough crappy or mediocre mmo's right now.  I don't want to see what could be a great game stymied by technical difficulties.

AoC, is like the father that says he is going to come home but never does and always disappoints his child.  It's good that they want to make a polished game... but every time I see a release date I am like Woohoo!  I can finally play this game... then bam... shot down again.

  • checkthis500checkthis500 Member Posts: 1,236

I agree to let them take the time they need, but giving hard dates and then changing them is my issue.

Oct. 30th, March 28th, now May 20th.  I just wish they'd give Quarters, so that you can tell they're aiming for an area of time, rather than a specific date.

Also to hear Lobotomist say something like that really causes me to worry as well.  He's pointing out some great things.

EDIT: To templarga.  Oct. 30th of last year was the first expected release date.

I see this comment a lot, and I generally agree with it.  However, at some point (after 4 or 5 push backs maybe?) continual push backs begin to be viewed as a bad thing.  It's starting to look like they're just picking release dates out of the air.  They're far enough off to say that they're using the time to polish the game, but they're close enough to keep hype and anticipation high.  I have no faith at all that the game will actually be released on 5/20/08.  Maybe it will, maybe it won't.  It's a crap shoot at this point.  From here on out, I'm just taking the stance that it'll be released when it's released.  I'm not buying into any more hype, and I'm taking their release dates as seriously as they are (not at all).

Here! Here!  I'll drink to that my friend.  No more hype...tell the truth or just keep your dates to yourself!

Well, it maybe better for the game.  For me, I am just losing interest w/ every push back.  I guess I will just have to wait when I go to Gamestop and see it on the shelf a year from now.
