They are SO going to lose business to WAR now. The many, many folks who were going to try AoC because they couldn't wait until the much later release of WAR in June will now just stick it out until WAR is released. I mean really, why bother wasting your money on AOC when WAR will come out just a few weeks later?
Well, at least this confirms the rumors that AoC was in terrible shape to be released so soon.

I wouldn't play WAR if it came out before AoC. I just don't like what I see of it. *shrug* But hey, that's just my opinion. *smirk*

not that many peopel will switch games just becuase the other one is comming out just a little bit earlier...
It kinda of hurt my plans, I was figuring on playin Aoc for a few months madly, do everything i could, wait for WAR, and then jump into WAR. Then I'd have a chance to pick between the two. Between the two, with what I have seen,I am far more likely I think to continue playing WAR over Aoc. Aoc will still get my money for at least 2 months anyway at this rate.
But no matter what, I will have fun.
Seriously, I'm glad you said that. I was beginning to wonder if all people cared about anymore was bashing each others game to pieces.

The idea that a MMO company will lose business because of a delay on release is a foolish thought in the post-vanguard era.
If anything this just means a lot of people looking for something other than WOW will look towards both Mythic and Funcom because they show responsible behavior increasing their business.
This was a very smart move on their part, seeing as how this game was the second coming of Vanguard they did the right thing by waiting to release it.
At least they are listening to their beta testers as well "Don't release this game like this!!"
You have to realize there are a lot of simple minded, tunnel vision asshats that browse forums to hold the banner of their games greatness. It's a fundamental flaw of humans to think everyone else should be and think like them "reason we have racism and other unwanted behaviours in the world".
I was actually thinking of trying AoC at one point. But this only confirms my fears that AoC will only end up being the fantasy version of Anarchy Online. AO was one of my worst experiences as an MMO player. I don't trust Funcom at all. At least Mythic has a track record of successful and fun games and they don't over-promise.
I need to rant here.
You really mean to say that you are not going to bother wasting your money, because I hardly think you are in a position to speak for everyone, particularly fans of Age of Conan who are interested in the game and will purchase it, for better or worse - only time will tell. A lot of people are interested in it, at any rate.
I hate threads like this, especially when they are done in a narrow-minded, gloating manner. It is as though some people take pleasure in a "rival" game's miseries, but why? At least this one tries to conceal it but you can almost see the smile shining through the words.
I have little interest in playing AoC myself, and will definitely be playing WAR, but I can at least acknowledge AoC has its fans and I do not revel in it being delayed or in any other problems it has. I want it to succeed because other games do not get better when fellow games fail - the whole genre just gets a little worse as a whole.
I read both forums and am always shocked about the anti-WAR rhetoric there and the anti-AoC rhetoric here, as if they are engaged in some epic battle where the stakes are its fans' sense of self-worth. I am even more bothered by the anti-AoC ones from WAR fans because it reflects a bit upon all of us, and I really do not like being painted with the same brush. Fair criticism is fine, but just slagging a game is not.
So, please, I beg everyone to be a bit more open-minded, if not supportive. Stand back and think hard about making simplistic comments just because you do not care for something. Making a thread about a delay for another game in its competition's thread is just spiteful and unnecessary, unless one is actually going to discuss its relevance instead of just basically saying, "Ha, they will lose customers, the game is a waste of money."
Nothing more than opportunistic bullying, which is about as cowardly as kicking someone when they are down.
Well I for one gained more respect for AoC in the delay because with the type of game they are trying to release it was bound to be buggy and laggy with all the mess they had packed into it at this point. I think this was a responsible decision and I will be more likely to purchase AoC now and try it till WAR comes out and then choose my favorite.
It really is a battle for numbers with these two games with a large amount of the MMO population so WAR should try their best to not delay!

Lonely up there on your box Sornin? lol. But yea I'm with ya all the way. I mean I may not like AoC a whole lot, but I don't want it to fall in a flaming fail of epicness. I mean this genre has enough bad games and problems I don't think we need another one just for the fanbois to stroke their e-peens.
Bollocks!
I don't understand why people see the need ot make threads like this. Both games have merits and both games have the potential to be fun and enjoyable. I want both games to come out when they are ready and I want both games to succeed. if they felt a delay was needed then good on them. It won't have an impact on their overall player base and may even increase it since people will be more confident the game was put out when ready and not rushed.
Good and Funcom for doing what they believed was necessary and not rushing it out the door.
FUNCOM deserves applause
It's about time that we see developers who are willing to devote the time (and money) so they can try to release a working game rather than a pay-to-beta piece of trash. People forget that releasing unfinished junk was a common practice in the MMORPG industry and MMORPG players tolerated it and paid for it.
No more.
The market has changed and the industry is changing with it. That is something to cheer.
Now I will say that Funcom needs to show better planning. The recent letter on the official website says that they were still expecting a March launch as late as last week. If there were major problems (and anything that pushes back a release date is major) then developers should be able to see them quicker than that.
But if that just means that Funcom has to delay again in May, I hope to heck they show the same guts and do so. And we should ALL support them if they do, the industry needs examples like that.
Fortunately, everyone here already knows that we don't have to worry about Mythic and WAR when it comes to this. I'm just glad that they give us more warning when they make release date changes, it helps to soften the blow.
FC had no choice but to delay the game. The word on the street is that the game has the following issues:
Lag. FC swore AO would be lag free because of how they set up their server protocols... yeah it still doesn't really work. They have tried to make what most people realize is impossible, an MMO with "real time combat".
Not gonna happen unless they force you to play on a regional server. For example, I won't play CS on any server outside of Dallas because of lag. Can you imagine what the "real time combat" lag would be playing on a server in NYC when you live in Texas against people in Norway for example?
Of course there are issues with the classes and other things, but everything I have read around the internet says FC is going to hit a brick wall and have to change their combat system.
Personally I hope the game works out and is a success, competition is good for all gamers. That eing said, every class can train stealth.. I'll cheer the AoC folks on from the stealth free WAR servers.
Always change your signature.
I wouldn't count stealth out of WAR atm.
Just mark those words.
The point of this post is to point out that Funcom is going to lose out on a lot of money in the next 2-3 months. That is fact. Not only are they losing money in the MMO market, they are also losing money by spending more time into a game that isn't finished. Now I can think objectively, this was obviously something that needed to happen. You don't follow in VG's footsteps and launch an unfinished beta as a polished game. Only time will tell whether or not they will succeed long term.
However, you cannot argue that they are losing a lot of subscriptions early on because of this. Ofcourse you will have the AoC fans that will buy and play the game no matter when it is released. Then, obviously you have the people who will never play AoC for any reason, unless Warhammer becomes vaporware, which has no chance of happening. Then, and most importantly, you have a LOT of people who are on the fence. These are the people who are unsure of what they want, they are willing to try both games to see which one entertains them the most. Now, instead of AoC getting a 2+ month jump on it's competition, it will be fighting for subs in a direct competition. That war they will not win, the mind-set of your average gamer has been brainwashed and molded to love WoW. War has a lot more similarities and will be chosen over AoC, a rogue type game.
So they've lost the money for the 2-3 month period where it would have no competition for WoW's subs, it lost money directly due to the competition it will see at release by WAR, and it's lost money finishing the game. Like I said, time will tell if the push back works in the long run.
My honest opinion. AoC will find it's niche in the MMO genre, just like LoTRO did. It will have enough players to be successful, but WAR will have the majority of the gaming population tied up by default. Due to it having many more similarities to WoW. Not only that, there is a fanbase already completely devoted to the game, all of the table-top players will chose WAR as well.
I'm not bashing, I'm being realistic. I hope AoC succeeds.

Ummmm. You meant to say WoW right. Surely you aren't saying WAR will default as the majority of the MMO population.
Don't be too sure WAR will release around that time. There's some minor buzz going around that it could be pushed back again.
I don't really believe that many people will not play either based on push backs. Sure they may make a post or thread and state they aren't because now it's going back to X month, but it's just them venting frustration is all. You'll still most likely see them on release day.
For those waiting on a fence though, well that just all depends on which side you were leaning to. There are still plenty of people who would pick AoC over WAR if their release dates were proximate.
" I mean really, why bother wasting your money on AOC when WAR will come out just a few weeks later?"
We know what side you are leaning to

I will give the suggestion right back to you. What most people in this thread were probably annoyed about, was the little portion that I highlighted. And that's not simply making a statement. Besides, as I said in my own post, -without- bashing the OP, was that there will be more than enough people who will prefer AoC over WAR, not because they got some silly feud going on, but simply because they like the Conan Universe more than the Warhammer Universe.See, I am sick and tired of elves, dwarves, orcs and all that. I don't care if Warhammer had them before WoW, but they've been overdone for me. I prefer the gritty, harsh, elf-free world of Conan, which is why I will play AoC, regardless of when WAR will come out. I'm not saying that WAR will be a bad game, and I am not hoping for it to fail. I wish the game all the best and I am rather sure it will be successful with their playerbase, but that doesn't change that I will not play it.
The OP was discrediting AoC and putting WAR above AoC, not in a subjective kind of way, but in a generalization. That was what annoyed people. *shrug* I can see their point. This senseless bashing of other games is really annoying.

In a way I can see where the op is coming from but that statement can be taken different ways. For me I am interested in both Aoc and War. I am more interested in war by a long shot, it just fits my likeing better. Aoc looked interesting because it didnt follow some of the basic things mmos follow. I saw the ranger video and thought it looked cool. I was planning on buying it a couple weeks after the march release and play it until war came out. Not that I would have stopped playing Aoc after war came out I just would use it more of a casual game, while war would be my main game to play. Now with the pushback and the dates being so close I dont really know what I am going to decide. I may still paly Aoc eventually but I mainly just want to play war. I guess I'll just see how Aoc goes. Now if the game wasnt finished then they should push it back absolutely, no one wants an unfinished game. Thats why I have supported war pushing the date back. A buggy came that doesnt grab my attention will just have me looking for a different mmo so overall its a good call to push it back.
I was going to get AoC as something to mess around on until WAR. I really dont know to be honest. I really do hope it does well for the players that have been waiting such a long time for it. I just think there are some major problems with it and its a good thing they pushed it back. As far as Im consernd I dont think I will be getting it at all now. I dont think that matters to much because I had not planned to play it for long anyway. Best of luck to the AoC fan base and I really hope it does do better than what everyone expects and they have a great game to play.

Erm, the exact reason why i choose AoC instead of WAR is that it's probably not even close to wow which i hate, i'm a devoted WFB tabletop player and still i'm going to choose AoC. I just hope that more experienced (mature) players will stick with AoC and the WoWsers keep it in WAR.
Someone also said that they dont trust Funcom because of what AO was, well remember how DAoC (Mythic's game) was when it was released? . 6 weeks of uber lagness.
Thats it for me. I personally lost all hope in AOC.
I planned to play it over WAR , but not i definetly changed my mind.
Only thing that can make me change my mind now is EA billing more than 15$ monthly
hope aoc has some trials which i can spam till WAR is here ^^
