It's about time that we see developers who are willing to devote the time (and money) so they can try to release a working game rather than a pay-to-beta piece of trash.    People forget that releasing unfinished junk was a common practice in the MMORPG industry and MMORPG players tolerated it and paid for it.
    No more.
The market has changed and the industry is changing with it.     That is something to cheer.
Now I will say that Funcom needs to show better planning.   The recent letter on the official website says that they were still expecting a March launch as late as last week.     If there were major problems (and anything that pushes back a release date is major)  then developers should be able to see them quicker than that.
But if that just means that Funcom has to delay again in May, I hope to heck they show the same guts and do so.   And we should ALL support them if they do, the industry needs examples like that.
Fortunately,  everyone here already knows that we don't have to worry about Mythic and WAR when it comes to this.      I'm just glad that they give us more warning when they make release date changes, it helps to soften the blow.

The more companies who follow the "release when its ready" model, the better the MMO industry as a whole will be.  Bravo Funcom, bravo.

Only thing that can make me change my mind now is EA billing more than 15$ monthly

I hope you like a WoW replica. More of the same with updated graphics. Again I praise Funcom for their decision. Take all the time you guys need to make this MMO kick WAR and WOW ass although it already has reached that point..

Well, just on a side note. Most of the feature there is present at the current moment seems that Age of Connn just be renamed to Age of Warcraft.

Well, at least this confirms the rumors that AoC was in terrible shape to be released so soon.

Because of people like you I'm gonna buy AoC first anyway and stick to it if it's fun

Yeah, this is rediculous... AoC's third postponement, I mean seriously STOP GIVING A RELEASE DATE!!! And they would not run in to this problem... But anyways, they seriously just lost me as a fan and a follower... So WAR I am all yours...

Ahh Epic Failure at trying to hide your Trollness honestly if your going to help your friends publically break NDA atleast be plausable and not immediately whip out the 'creds' which pretty much mean nothing.

You've not busted my bubble I'm perfectly happy with all that I know about WAR (and hope that its 2 dollars more expensive so certain posters here will stay away). I have no ill will towards AoC or its fans other than its guild heavy relianceness and major instancing.

I have ill towards people who like to slam games and cite a bunch of BS then tout some other game as if its the only game thats capable of being fun to people. Every gamer is looking for something that fits their particular likes & dislikes some people are totally into Guilding and the belief that guilds are far more important than anything and anyone and some people aren't into that. Some people like instancing and some don't. Some like live action combat in small skirmishes and some people like the tradition of mmo's and majorly huge battles. When WAR and AoC release it'll officially (unless one or both games epically fail at bringing us what they promised) give the MMO market a broader range of play styles instead of the same generic or simplified playstyles that have been the norm as of the last couple of years. Both games & their hopeful successes will do alot for the MMO industry & fans of MMOs.

IF your friends were beta testers they should be supplying the Dev's with their constructive opinions & suggestions in order to better the game not F2P ing it so they can say ooh its gonna get pwn'd.

hmm.... to me, the real significance of the AoC push will not be that they will now loose money to WAR, instead I think it will be that WAR will have less pressure to release, and hence, will most likely push their release date as well.

The only things that motivate any company to release a product is a combination of the existing ongoing costs, and what the competition is doing. If competition is weak, and you got money, then just wait and make  a better product, right?

(I think we've had the same kind of thing happening with video cards: ATI releases some crap, and then nvidia gets to loaf. Then a game like Crysis gets released. Now there is no card in existence that will run it fully cranked. )

Competition brings out the best in people / companies. And we customers should welcome it, and cheer it on in all it's forms...

I will be honest, I will try both WAR and AoC (and whatever else I get my hands on), I have high hopes for both, but till I have tried them I am undecided. As some others here I was hoping to try AoC first (since it was supposed to come out first) and then try WAR and the delay of AoC haven't changed anything: I will try them both and then cancel the other subscription, and you know what I will still do this no matter how closely together they come out (or in which order).

Pushing back the release (especially for X-th time) is a very serious decision with very harsh economic consequences, and I respect any company that has the guts to do this. Funcom and their partners wish to deliver a good product, rather then grab some fast and easy cash, and that is a good sign in my book.

The exact release date of WAR is not yet set in stone, and I for one will not be surprised much if the "second quarter" they currently aim for gets pushed back for one reason or another (although I am quietly hoping it will not).

No matter when they will release, 2008 will be the Clash Of The Titans(tm) two strong newcomers coming up not only against each other but against the established league, who can blame them to want to be as prepared as possible? Certainly not me, I think that we have had enough of AOs and Vanguards, etc - titles that get rushed and fail, after all it is us - gamers that pay the price.

Not gonna happen unless they force you to play on a regional server.  For example, I won't play CS on any server outside of Dallas because of lag.  Can you imagine what the "real time combat" lag would be playing on a server in NYC when you live in Texas against people in Norway for example?

Of course there are issues with the classes and other things, but everything I have read around the internet says FC is going to hit a brick wall and have to change their combat system.

Personally I hope the game works out and is a success, competition is good for all gamers.  That eing said, every class can train stealth..  I'll cheer the AoC folks on from the stealth free WAR servers.

I wouldn't count stealth out of WAR atm.

    Just mark those words.

There will NOT be stealth in WAR. As far as the OP goes he was a little harsh about it but i agree it will lose some potential customers going head to head with WAR. My wife and I as well as some friends were going to mess around with AOC till WAR came out but now we ll just wait, SO in reality if theres any that feels like us he is right sorta :)

I for one was hoping to jump into AoC and try out WAR when it came out.  The AoC delay will make me more prone to invest my time into WAR instead of AoC.  I think a lot of people are in the same boat as me.

  • CelestianCelestian Member UncommonPosts: 1,136

I can say with 100% certainty that if AoC doesn't come out before WAR I won't be playing it.

Granted I'd never been one of those players playing for an extended period so it probably won't matter.

Difference here is WAR has never been given a solid release date, only estimated dates.  Funcom screwed the pooch with all these "Gold" dates, which traditionally are solid going to release dates.  EA/Mythic has not been so bold as to state a specific date and say yes it will release on this specific day like Funcom has multiple times now.

As of now WAR has no stated street date, only an estimate.

But no matter what, I will have fun.

You have to realize there are a lot of simple minded, tunnel vision asshats that browse forums to hold the banner of their games greatness. It's a fundamental flaw of humans to think everyone else should be and think like them "reason we have racism and other unwanted behaviours in the world".

Hold on don't paint with such a wide brush.  Its not a flaw for me,  people genuninely should think like me because I'm right and they are wrong.  Its just that simple.  I mean someone has got to be wrong, it just happen to be the rest of you.  Sorry.

Mmmmm  I dunno DDO has as a realtime combat system and seems ok.

AoC will not be any more real time than DDO.  But then again DDO is heavily instanced so maybe that is the big thing there.  Maybe turbine is smarter than people give them credit for.

Be interesting to see what happens.

Hey mate you seem to bit... how I can say... a guy that post in the war forum info about push back from another game just to say something like: "I mean really, why  bother wasting your money on AOC when WAR will come out just a few weeks later?" Why you dont grow up a bit and post things were they must go and not try to bash another game just because you like one.

    This is really sad attitude.

I wouldn't play WAR if it came out before AoC. I just don't like what I see of it. *shrug* But hey, that's just my opinion. *smirk*

Interesting read. Honestly, unless you can not afford to why choose not to pick sides and just try them? I thought wow would flunk, mentally I had a hard time seeing an rts turn into an mmo, but it was overall a well done game that has changed the market.

You may think you like one or the other, but when it actually comes down to it you may find both are actually really good and that you have fun in both. Picking favorites without really knowing the final build or anything truly intricate seems a little silly, that is just me though.

Oh, and for whatever reason people seem to hit on stealth in AoC a lot. While most of us are thinking of rouges in WoW, it is not exactly the same. Its based off a lot of real life stuff such as movement, sound, lightening, cover, distance, terrain, and feats. Where as in wow you lolclick and stop existing in world of everyone else.
