Just watch this weeks Zero Punctuation about The Witcher and and you'll understand why most PC gaming catasses are hated and treated like the elitist pricks that they are.

I love his word choice, it keeps cracking me up. :3

All in all, I agree to a point that hard != fun, but easy != fun either. It's a matter of elegance to combine challenge to achieve goals with clear, intuitive interfaces in the attempt to achieve them. Imagine if you had a bicycle, where you had to run more than two mechanisms at once, making it hard to not only power, but to maneuver. That's what you get in games like The Witcher and in MMOs as well. Obfuscation does not equal challenge, it equals frustration.

Okay, I agree with some of the logic issues.  But man, this game was waaay simpler than the ones I like.  I thought it was dumbed down.

    God I hate console players.

The Witcher isn't that hard. It's a bit complex, but it's no way near as difficult to figure out compared to games such as Battlecruiser 3000AD, Europa Universalis or Operation Flashpoint.

I don't his idea of quests either? I've played the game for about 15 hours, and I've only encountered 1(optional) quest where I had to collect skulls(Barghest skulls to be precise)

Console games are usually "dumbed down". At least if you ask Ubisoft. The console version of GRAW is an arcade like super action experience, where the PC game is a realistic futuristic tactical shooter. Frankly I might be an elistist asshole, but I prefer the latter.

Taking Zero puncutuation seriously is a mistake.   Its witty but not always fair.

For example the alchemy is very simple and you can make anything whether you have found the recipes or not.  There is a guide on gamefaqs that lists all the recipes.  You just get alcohol and 2-4 for ingredient types.  There are only 4 types of ingredients.  The only hard part is getting enough money/alcohol and managing your resources.

ABSOLUTELY true.  I watch because it's entertaining and funny, not because I'm looking for credible journalism about a game I'm interested in.

Zero Punctuation is one guys opinion about the games he plays, you dont have to agreee with them. The only problem with review sites are, people take them to religiously.

A lot of what he said is true about the game, but I'm actually having fun with it regardless.  Ever since I've been into MORGs, I have a hard time getting into single player games... they just don't feel dynamic enough.  But with the Witcher I'm actually having fun.  It might be the first game in years outside of MORGs I've had a decent time with.  Then again, like he said... it's a lot like a MMORPGER.  :)

    It was funny, I agree.

I iked The Witcher, but when I was playing it, it definitely did feel like a single player MMORPG, as well -- although I like MMORPGs so that wasn't an issue for me.  I didn't find the interface and controls that complex to be honest.

except TF2, which he then had to make a big deal about how he couldn't find anything wrong with it

    gotta love zero punctuation though

that was f'ing hilarious, and just made my day.  I always knew that I was a teir above the peabrained masses, but finding out that in fact I am a "Glorious Master Race" just made me feel so l33t inside.

Anyone who finds the Witcher confusing and "too hard" needs to stick with Pac Man.

Don't you think that would just extend his disslike of it and turn it into pure hate so by the time he got to the end video it would better be of holodeck quality to even matter.

Actually, I wasn't thrilled with some of the same complaints he had about the game for the first few hours...but was totally hooked by mid game.  So who knows! ;)

The start was simply awesome. Not that I can quote anything because he babbles on at the speed of light times two. Yahtzee is simply awesome. Couldn't agree more with his definition of a MMORPG. Hopefully some time in the near future we will see some new MMORPGs that don't follow the same linear path he described.

The controls are a mixed bag.  Definitely a bit klunky but in some regards very good when you really let the throttle out.

I really disliked how it would automatically put me out of combat.  Ok fine, I can see having a delay to unsheath your sword that makes some sense, but that is why you let me keep it out durn it.

It took me a little while to realize the different combat speeds have different movement rates, which can be considerably faster than than out of combat running.

But yeah there are definitely problems with smoothness in some portions of the gameplay.  considering that its the old neverwinter night engine with tweaks its pretty good for an action game.  I am pretty sure they simply couldn't hammer out the awkward delays.

Too bad without those it would be an incredible action game and a good RPG.  The different playstyles are really nice from a run and gun massive regen fire sign user to a full on swordsman or a sort of spellbalde using the extra damage from effects.  A lot of interesting feat based ways to play it that are based on gameplay rather than flat out math.

But no doubt sometimes its quite frustrating.  Although I have only played on the highest diffculty.
