    Nothing, I asked.

    Why?

Because I was interested in your intent. As there was already screenshots submitted to dispute Bafucin's statement, at that time he submitted them. At that time is an important observervation here. And as Bafucin's by some maybe obvious reason has not posted any screenshots these last day, there are no reason to dispute screenshots or claims by him that is not made.

And as I can refer to other posts it seems that you are playing the game, the intent with your original post was somewhat fuzzy. Did you post it as a joke/sarcasm or something or was you actually claiming that the population was dropping.

I'm still not clear on that though.

But no I didn't call you anything really, I may have hinted with the question. But you answered it, I think.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Interesting, FLS themselves have stated that the average online number should be 20-25% of total subs.

At any time or primetime? And how should one calculate that, take one SS on US prime and then one in EU prime.

I mean If I take one SS mid day here it would show alot less. But anyway it still seems that more servers are getting populated.

Thanks Agent Smith for the posting of the screenshot.

    And that is why...

Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.

Well I come to the final solution that people that are f$%ked. Who in their right mind would just keep posting screenshots of the servers and baseing their gameplay on it.

We have people doing mathematical equations on the server status, we got people posting a screenshot every minute to prove their point, we got people that are dumb as hell that have bought the game and dont like it (I mean, how much more stupid can you get than this, try the game out first before you buy). We also got crazed mmorpg members bashing this game under different alias on the forum.

Who the *$&# cares if the game had 100 people playing the game, it should just depend on you, the person that bought the game for your personal enjoyment. So what if the game doesnt have 500k subs. What should that matter to you? Are you saying your just like everyone else out there? And if Bobby or Jill doesnt like it, well hell, I am not going to like it either.

Lets face it, its a Pirate game, not a fantasy game, fantasy games still have more people that run to it for subscriptions (hence, why we have so fu&$en many sword swinging basterds and one hit Wizards with their magic stick).

Even your best SciFi mmorpg doesnt have the best of numbers for subscriptions. This game is pretty much in a small catergory already, since its dealing with a Pirate theme. So whoever is enjoying this game, awesome, glad you found a new unique game to enjoy. It definetly has much more of a mature base than most mmorpgs out there now, its probably why you got kiddies knocking this game, because they want to be Jack Sparrow and they cant be since they dont understand the concept of this game.

To those who have bought the game and bad talking it, shame on you. You should of known better before you bought the game (that there was a learning curve), there were so many BETAs on this game prior to launch. And if you couldnt decide then if you wanted to play the game or not, well your nothing but a dumb ass.

To let server status be your final judge on this game is just total asinine!

    Currently Playing: AO and FE.

Wow.  Making more than a few assumptions there.  Some of us are just curious to see how the server population grows over time.  This being a new MMO and all.  We are not blessed with your omniscience you see?

Oh... I would suggest seeking professional help about that little anger problem too...

Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.

  • BinkoBinko Member Posts: 267

We are just talking. Thats what the forums are made for or did I miss something?

Yes it's not a Fantasy game and I think we all know that.

But don't forget that the movies with Jack Sparrow are loved by many people around the world. And I think you can find a little Jack Sparrow in this game too. People like pirates. I think the population would be bigger by now, but it's not.

If we can't talk about games, then why have forums for them?

    Played:
From Earth & Beyond, Anarchy Online, Matrix Online, Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa (Beta), EvE Online, City of Villians, Atlantica Online, Guild Wars, Lineage 2, Pirates of the Burning Sea, PlanetSide, RF Online, Second Life, Fallen Earth.

Well, since many of the fans of the game have said repeatedly that the "real" game is in the RvR, society, grouping, and player created economy...I think a discussion of the number of players actually in the game is fairly relevant.

It's also relevant to the long term health of the game, the reinvestment into further development, and the prospect of a server merge.

So yea, I think it's a worthwhile discussion myself.

You know, I am still getting feedback from the Support Tickets / Beta bug reports I filed in the Beta - so the Beta ws not that long ago AND FLS are still addressing some of the issues raised (That's a good thing BTW)

This issue I got feedback on this morning was the way I was able to break the "Build a Woodcutters' Camp" mission in the economy tutorials.

Apparently it is still not fixed - but they are working on it.

You have to remember that verbal descriptions like "Moderate" and "Heavy" are only relative measures of server capacity. This is a more realistic measure:

    http://www.burningsea.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1604

Even if those numbers are off by 50% that's still tiny. Heck, even if they're off by 100% that's still tiny.

I'm not making a statement either way about whether the game is "good" or whether you should enjoy it. Enjoy away; I'm not here to rain on anyone's parade. But it is important that people aren't misled by vague text descriptions of the population.

      Saturday February 2nd.....3:00ish eastern.

The less populated servers seem to be filling up more......total numbers?  Couldn't tell ya.

Honestly, so far I think they may have made the same mistake DDO did at launch, and started with too many servers.  We'll see though, and the good news is, the DDO merges were fantastic and made a much healthier game.

They nearly made a big mistake as thier original plan was to launch with 18 servers!

Luckily Rusty spotted this and changed it to 11 at the last minute.

The real test for populations will be when renewals are due on the 24th.

jesus schrist dont u get it people a mmorpg is supposed to have as much people ass possible if there are only 300 people i mean comon i know a private server for wow that has at least 1500 players on all the time so cmon

  • DarkjinxterDarkjinxter Member Posts: 174

I'm enjoying the game despite the population being low, high, or whatever it is.

At level 17 pirate with a level 17 brig atm, had to buy the 17 brig yesterday after being jumped by a level 27 Spanish frigate whilst crossing PvP waters.

What an eye-opener!! The rascal reduced my masts to matchsticks in one broadside leaving me dead in the water, before sending me to ol' Davey Jones' locker.

The Spanish are now on my hitlist...I shall chase them round the cape and round Perditian's Flame, from Hell's heart I shall stab at them.

I'll be needing a bigger boat though.

It doesn't matter to me how low the population is, or becomes, just as long as there's one Spanish ship still sailing I'll be playing PotBS.

  • BinkoBinko Member Posts: 267

For you that played SWG in the old days or AO before WoW came and took all players away, you know it's nice with high population. The world in the game you play in, is alive. The game is more fun with more people in it.

Go have a look at AO & SWG today. Do you get a happy feeling when you play the games? No, you feel alone and get bored. Most players are at one place, for example in SWG people are stuck at that boring PvP place called Restuss. The player towns in SWG empty. The game is empty. The population is low.

So do I think population is something a MMO needs? Yes.

And if Heavy is 344, then this game need some more pop. 344 is like one or two guilds in a MMO.

    Played:
From Earth & Beyond, Anarchy Online, Matrix Online, Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa (Beta), EvE Online, City of Villians, Atlantica Online, Guild Wars, Lineage 2, Pirates of the Burning Sea, PlanetSide, RF Online, Second Life, Fallen Earth.

It really depends on how the MMO works and is managed.

I don't really get why all the players in PotBS cannot play in one world (on one server)?

Why wasn't it designed this way?

The bottleneck is the travelmap - that is where you are most likely to have most players at one time.

But what information is required to run that?  Location, heading, ship type, colour scheme and player name (a few bytes there).  It seems to me everything else can be handled clientside?

There is no weather or day/night to complicate things?

Instances actually make this easier because players in mission instances, battle instances, and in towns are out of the travel map?

The worst loads should actually be in towns where there are a lot of players roaming the streets (because Avatars have a lot of variation).

It is just spooky going to a town and never meeting another player there - ever.  In fact, it's even worse when you have been there alone for a while and you think you see someone else but when you look again...they are gone...
