I feel sorry for the company that sets launch day for their new mmorpg the day after judgement day without knowing it. What a anticlimax. The fans is like "Yaaaay!!..." <KAABOOM!> "Noooo!!!..."

Just got invited myself. YESS!!! finally a reason to quit WoW, lol.
I'm still wondering at the madness of how they pick people. Some people with event passes, and other things still haven't gotten an invite, yet people who signed up months after them, without the contest things, news letter veterans, etc. got in before them.
My guess is that they let in a certain number of people from every group so that everyone has a chance, no matter how small.
As a simple exmaple, say there are 5,000 people flagged with event promotion codes, and 495,000 with nothing. They are likely not going to make it so all 5,000 of the former group get in before any of the other 495,000 do. What they will do is perhaps let in more of the former group each time, or assign them a higher probability of being picked when they run their picker algorithm.
Basically, promo codes and sign-up time and such only increase your probability, they do not necessarily move you up in a line, as I doubt there is a true line where everyone is numbered off.
I signed up the very first day it opened (May 31, 2007), but only am a "Veteran WAR Newsletter Subscriber" so I do not expect to get in any time soon. Ah well, it'll make things seem fresh and exciting come release if I never get in at all.

I got some random message about asking all current beta testers to update their dxdiag info as part of testing some system... but I'm not a current beta tester.

I just got the same email. Yet near the end it mentions helping test, so either the email went out wrong or they havent updated new tester status yet. I'm hoping for the latter.

Altho I must admit being given a link to the beta forums and told that if I need to create a forum account go to blah blah blah...
and not being a tester lol
*edited to add* and for the curious NO you can't see the beta forums unless you have an account and you can't make an account unless you are IN beta *end edit*
It reminds me of emails I got from Atari and Microsoft once.. welcome to some beta... then two days later "oh sorry emails went out by mistake.. there is no beta for YOU" lol.

I'm not sure if I got in or not. I got a weird email that seemed addressed to current testers, but was to me. Still says "Applied" on my betacenter thing though ><
