Yep.  That's my thought as well.  Which is what will ultimately turn me off to AoC. Awesome graphics are great, but  I'm all about the massive rvr in open world pvp.

Well, for the little bit of PvPing that I will do, being in a fight with 100 other players will be good enough for me. 50 vs 50 is plenty. I'd prefer Age of Conan Online, not Braveheart Online.  The Border Kingdoms PvP will be guild versus guild. 50 vs 50 feels about right for that in the context of the background, IMO. Now, with WAR, heh, as I've said, I've worked  for GW, and VERY familiar with all of the backgrounds for not only the armies, but the table-top world, and well, my expectation for PvP there would be several hundred players on each side. Orc Waaaghs usually number in the thousands. If Mythic can pull that off, I tip my hat to them. I'm guessing their servers can hold at least 3000 players, so if they can get a 1500 vs a 1500 player rvr battle with no lag, again, I'd tip my hat to them.

My guess is you and a good many people in this thread haven't played DAoC in quite some time.

Considering how low the population is now compared to a year.. two years ago and how badly the engine performs when there is a "large" battle..

This doesn't have anything to do with WAR and not many people here have seen AOC personally either.

It has to do with statements people make on forums...

We'll see how both games do when they are released.

Personally I'm hoping that Mythic has solved a great many of the performance issues that still show up in DAoC.. when WAR is released.

Because I agree that the server side lag has a major effect on one of the most touted features of the game.  This is an area that DAoC still has major issues with... regardless of what client the user runs or how far down they turn the options.  (you can't really solve server side issues on the client end unfortunately).

Personally I hope both of these games do very well.. as a game player.. it would seem stupid to want anything else.  I for one am sick of seeing subpar games endlessly stream out.. and I would love to pay for a few "good games" at the same time.

It's probably the only reason I'm not playing DAoC right now. I cannot stand seeing characters out of sync, you see someone jump and they warp in the air and back down to the floor. Also, like you said, in large battles you'll notice a huge slow-down and skipping in the animations - awful game killer. :(

Back when AO came out the graphics were stunning. However the game was a load of crap. It was the worst launch I'd ever been part of and it was almost unplayable. I don't mean just random "quest" bugs I mean getting booted repeatedly all the time, lag so bad you just sat there for 10 minutes and yet more crashing. I'm guessing their AoC game will launch a little more smoothly though!

I give AO props for being the folks that innovate though, they are the ones that introduced instancing.

Um, who says Funcom has figured out a way for those kind of graphics to work within a  massive rvr lag-free ?

I realy doubt they will pull that outside a 20v20 instance.

It s weird i really don t think AOC s graphics are that great but i play MMOs not for graphics and when i do play them i realize they re a fantasy world. If i want realistic i ll go outside so who really cares how realistic they are. IMO i prefer less realistic graphics in any PC game wether it s a MMO or not. Besides i would rather play a good game with less demand on my system when you get alot of people in one area. WAR is doing it right , AOC isn t IMO.

When given the choice of playing with realistic graphics or cartoon graphics, I'll take realistic every time. To me there's no comparison.  As long as good graphics can scale up or down with different systems, it's all good to me.

Having said this, I love the graphics of AoC, but I also like WARs graphics -- just not as much.

Fair enough and i respect your opinion :) To me and quite alot i m sure i play these games to get away from the realistic parts of our life:) I just prefer Wars less realistic graphics. I can t explain it any other way then that. I have a good comp and the high end realistic graphics shouldn t be an issue for me but for a buisiness standpoint to have access to more people with newer and older comps is smarter and i don t see AOC doing this even if they state they are. I would much prefer to play with my friends etc who can t upgrade they re comp every year like some if us cant then not to have cool shadows etc. Just how i feel :)

To be honest I have nothing agianst funcom or AoC but I think their graphics are on par with EQ1 and games released 5 years ago.  They are going for the realistic style and take a look a lineage 2 and then come back and tell me how great AoC grapchis are.  Lineage 2 has been out for about 5 years and they blow away AoC graphics.  For a next gen game I was expecting a lot more in the GX deparment.  Now compair WAR which is going with more of a charatoon graphics the styles are different and I like the WAR graphics a LOT better.

I will agree with you. Graphics in AoC are better.

Graphics may be a part of mmos, but gameplay is the meat and potatoes. If the gameplay sucks and the graphics are stunning, maybe I'll take a screenshot in game, put it as my background on my computer, and then uninstall it...that is about all it is good for.  Give me mediocore graphics, and kick ass gameplay... yes please!
