Goodbye WoW

DrolkinDrolkin Member UncommonPosts: 246

3 years, 4 70s, stale gameplay.

Awsome game for new players or people who don't have a lot of time.

But I've played it to death, and I got sick of the PvP(4 BG maps in 4 years, sigh). Arena is a joke, class balance is a joke.

Arenas ruined the game, balancing everything based off of 5v5 arena was the stupidest mistake ever.  Don't get me wrong I was rank 27 2v2 and 22 5v5(Not on BG9, but I could give a **** less :P), but in the end, it just takes Blizz too long to do what they need to do.

Blizzard's updating and reponse to imbalance is way too slow for a game with 9 mill subscribers.

Playing FFXI/DDO/Tabula Rasa till Warhammer comes out, but even then I think I'll be done with MMORPG for life.

People can argue all they want, but all MMORPGs are repetive and the same.  Last time I really enjoyed a MMORPG was UO before tram/fel, but that could be because MMORPGs were new to me at the time.

I've been playing a lot of TF2, Shattered Galaxy and got back to loving non MMORPGs.

Tabula is decent because its faster pace.

DDO is constant questing/grouping asap, none of that kill 1000 boars or walk for an hour around the maps.  Plus it's based off D&D just turned into a MMO, and I love D&D(long ago).

FFXI is much more social and I like the fact you have to group to play, if I wanna solo I'll play something like UT4 DM etc.

Anyways, for anyone who hasn't tried WoW and has a life, get the game, between rested EXP and their recent nerf of xp needed between 20-60, you won't need to give up your day job to play.  And at 70 you can just PvP for Epic EQ, but after you've played the same 4 battle maps 10, 000 times you will probably get bored.

WoTlk is a joke and is only a measure to combat AoC and Warhammer.

If Warhammer PvP doesn't provide what I'm expecting I'll probably hang up MMOs.

One more thing about WoW, expect a year from getting 70 to ever reach EG raids like BT/Sunwell, and don't think having talent trees and diffrent spec combos to be as amazing as it sounds, every class is pigeon holed into 1-2 specs for PvP and same with PvE if you want to make a mark in the game.

Vodkah - 70 Warlock Gorganash R.I.P.

Knasty - 70 Paladin Gorganash R.I.P.

Hehlol  - 70 Priest Bonechewer R.I.P.

Falloutgirl - 70 Mage Bonechew R.I.P.

Couldnt agree with you more Drolkin. WoW is an excelent MMO (still the best one thats out/ever made) but if you play for more then 10Hrs a week for 3 years any game is gonna get old regardless of how many "Alt" characters you have.

I also agree on your lack of content statement. Blizzard is the microsoft of the gaming world (yes even more so than EA IMO) yet they cant keep up with the average wow player. They did an excelent job making a great game but im also gonna be waiting for their next expansion before i pick it up and play again.

My suggestion to "Hardcore MMO Gamers" out there is to play 2 MMOs and alternate them the best you can and keep getting into new ones while there in BETA...It is way to EZ to burn out on MMOs...

I'm on the same boat as you OP, but I haven't quit yet. I've played it ever since beta, but after TBC the game hasn't been that fun. I know I'm on the verge of quitting, and WOTLK will either be the final nail on the coffin or it will keep me playing for a bit longer (but I doubt it, because it'll still be the same game. Go through 10 levels and then it's back to leeching honor in AV for lvl 80 PvP items and then you go on forming FOTM arena teams).

Atm I have nearly all my vengeful gear and I have nothing to do. I've tried to join a raid guild, but none are recruiting. I just stand in OG fiddling my thumbs and answer peoples' questions and giving tips on how to succeed in the arena.

I'm playing the arena with friends, but they aren't playing it for fun, they are doing it for gear. Once I get the rest of my vengeful gear I won't be able to even look forward to playing a few arena games a day. I won't have any reason to login.

As the OP said, get WoW if you have a life. If you have a ton of free time like me, you'll find yourself VERY bored fast.

Took 3 years to realise you hated the game, if i stick a fork in your eye how long do you think it will be before you decide you dont like that?

Tbh 3 years is more than you'll get from any game out there so it's not like it's been a bad mmorpg to play lol.

  • altfreak2altfreak2 Member Posts: 20

hmm... and i've gotten bored of it at level 26. time for a new mmo for me!

but seriously, it's an ok game if you don't play it frequently. I really hate aspects of it where you have to continuously grind to achieve something, that is just not fun (and isnt playing a game about having fun?). that's why i'm looking forward to Infinity: Quest for Earth and also getting back into Eve online...

Yep I also played since release and quit in november last year,I didnt do much pvp but was a member of an end game guild,I think what did it for me was the announced release of wotlk so soon after tbc,After leveling from 60-70 doing all the rep grinding and getting the end game gear just to hear I would have to do it all again gave me a bit of a sinking feeling.

After 3 years though it was a good run and had alot of good times, who knows I may go back to see how wotlk is,though I doubt it but never say never I guess.

To the OP you said you enjoy faster combat and are enjoying TR,I am waiting on TCoS it that could also be something for you with the skill combat sytem, could be worth a look.

I feel your pain.  Been playing for 4 years.  Over 3100 hours have been saved by my xfire.

Looking at some other games now.  FFXI, Phantasy star universe, mabye warhammer. I dunno.

Your playing style was so similar to mine its kind of scary.  Except I did not ever use any alts.  Ive played 1 char for 4 years and just pvped :P.

Perhaps mmorpg needs something else than leveling and item raid. THe one I played most was GW, cause I got no level, I got no problem with it, and what I enjoyed seems to be the pvp (gvg) or the teamwork... but not leveling up and get items, kill the same mob one time and another, and another (and if you play l2 lot of "another times"), so... lets wait for war and aoc, they want to focus in something else than levels, lets see if this brings interesting content and no the same one for different levels taking in account that players need 3 months to reach some different things...

Sounds like someone wants a tissue....... Ill be your reality check here K? No one cares if your leaving a game nor do they care about how many 70's you have or how great you thought you were. Maybe if you put your "3 years, 4 70s", and stale PERSONALITY into a job or a woman you might have something else to talk about.

We all reach that point eventually OP, where you decide you've accomplished all you want or need to and move on. For me, it came when I realized what TBC (and future releases) would mean.  More of the same in my book (weak PVP, PVE end game raiding etc) so I walked away.

I think you just need a break for a while from MMO's actually.  When you come back you'll appreciate them more.

I know, come back when DF releases, since that's the closest to your beloved UO pre-trammel.  (and it should give you a good two or three years of rest)

    Nice post Drolkin.

I have to agree that class balancing is the single most irritating aspect of all the MMO's currently in existence.  I have offered several threads on this argument in other forum areas.

If I have said this once, I have said 100's of times before.  The new MMO's really, really do need to make of any changes in skills for "balancing" characters during beta.  That's why we have betas.  DO NOT mess with characters' skill after final release unless they are being upgraded or enhanced with new skills.

I read anothe post, sorry I forgot the poster's name in this thread about trying to play at least two different MMO's and attempting to balance the time spent on these games.  I currently do this with WoW and EQ 2.

As for the staleness and boredom, I have to agree.  Most MMO's do become stale and repetitive.  The thing that gets me through is my guilds in both EQ 2 and WoW.  In real life I'm extremely social.  I see these games and chat rooms with a game attaced, therefore when bored it's a blessing to have folks to chat with in-game.

Funny, as far as expansions goes I thought it was nicely done ^^

4 years? The game has hardly been up that long (has it?)

Anyway, i personally thought BC was more than worth the money. I can't say the same for all the expansions I ever bought.

it was 2 years then TBC and lots of content added between and after TBC. But look at the numbers WoW has not needed to rush out buggy and poorly made expansions as fast as EQ2 and other becuase WoW keeps its players... more does not mean better.

EQ wasnt the only game in town during those 5 years

UO, AC1, AC2, DAOC, AO, EVE, COX, FFO,Shadowbane, Horizons

    beyond EQ,

at least 10 other commercial mmos people were playing before WOW

whether the mmos were flops or not, people were trying/playing the other mmos

    - not just having their head stuck in EQ

personally, NEW choices have *shrank* post WOW

how many new mmos have we seen launch post WOW?    3?  4?

Oh yeah there were more games than just EQ. But there was definately a lack of choice out there. Not to mention alot of people were new to those mmo's as well. That being said outside of 3 of those mentioned, most people probably would never heard of those games till after the fact.

3 years is definately a good run for any game I would say. I would like to see more out of WOW personally, but it is what it is, and Ive finally moved on. But I doubt any game made now with all the other choices out there will ever hold my attention for more than 3 years either.

Fair enough, Ill stay on topic. But considering this is general discussion I should be able to voice my  "who gives a damn" opinion right? Besides people, games may be a part of your lives but they should not BE your lives. Point being if you have 4 lvl 70's in wow perhaps you need something else to do. Be it another game or hobby or job or even a lady friend, you need something. Anything you can do for 3 years straight will get boring. With that in mind this falls into the "DUH' category and does not need to be stated.  So while my comments may seem harsh (I do apologize) the point is clear.
