One issue I had with WoW was travel. If I was on one continent and needed to get to another it could take 15 minutes or more due to traveling to a Zep, then traveling to my next destination. On the other end of the spectrum is Guild Wars to where I could travel anywhere instantly. Where does WAR fall?
In short, I don't have a lot of time to play games and thus don't want to spend most of my time traveling.
TIA

I agree.......
I would like to see games make player mounts like horses cheap and easy to get early on in the game. It really doesnt make sense to have to wait until you are high level before you are able to own a mount and travel at a decent speed.

toke u alot of time to travel on foot, but u got mount farly easy and quick in both games. i would like the feeling when ur out and hunt with ur friends or alone.. u really feel u are far away and exploere stuff, on a big adventure :-)
but could travel back on a mount. toke u some times, but not more than 5 min tops. not that i think it will be like that in war.. but i hope so

That was pretty cool, unfortunately those mounts didnt move very fast and once speeder bikes were out nobody really used them except for the novelty of it which was a shame.

We want deep, meaningful MMOGS that last for years, and then we want to be able to travel anywhere in less than 5 minutes. That doesn't make sense. If you want to feel inmersed in a huge world, travel has to take time.
For those of us who may be able one to get on and play for 30 minutes, we can't afford to take 15 minutes to get somewhere. I understand some shape of realism is needed, but there comes a point to where it's a nuisance.
then a mmo might not be for u.. i mean, mmo is a world... u use alot of time in it.. u build up a char, u are the char. u need to feel u are in a big world. i understand some peeps dont have alot of time, but then i would say, id u dont have time for it, for a mmo... then maybe, its not the best place to play?

A MMO is very much for me. I've spent many hours in games like CoX, Guild Wars and Tabula Rasa where travel isn't a major time sink. It can be done without being a detriment to the game.
oki, and yes i do see ur pont still, i just dont see a mmo like that, but thats just me :-)

Yeah, that's cool.
I was just reading the Age of Conan forums and it has fast/insta travel. The same discussions are going on over there.
I did read that WAR will have a recall item to teleport to the last visited city so that will be nice.
traveling is just a part of mmo. it can be annoying, yes, but it also makes sense. i remember in the good old days in wow where we were going for Onyxia. It took some time to get there, but I was getting prepared, motivated and getting my hopes up the first few times.
also when it comes to normal quests etc. i dont mind traveling. thats 1 way to experince the world im "living" in, riding past lowlvls who is doing some quests, enjoying the world design, and getting some impressions. For me, traveling just makes the world seems living, and therefor it would sux to be instant teleported anywhere you want.
Also facing hostile players on the way who is "pvp tagged" (if not playing pvp servers)and just bash em/ get bashed.
warhammer will have teleport, i wish they wouldt, but i can live with it

I think MMORPG's should not be all about instant action or fast travel.
I believe that people are becoming too consumed with the destination, be it where they are travelling to, or even end game content. Why not just focus on enjoying the experience?
Sure mounts should be available to everyone at all levels to take a little bit of tedium out of the game when travelling to more visited locations, but at the same time we do need something to give us a sense that we are indeed in another world.
Frodo: I'm not looking forward to the journey to Mordor.
Gandalf: Nah, I'll port us there....
Is there anything wrong with having some sort of port/fast travel available for those who don't have the time or just plain want it while still having slower, more immersive forms implemented as well? Those who want to take their time and explore can and those who are more in a rush for whatever reason can enjoy the game as they like, too.
if theres a teleport ingame, everyone will use it, no matter if u want to travel for long time or not

Even in WoW there was no reason to have to take the Zep more then maybe 1 time a night cause once you have traveled the next 10 levels would be on that side of the world.
Horse's are also a Status item, It shows how hard you have worked and saved money.
Assassin's like to do it in the dark and from behind.
Thats just plain B.S.
Making everyone walk for 20 minutes to get everywhere is just a cop out by lazy developers. If you really want more immersive and meaningful MMOs then add more content not travel time.

If theres gonna be instant teleport anywhere you want, im afraid the game gonna kill some of the social aspects. You are not gonna ride somewhere, and then meet someone who is doing a quests that you also needs to do, but had forgotten all about it. So you are not gonna meet strangers on the road and start talking and doing some quests together, and WAR will end up being a ego-race, about who will get to lvl40 first.

If there's teleporting in the game then people make the CHOICE to use it or not. If someone is rallying for exploring the world via longer travel yet choosing to use the teleporting system, that's their own problem not the developers for putting a different option in the game. It all comes down to which route the individual player CHOOSES to take.
Now I can smell the 'what if people are waiting on them and they're being pushed to use teleport' argument coming so I'll simply say these people can either find others who'd rather travel slowly and not be in such a rush, solo, or accept that their way is not everyone else's way and teleport some of the time while still having the option to explore and travel slowly when they won't keep others waiting.

This just doesn't work, you do what you are forced to do following the game mechanics and the general community. Otherwise it's totally lame.

i didnet like the teleport in vanguard. ok vanguard to a hour to get to another continent, but anyway.. i dident like the teleport, but i used it anyway, cous everyone els does it... the game is made for teleports. would be lame to be the only 1 traveling for hours

more then likely Mythic will do what they did with the Catacombs expansion of DAoC you could teleport to areas of interest, but first you had to get there on your own first to activate the ability to teleport there.
Then will prolly have 1 way teleporters to some places, and then at the capital city there may be a way to teleport to other places. Just going off of what they did in DAoC.(well later added to DAoC) And it wasn't to anywhere. Outside of ToA, you could onyl teleport a few places, the rest of the way you had to rent a horse(uncontrollable transport) or go on foot (or mount if you had one)
An MMORPG often cost money to play, they are big, more serously game gender, but its not just for kids with 10-15 hours per day doing nothing... People who have a life, family and a work, what about uss? Well the fast traveling going to be in WAR, you can choose places and get there instantly...(?) I think i read it somewhere.. And the mounts is fast to get.. Not so hard to get to max 40 lv and i dont think the mount will come in the latest of levels. When you want to get to the other side, why not teleport with scrolls, teleport zones.. The game is still there. You can explore when ya got da time! ^^
