Well I just went through the last 2 pages of your posts and all you had to say was negative things about alot of different games,So forgive me if I take this latest 1 with a pinch of salt.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"
Since nobody in the U.S. wants to publish it, it obviously isn't very good
i give a very small chance at being successful
Did you ever consider that maybe they have not received an offer they like yet?
Or the typicall US arrogancy thinking that everything from outside the US is far less quallity then a US product
<ducks behind a wall>
Just kidding.
The main reason they did not find a US publisher yet was because Spellborn Inc does not allow publishers to actively influence / put pressure on the game development....
This game is not released unfinished, not released untill everything done, with a good reason...
many MMO's in the past have been pushed to release to early... even WoW was pushed , and had a lot of problems in the first month after release... (espescially serverside)
But to find a publisher thats not allowed any influence in the deal... thats a too risky investments..and publishers are not in the game for the games but for the money.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
Yep agree again with LB,The devs want to keep spellborn there game and is not a point "no-one wants to publish the game"it is a point that the devs havent found a publisher they want for the game and that is a huge difference.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"
It looks cool, but it's a sort of FPS, so people jump 24/7 and are going to circle strafe... Quite annoying? FPS sounds cool, but I don't know how they can make it work good, without getting jump/circle strafe/rush combat.
Actually, you supposedly you get a penalty in your attacks when you jump so I doubt to many people will bunny jump unless they like doing less damage...and I'm pretty sure that counts for moving too..so..move and do less damage while taking less damage..or stand still and do max damage while taking max damage?
Of course, a rogue type class will want to move around more than say a warrior..
So it might take a bit of balancing..as all mmo's
I'm pretty sure thats how its going to be, might be wrong so feel free to correct me..
I hope it doesn't turn out into a jump/strafe fest..
This game is so good..... people will not look back....more i can not say....
But if people never get to taste this Jewel.....they will never know what they missed, so yes , they need to release as promised in Q1 2008, everyone is wayting for another orriginall MMO.

ha!
will not be releasing in Q1 - guaranteed
Oh my god, if they seriously did release Q1, I'd be torn between running away in panic because they clearly cut way too many corners, or buying it instantly.
Re: My earlier comment. Aion is a smash hit basically if they release it. There's almost nothing they can do to screw it up. I mean we're talking the successor to the only MMORPGs with P2P model that can stand next to WoW and say "We have a number of players that can be compared to yours without inducing giggle fits." Jumpgate is always going to have a mediocre audience, even if it is the best game ever, simply because of what it is.
This COULD have a huge audience, but it will really have to work for it. Its going to have to show people that it isn't just AS GOOD as AoC, Aion, and Warhammer. It has to be BETTER for it to do as well as them. That's a tall order, but if they do it, its gold. I mean look at the hyped games of 2007. People couldn't wait for Vanguard. Tabula Rasa has been anticipated for years. LOTRO was handwaved, it had mediocre coverage and was developed by essentially a nobody, and it easily smacked down two games from two of the biggest name developers in MMO history.

I think there are lot of people that are missing the bigger picture,Not every game has to be "the best"and the devs at TCoS are not as vain as alot of devs out there,They are making a great game(in my eye`s)and they are saying "this is the game we wanted to make enjoy it for what it is and not for what it isnt"
They are leaving out alot of the norm i.e large raids, gear based gameplay and crafting timesinks,If you like the forementioned things then truth be told this game wont be for you,A game doesnt need 1million subs to be successful.
There are more than enough gamers looking for a game of this type to be a success,It will have its haters.just like every other game but it will also have the players that enjoy it for what it is./endrant.

No, not every game has to be the best. What you miss is that THIS game does. If it had released in 2007, all it would have had to do is provide a compelling, reasonably bug free experience that did not leave a horrible taste in peoples mouths to be a success. People would join, develop community, and it would have done very well (See LOTRO, which had many failings, but still turned out fine, from the developers point of view).
It has chosen to release in 2008. This is in time with AoC, Aion, Warhammer, and Wrath of the Lich King. It has to do well enough to stand out in that crowd. This game has to do well enough that people have a compelling reason to pick it up and play it over any of those. That's a tall order.
In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own.
This game is very different to the likes of WAR,AoC and aion and it will capture its own group of players,I dont think it needs to be better than WAR etc to be a success.
The way alot of people talk about WAR and AoC is almost like they honestly believe all other MMO`s will close down when they hit the shelves and that is not going to happen, even IF those games are what they promise to be(and I did say IF)there will still be room for other games and for sure there will be room for TCoS as it gives alot different mmo experience than the other releases due this year.People are attacted to TCoS because of other features like true skilled combat, gear only for looks,no big raids at end game to name a few,This game will be all about a players skill and the other games cant offer that.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"
Some more advertising and info would help this game alot but it looks they dont wanna rush anything. The game could get its own crowd but I dont see a release any time soon so I think thats why the lack of info and advertising. It would help to release before AoC/WaR/WotLK, the market needs a new decent MMO now.
If if had of released sooner It may of had a chance , sadly for Spellborn with Age of Conan and War out soon its going to have its work cut out.
Also riddiculous development time and lack of good info has'nt helped.Keeping people waiting and in the dark is never a good policy.
I was looking forward to this about a year ago but I feel the waiting has been a real drag on this one, good luck to it tho and I sincerly hope its good enough to hold its own.
I think this game stands a good chance once they start marketing it.
The game is almost totally different than AoC and War. Each game will have its players and as long as they don't aim for the uber subscription numbers, each should do well.
As for long development time, I would rather have them spend as much time as possible making sure the game is a clean as it can be for release. Players don't need anymore halfarsed pay-to-play betas.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

Here is what I know about the game:
Tagline "past, present, future" is what the was all about.
Past, present & future was a good idea but it looks like it didn't see the light of day. Basically it was supposed to be implemented with these quests that were suppose to take you back into the past before the world shattered - that would ultimately change the present/future.
I believe last time I checked in last with the community they decided to drop that whole thing. Ancestral quests they were called at the time.
Originally the game was going to be massive pvp, with 5 houses that were at war with each other and whoever's house had the most ancestral quests completed would get certain favours. It was a neat idea.
They have fired a few people who was worth a damn and banned alot of people who helped build the community up originally. At that time couple yrs back I dont even know if they listen to anyone who doesnt agree with their decision on how they want the game to be.
I know they have signed up some independant publishers for Germany, and some other European countries. Nothing for the US yet though... unless thats changed.
Khaeon studios was there original name, with which not a lot of good things has been said about, so pedigree is lacking.
This game will be in my opinion, like PotBS, made out to be something different but wont deliever to the masses or the niche market something that hasn't been done before better.
I was active in the first couple yrs where a lot of change when on, and a lot of internal problems existed. I couldn't say if this is still happening (phase 4 onwards) but I heard things I didnt like straight from the horses mouth.
I hope the game finds its feet and delivers on those idea's which initially lured me to the game.
The parts that take you back to the past are still in the game as far as I am aware,You will need to do certain things to trigger this event and it will change the future and on some parts will have an effect on the entire world.
I really dont see alot of resemblence to WoW other that they both have pve and pvp, though that can be said about most mmo`s,Infact they have been trying to stay out of the wow mould ie no big numbered end game raids, true skilled combat, gear just for looks,no time sink crafting to name but a few things,Also ofc there will be less content than WoW when it goes live,WoW has been out for 3 years,1 expansion and I think 12-14 patches with more content,So it is pretty much a given that WoW will have more content.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"
It will be a very big success in Europe I predict. However, if TCoS will market heavily once it's in beta, the North American market will be good I think.
Now, obiviously one can't tell for sure, but it seems to be a refreshng change of pace as far as MMO's are concerned. Not too different, but graphically refreshing and what I can tell from the music I have heard thus far, that will one of the strong points for the game.
I also think that if developers will use the tweaks, patches, and possible nerfs before they release, that will also help greatly keeping initial subscribers. Too many games have tried to make class changes after release only to see hundreds leave angry and dissatisfied. Now, obiviously we patch to improve game play not nerf to equalize class. Make those classes as balanced as you can during beta.
Good luck TCoS
All I want is the truth Just gimme some truth John Lennon
I'm pretty sure this game will do at least decently well. Maybe not as good as some other games, but I know I will at least be trying this game out.
Realistically, this game has a particular style of gameplay that soe people have voiced interest in and others have reacted...stupidly?...to. The best one can hope for as with any game is that fans, interests, and skeptics alike will all try it before casting their votes and that the game will float.
I personally find the concept a great idea, mostly because like even with the graphics. They didn't go for cutting edge, they went for their own style. The hidden advantages of doing such a thing too will be there, like making a system optimized game that doesn't have extra rendering code running that inevitably slows down the system, instead having that precious data flow available to do other things like make combat and interactivity more lively.
All in all, looks like this game has a good chance at becoming at least moderately popular.

However, after reading about the game over a few years they pucified the game to become a wow knockoff with less content then wow and less customization then they originally promised (rumour). They fired everyone who was worth a damn and banned alot of people who helped build the community up originally. Sine then I dont ever know if they listen to anyone who doesnt agree with their decision on how they want the game to be. All I know is prior to this they made some crap ass fps game called Alpha Black Zero something. (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/alphablackzero/index.html?tag=tabs;summary) Really horrible game. I know they have signed up some independant publishers for Germany, and some other European countries. Nothing for the US yet though... unless thats changed.
Khaeon studios was there original name, with which not a lot of good things has been said about, so pedigree is lacking, and they have had more developers hired and fired than a second hand Dart Board has "holes" in it. (part reason why hard to find US publisher, because of original foundations and background of company) Later on in Spellborns life they remained in a long period of stagnant development, with a lot of original idea gone. This game will be in my opinion, like PotBS, made out to be something different but wont deliever to the masses or the niche market something that hasn't been done before better. I could go on, but really, its not worth the flames from the people who think they really know what going on.
Most of your information is very outdated. And even wrong.
May i ask you to edit your post....... You don't see us trashing AoC, do you? Both games will be great games. But they can't really be compared with eachother...

I did edit it, I took out what I thought was over harsh, thanks for pointing that out, I wrote in a bit of a rush.
Basically the experience I had with the developers was unplesant. I hope issues of old are worked on to make a good game. Its not a trash its a prediction based on experiences, the companies past and how they treated their own staff and fans at an early stage in developement. I cant obviously post stuff so I can back up what I said, and this is only one side of the story, but still, thought I'd put my experiences across. Many of the original posts from 2 yrs back have been removed. Also I did say this was a while ago and hope its changed now for a better game.
Oh btw you called AoC a bugfest too citing German magazine which is outdated, if you read their latest hands on your find it different just like buffed.de did.
