I know it's a huge game and well known outside the US but inside it's really just now starting to build up momentum and you would be surprised at the number of even mmorpg gamers who haven't heard of it
I am a huge Warhammer IP fan and let's just say as it stands now I won't be playing the WAR game without a monstrous change in direction including everything from more PvP to changes in rules - a Chaos Chicken just isn't my cup of tea - so major disappointment right there for me
AoC I am now leaning towards buying and playing to at least try it - really don't know enough about it yet but worth a shot -
This game though , I saw a post about it on the FOH forums and checked it out - holy cow how did this fly under the radar until now - and that's the reaction I see from lots of forums from WoW to general guild forums -
Few of my friends who are in the same disappointment stage of WAR and shifting over to trying AoC idea had never heard of it either - after seeing some videos and reading about the game they are instantly looking forward to it more than any other one
Just curious as to if anyone else has seen this same thing , never heard of Aion , shown a few videos and checked out the details of the game and suddenly thoughts of other games get pushed back -
Really looking forward to this one now myself

alot of people are just ignoring this game...they just see it as another asian mmorpg ( grid-fest) its really lack of knowlege and a lack of people wanting to know....
iv known about this game for a while now...over a year or so...i found out about it by acident...i needed an angel picture for art and came across a picture from aion ...im extremly excited over this game...i was like you...WAR was my top choice...but after 3 years of following it...i got board..and now its between this and AOC
Well, what i've noticed is that whoever does a bit of research into the game stops being critic, and a huge percentage of them starts looking foward to it, and that is because it's hella hard to find a flaw in the game design we know about and cause the videos (dang stage 6 :<) already look fine tuned and funny.
Im sure that whenever the new content (abyss) is released and whenever koreans start posting videos about the interaction there, and some baller flying combat, people will start seeing this as the brilliant game this can get to be.
Good to see I wasn't the only one with this situation and reaction -
Also Hous I'm picking up the third season of DN today (saw your avatar ) - the wife gets sick of my anime at times but really enjoying this one - in fact one of my favorites since Berserk - (I still rewatch it in its entirely often and never have found another series close to it yet )
lol lukily my gf likes anime em ya dn is a fantastic anime i loved the whole series and all 12 mangas and i loved both live action movies...i cant wate to see the 3rd movie ( movie is about L) it also had a great ending i didnt expect it
I've known about it for a while, but have mostly ignored it. Why? Glad you asked. (even if you didn't)
First, its made by NCSoft, and over the years, I've not cared for their game designs (specifically L1 & L2). Yes, I know, this game is nothing like those games. I'll believe it when I see it, so I guess I'll have to wait for an open beta.
Second, Information is actually sort of hard to come by. I asked the other day for some good websites, and was given two. I visited them both, and while they might have lots of videos out there (I never watch videos btw) there's not a ton of information that I can find about the various abilities of each class. (heck, it was hard for me to find out what the classes were). Strangely enough, when I read through the class list, all I kept thinking was, gee, these seem like the same names as in L2. (they're similar for sure)
I'm keeping my eye on the game, but not really anticipating it.

So basically you want to PvP but not that much and you want to be able to gank? I'm missing some sense making logic here. The only way to turn into a Chaos chicken is to venture into Lower Level Tiers PvE zones of the Enemy & try to attack them or the lower Tier'd RvR zones period (you can go to your own as long as its not the low level rvr areas). The game from the beginning has been based on RvR and being upfront about its anti gank / griefing policies. Not sure where your problem is unless your an old world PKer who got their jolies from killing the helpless.
As for Aion I've just never been a fan of NCSofts MMOs. The game sounds interesting in its design but its just an all together turn off with its visual art style to me (its pretty I just don't care for games that use that art style). I guess my true opinion on if the game is going to suck or not will come down to better non fan related sources of information. If I have to dig up the basics on a Fan Site then the game isn't ready for me to really base any hype or opinion on.
I'm taking a stabbing guess here since you can't reach an official site for it other than NC Soft's generic webpage and a teaser website that the game is probably really far from release.

So basically , you are the type who generalizes about anyone who looks truly open PvP without handholding rules , good one
Yes I think a level 13 should be able to attack a level 12 and a 24 a level 23 and so on - I think handholding rules are abused more than more open ones and people like to use the ganking excuse because they prefer it safe
And finally even if there had to be handholding rules for your type they could have gone a different route then a "chaos chicken" - I dont like the idea and think its pretty stupid - and shockingly there are lots of others even still firm fans of the game who hate the idea also
Yes I am looking more forward to this game than WAR now , and as someone who has spend lots of money over the decades on Warhammer Fantasy and 40K and is a mmorpg gamer , I dont blindly follow any devs or ideas and can call something stupid even if I love the IP , and as it stands now I find Warhammer being a cheap WoW knock off that wont even have its PvP (and thats pretty bad)
ganking (for the newbies is when people do 1v8s vrs you... i said this just cuz there is probly a 12 year old asking "whats ganking??? is it sexually oriented???") is my books is perfectly legal... i prefer low number parties (2-4 ppl) then like 8+ cuz this is just to easy... 2-4v8+ is fun
and 1v1s a fine to... but if your in a open pk zone then DONT COMPLAIN ABOUT GANKING... i hate playing Call of Duty 4 or another game and ppl complain about 1v2+... its like why do you play a TEAM game then complain about TEAMwok... its hypecritcal..... o and then they yell "ZOMG PWNTED" when they do a 1v2
o and back to subject... i personal think this will be the halo killer!!! erm i mean the next "sleeper" hit mmorpg
It could be a sleeper hit.
But its hard to tell, to many MMO's comming out around this year, AoC, WaR, Aion
As for me im going to try them all and decide for myself, can only aford one.
An excellent point - for me I think I have found having two mmorpg's is a nice thing simply because going back and forth between two seems to ease any long stretches in one , but at launch I usually go all out into one ,
The point about multiple ones coming out within a year is a good one though and may thin out all of them more than if they were the one major one to launch that year - such as LotRO had that help with little real competition all of 2007 from new mmorpg's
enough said ...... indeed it proves that you are a nublet that just goes for the images and if you dont like it just bother to read "sigh" why cant i have all the gameknowledge by just looking at (its sarcasm btw, just wanna tell you that, cause i dont have an image of that).... well that my opinion bout you post.

waiting for new goodie ^^

Last sentence i couldnt agree with more..ill say nothing else other than Aion does look promising
I doubt it. Its just an other Asian MMO. I'm no fan of the cliche over-decorative art style and characters that look like pin-up models, an neither are many other Westeners.

Another Asian MMO with ~200M $ budget
Another Asian MMO with ~150 developers
Another Asian MMO with ~2.000.000 customers actually around the world in their franchises, and with over ~4.000.000 customers in their published games.
Cliche over-decorative art style which isn't liked in the west, like Final Fantasy series, that were best sellers in all of their releases, and which graphics were rated by western videogames magazines with a 10, normally.
Another one, yo.

Yes, it may have a huge budget and a huge development team, but you can not argue the visual style is not akin to FF or Lineage. I did not imply all 'Westeners' dislike the Asian design style, what I meant to put forward is that the cliche art design will discourage a large portion of us from buying the game.Let's face it, no Asian-style MMO has been as big of a success in the western market as on its home turf, and from the look of things Aion will be an other Lineage-like grindfest.

From the look of things Aion will be another Lineage-Like grindfest?Mind pointing me to ANY evidence that makes you think so?
The visual style of Aion is already being praised by experts, art style being really subjective, I'd rather take it from someone who won't state a game is a grind fest with no other argument than prejudices, not akin to FF or L2? please.

Watch this and tell me again it's another grindfest : http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=g-NrbzobRQE
You are all wrong about WAR. You should know better than to make an opinion and conclusion about a game you haven't even tried yet. And frankly, the "wow-clone" is old, silly, and plain stupid.
Anyhoo, Aion looks good, but I doubt that it will be anything but an asian grindfest. But hey, I will try and see for myself, unlike some people here.
The "wow-clone" is old, silly, and plain stupid just like saying it will be another asian grindfest.
Mind pointing me to ANY evidence that makes you think so?

I don't have any real evidence, as I have no gameplay experience myself, but I can point you to the sources that made me reach this conclusion. Please remember that this is nothing more than my personal opinion fo the game, and I do not intend to proclaim it as anything more:
1. NC Soft, no link required. No publisher is more synonymous with 'grindfest'.
2. http://www.aionsource.com/forum/general-discussion/2659-experiance-loss-death.html
Not confirmed, but there will most probably be an experience loss on death.
3. http://www.aionsource.com/forum/general-discussion/3323-ultimate-aion-faq.html
Aion FAQ on an Aion fansite, seems like the game is going for a TR with wings approach, which I don't find very compelling.
4. From aion-online.net:
"The players that experiance the world of Aion Online are called 'Daeva', who are actually a community of Demigods. Their Demigod life; born from mortals, is a beautiful angelic divinity in itself but surrounded by a extremely delicate mortality, which can be broken in a instant."
I don't get it, is this supposed to be appealing? I find stuff like this distasteful. (Again a matter of opinion)
5. The screenshots. The UI looks very similar to Lineage, and they are definitely not getting everything out of Cry Engine. Also I do not like the art-style.
The visual style is undeniably generic Asian 'Manganesque', just look at the screenshots. Well endowed women with huge eyes, with lean male characters that look like androgynous male models. This I do not find appealing at all. Then again, I never liked Manga or Anime either, like I stated before this is a matter of opinion.
I've viewed this before, and my opinion still stands. This nothing but PR, a ten minute video will not convince me of how the eventual gameplay will be like.

I see your point and totally respect it, like you said it's a matter of opinion about the visual style and this has nothing to do with the gameplay.

This isn't PR, video like that are upload by korean beta testers because there isn't strict NDA.

You set a precedent from their unique franchise which last game was released 4 years ago, back when grinding was the shit, remember WoW released after L2, and before Wow no real game tried to do a casual formula.
2. http://www.aionsource.com/forum/general-discussion/2659-experiance-loss-death.html
Not confirmed, but there will most probably be an experience loss on death.
I can tell you already there will be death penalty with experience loss, but you'll be able to recover most of the lost experience with money, then again, DP has nothing to do with grinding but with death fear, super mario had a harsh death penalty, not a mmorpg.

I dont see how can you find stuff like that distasteful, considering how that's just a minimum part of the lore, you know, diagonal reading isn't really good.

Now I can see some differences, the influence of Asian art is undeniable, so is the mixure of influences, with European ones such as victorian, it's not a cowgirl, but I don't see how "Western" people could say those graphics are bad done tbh.
