Liked it, loved it, but now its time to say bye

ZerlyZerly Member Posts: 35

Only been playing around 3 weeks, but its sadly time to say bye to TR. Why?

I simply got bored.

When I first started playing, I really enjoyed the combat..and my first couple of Control Point base defense events were simply superb. Tension, fast combat...pressure...great stuff.

I was unfortunate enough to get a powerful machine gun, and its ruined the game for me. All I have to do is run and hold the left mouse button. No skill toggling, no looking for cover, no tactical approach. Just leap in and press the left mouse button over and over.

Im actually quite sad, I wanted to like this game..and had some great moments with it. But it doesnt add up to $15 a month.

Bye TR, I hardly knew you :(

this is the problem with this game there is zero replayabilty and the questing is a grind the whole system is really good till you hit around lvl 17 then you start becomming board with it then after lvl 30 it becomes a drag then when you hit lvl 50 theres nothing to do at all plus theres major imbalances in the game with professions that are greatly over powered (spys) plus the community isnt the greatest general chat looks like a kindergarten lunch room in reform school this game had so much potential but i guess they hired cheap devs cause they dont seem to know how to make a good game

  • dsebutchrdsebutchr Member Posts: 245

    I'm assuming you made 50.

If not your being silly, you have no concept of what the game has to offer since you haven't seen it all.

If i spend the money on a normal machine gun at level 5 the things i'm facing drop like flies.

They do at 15 if you have a really nice gun, which you said you did.  They eat your face at 30+

You haven't played enough.  But that's your choice.

    Later tater.

  • ZerlyZerly Member Posts: 35

No Im not being silly. I've heard the arguement of "it gets better and more challening later"

Im a slow leveller, and dont want to pay another month(s) sub fees to get to the bits I want to play now. The bits being tactical combat that is challening.

The fact is that at the moment, everytime I log in for the short to midterm my entire gameplay experience involves holding down the left mouse button to attack.

It shouldnt take getting to level 30+ to escape that.

The carrots come way too late in this game, its bad game design.

That said, I really did have some fun moments..its not a horrible game, its just needed more. Well for me anyway.

it doesnt i am a lvl 50 and ive been in the game since beta they never listened to us as far as game development goes and they truely missed the boat on this game

  • _Shadowmage_Shadowmage Member Posts: 1,459

You dont have to wait until lvl 30+ to get a challenge as the weapons become fairly ineffectual after 5 levels which is why you upgrade weapons / armor every 5 levels.

So assuming you are lvl 16 - by the time you hit 21 your overpowered machinegun wont be making the grade.

Also in the patch Tuesday - shield drones once again reflect damage. So facing a group under a shield drone will be a challenge. Unless you run right in the middle and cut loose.

If you want more challenge immediately - hang up the machine gun and use pistol, rifle, shotgun or even lightning.

If you are only in the low levels - try playing a specialist - always more challenging than a soldier as you dont get the big area of effect weapons.

If you arent prepared to change play style temporarily, or change class then yes you are out of challenges until you out level your weapon.

In may not be fun at 50 - but are you really saying you had no fun at all between 15 and 50?

I am lvl 37 with an exo having a great time in pools.

As for the developers not listening - sheesh what an over generalization.
    - Military Surplus
    - Portable waypoints
    - PAU's in development
    - Hybrids
    - Death Penalties
    - Hideable helmets
    - shield extender for engineers
    - attributes having more effect
    - cloning doing a full respec of skills / attributes

All came from requests made in beta.

They didnt listen to things like
    - release date pushing back
    - dual wielding pistols
    - people whining to put it back to the uber god mode pre july.

Ya know i hate to say it, but i too am taking my leave of TR. I've been there, like many, since beta, and have just reached a point that this game is not the MMO experience that i am willing to pay $15 a month for. I know it has been out only a short time, and i hope that it doesnt die. I hope that i come back and go "Whoa the fixed it and this games a rocking."  Till then i must go off in search of something with more depth, and more polish. Or hopre that i can get into some of the next gen MMO's betas.

I am the last of a dying breed

Sorry to see you leave due to YOUR playstyle.

Also sorry to see that we still have people that grab that UBER weapon and all they seem willing ot do is use that, afcourse any game might become broring if gamers really would play that way. You should know or atleast understand that TR is a game where you can find your own challenge, no one is telling you to only use that great gun, you have more you are able to use to be succesfull. You see in each and every MMO there is a crowed who only wants to use hte UBER stuff and of all games it's mostly those who stop playing due to bordom, but unfortuinaly all we keep seeing is those people blaming the game but not once do we see people saying that they know it's beccause of their playstyle.

Look i'm not saying you NEED to like TR as each and every person is different, but when i see someone complain which is the  result of that persons playstyle i often react, trying to explain my point of view.

Each and every MMO i played was for about 50% of it's lvl's EASY not one was what i would call difficult, but in each of those MMO's i always found my own challenge, and thats not following the sheep metiod but playing HOW I WANT TO PLAY IT and how i feel the game can be challenging, meaning you will not see me use onew type of gun or even one type of skills, i always use all the skills i have, some are weak some are strong, but atleast when using them all the game will be challenging to me, this goes for all MMO's i played, i never needed that UBER stuff as i saw each person using such things always got bored of not having a challenge by the game....again this goes for each and every MMO i have played/tried/tested and always saw those speaking about only using one type of UBER weapon to get bored. My own experiance and who i have met, this doesn't REALLY mean each and every person, but just those i met or saw writting on forums.

Kinda the reason why i sometimes ask or say that certain people should really try and reconsider their playstyle.

I am going to stop subscribing as well, as soon as mine is up. I have been in since beta as well (Orion) and have multiple characters (Guard, Gren, Engineer - levels 35-32 respectively) and have become bored.

Even with yesterday's AI update to make the fights more interesting the game has become a real snoozer. And the idea of grinding to 50 - well I'd rather not have to "experience" that.

And its no secret the lack of content at the level cap, hell the lack of content is rampant at 35. Very grind oriented - easy to run out of quests and even when you dont the repition is shameless at level 33+. The quests, the NPC models, the areas, the whole game is recycled material.

And I disagree the adds to the game since its come out have really added a lot. Military Surplus just inst that cool with the amount of non-bound items. And the removal of all really good items from quests was a bummer. And the lack of PAUs at this stage is unforgivable IMO.. there are a lot of unkepy promises and PAUs should be in the game already...heck they are just now considering an in game mail system, for crying out loud.

game needs A LOT more original content, needs to be A LOT more expansive, and I for one hate the clan only PVP.......come on, get a real PVP system.

It did have tons of potential and agree the first 25 levels were a riot....I got my money's worth, but me and the game have reached a point of reciprocity and it will be ending here.

Ah I'd say in the 80's I was a huge Richard Garriott fanboi.  I mean my Commodore 64.. most any Origin System Inc game.. was heaven.  Loved the Ultimas.

I like TR.  However, I'll admit I canceled my account as well.  Pretty much I'd love to come back but I won't more to the game.  I'm not gonna trash the game or call it boring.  It has an incredible foundation.. but it needs work.. mostly things added and class abilities fixed/balanced.

I really loved my Injector Gun.. to me that was just the coolest thing.  Well I should say guns since I carried four different kinds.  Or something like that lol.  I was into the Exo myself.

After I got to what we'd call "end game" I level'd up an alt with a machine gun.  I personally found that to be funny as hell.

Honestly if you weren't having to switch to a shot gun or a rifle in some places.. I dunno what to say.  Or the nerfed the heck out of squids because when I was playing shooting them with a chain gun woulda been suicide.

Dunno but anyway it was fun when I played.  Jump down a hill, tumble roll and come up with chain gun blasting.

I guess in the end I was bored.. but it was mostly because I like to craft.  Right now TR really doesn't have a crafting system... or one that interests me at least.

Like I said if the game gets additions that appeal to me I'd go back np.  Told them that as much as I could on the exit poll as well.

Just jumping to this point... i assume you mean FFA PvP then? Or at least the option to make you an "open target" for those who are toggled the same as you?

So basically you're saying if someone makes a crappy imbalanced game, people should nerf themselves and make their characters less strong so that it's not so easy?  And more, you're angry because people won't do this like you?

Actually, your post just seemed angry. Hate to break it to you...

I agree with this person though, noone should have to not use something because it is easy mode. Easy mode just shouldn't be coded into the game. End of story.

Do agree the game could be allot more challeging from the get go..........afcourse. And the post might have sounded that way to some, but it wasn't meant agree at all. Pointing out things are not always related to people being agree....well atleast for me it doesn't, else 90% of the forums posters might be seen as being agree.

This is probably one of the most depressing posts I have read on these forums. The game doesnt get automatically easy because you have a good machine gun. Also you dont stop playing a game because your doing really good at it.

Thats like saying o so Tiger Woods is amazing at Golf and always wins, but hes going to stop playing the game cause of how easy it is.

Obviously said OP was not having fun to begin with,  he saw the game was the flavor of the week and bought it on a whim.

It makes no sense to me why people constantly like to make up reasons why this game is so bad. I hear the same things over and over again.

"OMG patch 1.4 made the game too hard"

I noticed no difference except at first I was being defeated a bit too quickly because I wasnt using enough cover or crouching.

to answer some of the thing you posted before the game was a blast,  Up till lvl 30 then most of the content starts drying out. There is a lot more grinding rather then questing then . Most of the other things they either were supposed to be in game when it launched , or were stuff that they are promising which i am taking with a grain of salt. As the only thing the devs seem to know how to do so far is nerf things.  Medic has been nerfed and now they are doing spy, who knows what will get nerfed next.  Content for every thing they add they break something else the latest with all the video glitches. Or they just remove stuff like purple items from quests and the random dropping in the wild , yes they still drop from striders but they nerfed them in howling mar. Theres only one spot where they continunisly spawn and thats always camped. I really wish they would wake up and start making positive changes to the game. im glad you enjoy it and think its fine but look around at all the posts,  there are a lot of unhappy people with this game and its not just this site, even the fan boy sites are full of people screaming for positive changes. They seem to be only partialy listining and making small changes like the / sit emote the game is falling apart but now i can /sit . What needs to be done is they need to open an offical forum and talk to the players if they dont this game isnt gonna last long with the rate of loss its taking

Since were on the subject of your backround, I would like to know how many MMO's you have played.

Ive been through Beta and launch of many many mmo's (SWG, WoW, CoH to name my main ones)

There is always going to be people saying "This is nerfed that is nerfed, I hate this I hate that"

Im not saying they are wrong, some times they are right, In SWG (and this has nothing to do with NGE, Im purposily leaving that out of the conversation because it will interfer with any other point anyone on here trys to make.)  People screamed nerf about pistoleer and rifleman for the longest time, I was both of those, and I never noticed a thing.

Same thing with world of warcraft, I was a paladin, and while I do agree they made it more diffcult for me to get the "quick saves" I was used to, it didnt destroy my gaming experiance.

There is always going to be two camps of people with mmo's

    People who bitch,

and people who go with it.

I can understand that, but understand i'm playing very casual, my highest character is lvl 33 (but full log with quest's) There is a lot more grinding rather then questing then. Again i understand, so far not with me, which doesn't mean it's like that for everyone, i truly understand that for some it might dry out some due to some that might have more playtime to spend ingame Most of the other things they either were supposed to be in game when it launched, or were stuff that they are promising which i am taking with a grain of salt. As the only thing the devs seem to know how to do so far is nerf things.  Medic has been nerfed and now they are doing spy, who knows what will get nerfed next. I understand many have problems with this, i don't and never have except pre-cu SWG going into the NGE which made me leave the game at the time, to me it sort of give a sence of more realism to how i want to play MMO's, if everything would be perfectly balacned ALL the time games will lose their challenge regardless how good the rest of hte game is. I also NOT saying i do not want any balance cause i want basic balance afcouse, but that NERF never hurt me but made it fun to sometimes addept in new way's. Again this is my personal viewpoint and not meant to be some sort of rule for others, it's just how i play/am. Content for every thing they add they break something else the latest with all the video glitches. sucks for those it is happening for, sorry again no experaince with those things, afcourse i do/did encounter certain bugs, but it hasn't broken my gameplay ...so far.......Or they just remove stuff like purple items from quests and the random dropping in the wild , yes they still drop from striders but they nerfed them in howling mar. Theres only one spot where they continunisly spawn and thats always camped. I really wish they would wake up and start making positive changes to the game. im glad you enjoy it and think its fine but look around at all the posts,  TR has LOTS and LOTS of things that could be greatly improved, i never said it hasn't i'm fully aware of many flaws with the game, but sometimes i just wonder particulair on this forum if why there are more unhappy people playing otr trying this genre then you see people enjoying games, as the last few years people who enjoy games began to be insulted or named fanboy's, where i use to think that forums where to share your experiance, and well complaining i often and always use the more proper channels to make sure my problem will be adressed, if i knew devs would often visit and post on mmorpg.com at hte TR section you would get a very differnt post then what you ee me do at this public section. Again thats just me personal opinion so when i see people at forums complain about a game where i know DEVS respond/reply/read them i'm more then happy to see/write constructive feedback.there are a lot of unhappy people with this game and its not just this site, even the fan boy sites are full of people screaming for positive changes. Me too want more positive changes to the game don't get me wrong. They seem to be only partialy listining and making small changes like the / sit emote the game is falling apart but now i can /sit . What needs to be done is they need to open an offical forum and talk to the players if they dont this game isnt gonna last long with the rate of loss its taking. I understand for some official forums would be good, but i also feel that having htem not could make people find their more likeminded community to communicate at places DEVS do visit and reply/respond/post.
So don't get me wrong TR could really improve allot, but when i see people say it's all pew pew or only use of one weapon, i react, as that what we do on forums ...right?

I have played quite a few MMO's from SWG  ( Pre CU till pub 6 of NGE)  AO ,Ryzom, Sotnw etc.

and have never really seen a profession nerfed as bad as they have done with TR

would you consider a profession working that can regularly be out damaged by another player 10 lvls below him or even for that matter be out damaged by a npc of the same lvl the game has only been out 4 months and has already seen a sweeping change to the combat system

all im am saying if you like it good but your in the minority and unless NC soft starts making some positive changes there isnt going to be a game soon remen=mber you have quite a few blockbuster mmos due to come out this year and if they hope to compete they are going to need to keep coustomers happy

  • bstuartbstuart Member UncommonPosts: 135

one of the problems is if people are happy with the game they arent bitching about it and MMORPG.COM seems to be the mecca for disgruntled players

despite what my post may sound like i do like the game and play it every day its just most of

the time theres nothing to do anymore i hope they wake up and make the game better for everybody

problem is with the forums if they arent being run by the company then what good are they theres one that devs talk on that i cant post to ( because me and the owner had problems with each other in another game) thats kind of silly now i cant comment on a product i pay for because theres no coustomer communication and i know that posting here really doesnt do much because they dont look here

the only using one weapon thing is a bit silly as well we all play the game and know that if your only using one weapon you are pretty much gonna get your ass handed to you lol

Still waiting for a proper pvp game, for me TR isn't that game as it was meant a pve game with pvp feature, but again due to devs listing they are changing the game for those who greatly enjoy pvp, i say they shouldn't and should focus more at the core of the game, butlike you said i'm probelby in the minority, tho i know i am not kinda been a game for along time now.
would you consider a profession working that can regularly be out damaged by another player 10 lvls below him or even for that matter be out damaged by a npc of the same lvl the game has only been out 4 months and has already seen a sweeping change to the combat system. Afcourse that should not happen, so if it does afcourse it sucks
all im am saying if you like it good but your in the minority and unless NC soft starts making some positive changes there isnt going to be a game soon remen=mber you have quite a few blockbuster mmos due to come out this year and if they hope to compete they are going to need to keep coustomers happy Like i said before i'm all for positive changes.

    Night.......

I played this game in beta and still playing it . I have 1 of every class and a lev 46 guardian . and all classes seem pretty balanced .  each class does somthings well  and all have there weakness.  People just dont like to have to adapt . Just like to cry about any changes they make.  1 patch people cry they made the game to tough , next patch they made the game to easy. some people  will just never be happy.   it is true that once you hit 40+(  some people say 30  i dont see it , they did just add 17+ mid 30 missions)  you can run out of stuff to do , but the game is still pretty new. It is that way in every game .

The OP said somthing about the MG being  to easy . , and I agree with the person that said if it is to easy then you should use somthing different . Beacuse  some people are just better gamers then others  . So there  may  be somone who needs a better weapon then  somone else to make the game fun for them and not to hard.
